Boy, your state must be near the last one to do so.

Boy, your state must be near the last one to do so. Most of Texas hasn’t cancelled, as far as around fort Hood still set to go back Monday along with my two college girls who are at CTC dorms. We already went and moved them out, not waiting for the “official” word. Proactive rather than reactive is my motto right now.

To close for the rest of the year? I think it's a given that any schools shut down are finished for the school year, whether there's been an official announcement stating as much or not. I'm in Colorado and the teachers have one week off and one week of Spring Break. Most of them think they will go back sometime before the end of the year. I think perceptions of what is/will happen definitely depend on where you live. As of last Thursday, the teachers were pretty much business as usual until that afternoon.

When I see these posts that say "closed for the rest of the year" I think OMG - that's because our school year runs from Feb-December! What month do your schools normally close for Summer?

We didn’t know until 10 o’clock Thursday night that Friday was it for us. I will be incredibly sad if we don’t get some more time together. This has been one of my favorite batches of students, I will miss them next year and want more time!!

I think it's a given that any schools shut down are finished for the school year, whether there's been an official announcement stating as much or not. they are hoping it will only be a couple of weeks. We need state permission to shut down completely and it really messes with high school credit and grades

I suspect, in most cases, this may be the reality. BUT, few are saying that out loud (gov of Ohio is one exception) and so far, states are closing for stated amounts of time and "hoping" to go back. I think most districts are planning as if it will be later than stated or not at all. I know my state (Illinois) is already addressing the issue of state testing that will be missed. My district's last day was supposed to be May 22nd, and then my retirement would begin on the 23rd. I will be surprised if we are able to go back this school year.

Pretty much all of DFW is shut down. Dallas ISD is on spring break this week but they already announced they are closed indefinitely. That sparked a whole bunch of districts around including mine to close even further. For now we are out until April 6th and will re-evaluate before then.

Washington State and Oregon close in June. Ack! You get January off, that's it? Depending on whether the students are in primary or high school they finish early or late December and go back late January/early Feb. Private schools may finish a bit earlier/start later.
We have 4 terms so they also get 2 weeks break around Easter, June and September. It is nice to have it broken up a bit with around 10 weeks in each term before 2 weeks off.

I think it’s probable here (even though the schools go through mid-June, so the current shut down is only half the remainder of the year), but I am telling you, my husband was talking to his brother this AM who lives in suburban Philadelphia, and he seems pretty darn sure they are reopening in two weeks. Which I definitely do not take it to mean that they are, but it sounds like the messaging from the district is that they have no intention to close for the rest of the year.

Will you need to "go back" in the fall for 10 weeks to be eligible, or will you be able to retire as you plan? Or do you even have any idea yet?!?

Cities in Texas have canceled. Can't speak for the outlying areas. foe the year? Yes. Dallas ISD is closed “indefinitely.” The Texas Education Agency has cancelled this year’s standardized testing (STAAR) and told superintendents to prepare to close for the rest of the school year.

I will continue to be paid through the end of July, as we are paid on a 12-month schedule. Today through the 30th are considered Acts of God days and we don’t have to make them up. I don’t know what the rest would be considered if we shift to only e-learning. I haven’t heard anything yet about what happens if we don’t get in a full year of days for retirement purposes, which is actually a little less than the required number of days for students. I may have to email the retirement system (they have closed their offices and are only doing phone appointments instead of in-person) and see what they say.

So far, the Phoenix area elementary & high schools are only closed until the end of March or beginning of April, I think. And we haven't even seen an (official) increase in the # of cases here, yet.

We need state permission to shut down completely and it really messes with high school credit and grades This is a portion of the letter from my daughter's high school principal to the parents and student body. This is the largest high school in our state with approximately 3,500 students. Our governor (Nevada) cancelled all K-12 schools through April 6th. I applaud the principal's words. "Like many of you, we also have the same questions regarding the normal things we would be doing in March. This is a fluid situation that requires all of our flexibility, patience.. .and most importantly, perspective. In a time of global uncertainty, safety, security, and well being supersedes the SAT, AP exams, or state championships. We don't know what families are losing their jobs, have loved ones in the hospital, or are worried there is no food in the house to feed their family. Every email you write, or phone call you make could be talking to a family or student in real, historic, crisis. Please be compassionate, caring and above all else empathetic."

Cities in Texas have canceled. Can't speak for the outlying areas. foe the year? Most public schools, until April 13th for now, with planned re-evaluation before that time. My private school - indefinitely. The governor has waived all state testing requirements for the year. I think there's a strong realization that we're not going back.

I have 2 sons at two different universities. One is on the quarter system and one is on the semester system. One son o will have online classes temporarily and until further notice. The other son will have online classes and spring quarter might be postponed. He is coming home sometime this week, but were not sure how long he'll be staying. Both boys have off campus housing.
