The governor of California has called for social isolation of those who are 65 and older. Bars and wineries must also close. Public schools and libraries in my city are also closed. What is happening in your area now?

Where I usually live in Bavaria, a state of emergency has been declared. Schools are shut until the Easter break, and non-essential businesses are being asked to close. People are being told to stay home, except for medical appointments and grocery shopping - all other shopping is being discouraged. Museums, galleries and swimming pools are all closed.
I am currently in Victoria, Australia. Again, a state of emergency has been declared, but schools are still open, except where there has been a confirmed case in the school. Museums shut, public gatherings of over 500 people banned, people being asked to restrict social contacts.

Michigan has closed casinos and some schools are extending spring break but they haven't taken drastic steps yet.

Also in California not much open here. Grocery stores have limited their hours. Our mall also just reduced hours but a lot of stores are closed anyways. Gyms still open. Movie theaters and restaurants still open but supposed to self distance at both. Encouraging take out.
Most city things are closed but parks still open and our mayor suggested having a bbq snd inviting the neighbors lol. Also reminded people that we have 42 parks while the kids are out of school. Really. Senior center closed, library closed and most other things are closed. Schools closed.

I am in Dubai:
School has been out for a week (they started really preparing for distance learning the week before the kids were out of school). My 6 year old came home on the last day with a school issued iPad and packet of about an inch of papers to begin distance learning in 1 week. My 9th grader has a laptop (we are required to supply since 6th grade) and will begin distance learning in 1 week also.
Nurseries (daycare) has been closed since March 1.
The gyms, theaters, parks, pools, and even Dubai Mall just closed yesterday. The kids swimming, gymnastics and tennis lessons are on hold.
I went to the grocery store yesterday. The shelves weren’t as full but nothing was sold out except hand sanitizer (has been sold out for a week)
They have been doing thermal scans at the airport on everyone for about 2 weeks. Lots of flight restrictions and visa restrictions
They encouraged all residents not to travel unless it was an emergency for about 2 weeks now
Testing and treatment of coronavirus will be free. No insurance needed. Anyone with symptoms is being tested and admitted to the hospital (does not have to be severe) then anyone that had contact with that person is in quarantine at home for 2 weeks
Work from home has begun if possible.

Schools are on spring break Libraries / rec centres still open Restaurants still open Stores starting to reduce hours Citizens in uproar wanting Cnd border protected further with closures and extra screening at airports for incoming citizens. Hospitals preparing - expecting the coming week to be difficult. I am trying to convince my parents to stay in - the gov’t has not yet pushed for limiting social contact beyond the 250 number. (Not that my parents have ‘heard’ ) Store shelves are bare In our city the weather is lovely. Getting out is nice.

In PA, all k-12 schools closed for 10 days (will probably be much longer), universities are closed and doing online learning, libraries closed, Pittsburgh zoo closed. Probably more closings will come.
Thinking about all the healthcare workers and wanted to thank all of them for what they do! Thankful for the grocery store workers that are so busy stocking the empty shelves and keeping things going. We have encountered friendly and helpful people when we have had to go out to buy food.

MGM Resorts in Las Vegas are closing all operations! This is huge! Hundreds of thousands of employees.
All K-12 schools closed (finally). CCSD (Las Vegas) schools out until April 13th.
We will get through this! Be aggressive! Let's look back on this and know we did everything we could!

Here in central Illinois, the governor just declared that all restaurants and bars will close to eat in diners effective tomorrow. Only drive thru and take out is permitted from restaurants.
Our park districts and all of their programming have been shut down this weekend.
Grocery stores are cutting back hours in an attempt to restock empty shelves.
Our public and private K-12 schools are closed. No word on how long of a duration yet. Everyone is still scrambling. Most colleges have sent their kids home, some with plans to resume in April, some have declared all instruction will be online to the end of the semester.
I teach at a community college with strong health profession programs. Late last week, it was announced that labs, studio work, and health profession practicals would continue as usual, while all lectures would go to online format after our spring break which is this week. Tonight, after our first confirmed case of Covid-19 in the community, our college president eliminated all on campus activities, probably until the end of our spring semester. We have an extra week of spring break to prepare all of our materials for online instruction.
This shit is starting to get really real, really fast. I hope people start paying attention.

I remember hearing of a bio-med conference/event in Boston, thinking one of those people ended up in Washington DC, and came up positive and probably to 2 people from Boston at the below party had also attended the event in Boston before coming to NJ. A Rutgers University biomedical engineering professor was exposed to the virus at “a non-Rutgers location” in late February and is currently self-isolating. The professor’s test came back Saturday night, Calcado wrote. ** Rutgers spokeswoman Dory Devlin confirmed that the professor attended a private party in Princeton on Feb. 29, where 14 residents were later asked to self-isolate following exposure to the virus. Two people from the Boston area were also at the event and tested positive after returning home, Princeton health officials previously said. Following the professor’s exposure, but before he began self-isolating, he was in contact with a number of people at Rutgers, Calcado said. Those people have been identified, notified and asked to self-isolate. Calcado said the professor has “the full support” of the university and its Occupational Health Department. *** www.nj.com/coronavirus/2020/03/breaking-rutgers-has-its-first-covid-19-case-heres-what-we-know.htmlWay too much traveling....................

I wish the rest of the state would follow this. I think it is now just a matter of time. I agree but gyms are really trying to get our youth to visit while out of school. Movies and malls the same thing. At this point just rip the bandaid already. If there are amusement parks not closed they need to close. Bowling alleys, arcades etc. I’m just hoping we see a drop in numbers and flattening of the curve in the next few weeks.

Small town (15K) outside of San Antonio Texas.
* schools closed for an additional week past spring break * canceled a lot of city sponsored events and revoked special permits for other events for 2 or 3 weeks * our only grocery store HEB had to reduce and modify its hours in order to restock
That’s all. Not a lot of impact that I’ve seen so far. The website says they follow CDC recommendations so I expect it will change for at least the gatherings over 50 people.
San Antonio, Texas
* postponed Fiesta which is our Mardi Gras, about 2.5 million visitor * lots of cancellations of big public events up to and including major concerts * closed Fiesta Texas (a Six Flags park) * not familiar with school closings but I think 2 weeks is common, to include spring break * Is one of several cities hosting the quarantine areas so I’m sure there must be other items but I’m not familiar.

Our county is supposed to be closed to all non essential businesses. So only grocery, gas stations, pharmacies and medical facilities are to be opened. So many businesses have gone on facebook and said they were not closing. DH had to run out to grab milk this morning and he said the roads are packed and no one is listening and staying home. Many businesses are saying business as usual despite the government mandate.

TRi state area, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey, all bars and restaurants, no indinning, delivery, takeout, drive up only. Bars not serving food, closed. Casinos closed . No gatherings+, no none!!
NY bars, wineries allowed to do take out.
New Jersey also going to have a curfew of 8pm starting tonight. Only essential personnel on the roads, not sure about other people getting to and from work... So much for people who work to go to the store later at night, or for just moms/dads to go after the other gets home. You know, like a break from the kids.....
NJ DMV offices closed for two weeks. Anything scheduled to expire by May 1st has a TWO month extension. Many thing can still be processed online.

Closed: Schools Public libraries Private and public museums Sports arenas Private theaters for plays and concerts
Open: Everything else including the county courthouse.
It amazes me how the town one of my girls lives in - which is mostly retirees -- is still holding and heavily advertising their constant barrage of public activities, St. Patrick's pub events, etc.

What is happening in your area now? Not enough. I don't think much has been announced for Phoenix / Arizona except for school closures to extend till the end of March. My Weight Watchers meetings have been switched to cyber-meetings, but that was the decision of the company. As of the weekend, one of the large movie theater chains was still open, but changing some procedures. I haven't heard of any official state-level announcements about anything in AZ. eta: good point someone upthread posted- the Frys (Kroger) grocery stores in my town have changed their hours from 24-hours open to being closed overnight, I'm assuming to allow them to clean/sanitize, and to restock the shelves. (oh, and they're hiring, if anyone needs a job!)

South Bay Area. It has been raining for 3 days and should continue for the next 2 or 3 which is good. I went grocery shopping again at 7:30 am and the place was full of people. I brought my 17 with me because I am exhausted from food shopping and I wanted him to see the store. Meat, eggs, bread all gone. My husband did go to work today but I'm guessing that will end real soon. Only 9 people were there on Friday.
