It's not as cohesive as I'd like, but I did make the pages with the dates all the same. That's the bit that I'm struggling with thinking about doing this (instead of just doing it!) - trying to make something cohesive. It wouldn't have been, even if I'd started it a month ago, because we gain perspective with time. But it's also still an evolving situation, and I want to capture the thoughts of the moment too. I have a computer journal that I write in daily and its searchable, so I was able to pull up every mention of the rotten virus and certain other keywords, and I've compiled all my notes into a massive timeline journal entry. I'm starting to pepper in news stories and links and notes from texted conversations I had. Even if the scrapbook I make is less than awesome or comprehensive, I have that file, which is pretty awesome in itself. It's sad to look back at how naive we were... and choices we could've made differently. But I'm wishing I;d saved even more screenshots and memes of the fun stuff. Luckily I have lots of everyday photos which will balance things out.

Is anyone still watching along with these videos? I’ve been putting them on later in the day while I work on my projects. I don’t love the live format - it’s very distracted/distracting but I still watch along and get some ideas. Better than crappy Hallmark movies anyway!
This week’s one was almost 2 hours long!

joblackford, I just saw that she's now completed episode 13 in this youtube series. Watching all of that is a huge time investment. Having seen them all, is the series something you would recommend to someone who wants to get into TNs? Would learning her process really help me? Or would I likely glean as much by just looking at the completed pages?

Having seen them all, is the series something you would recommend to someone who wants to get into TNs? Would learning her process really help me? Or would I likely glean as much by just looking at the completed pages? Honestly, I'd skip them, or just watch a couple of the earlier ones which weren't done live. Live feeds are always very distracted and chatty, and she's especially scattered. TBH I've only watched about half of them and I have fast forwarded through some parts. There are a couple on specific topics (I skipped the one about making doodads to hang off the notebook - not my style but the slip cover and decorating ones were ok, if I remember correctly). But there are probably better ways to learn about TNs. Many of the live videos are just her chatting while making a few lists in her notebook. If you want some companionship while making lists and decorating pages (and if you like Layle) they're pretty fun, but I wouldn't watch them if I hadn't already gotten into the habit of using her for background noise on Saturdays. I never click on hour long process videos. I do recommend her Covid journal flip through! There's a video and a blog post. Even if you're not doing a pandemic journal, that post has some good inspiration and ideas for what you can do with a TN. scrapbookandcards.com/documenting-current-events-in-a-travelers-notebook-with-layle-koncar/

This week's class was about 2 hrs but it was a flip through of one of her newer covid journals and she worked on a couple of "layout" style pages, so more in line with scrapbooking rather than just notebook listing. There was a 3 minute false start video where she had technical issues (at first I thought it was a 3 hour session! argh!) but here is the actual session. The creating starts about 30-45mins in I think, after chitchat and flip through.

Thanks for linking the video joblackford. I fast-forwarded through much of it, but looked at every page. I liked the magazine graphic feel of her book, even though some of it was "imperfectly" hand drawn or stamped freehand. And I loved the way she outlined each page. It's an easy way to tie the look together for the whole book. And I liked the way she relied on solid color backgrounds. I feel like if she used patterned paper the pages would look too busy. Eyes need places to rest. My favorite part of the video was when she messed up her stamping and offered different ways to deal with it. Thanks again!

Absolutely I think this session was a pretty good overview of her basic ideas for all of the notebooks. Some of the other videos show the decorative stuff like slipcovers and charms and tucked die cuts into the pockets, all of which I like to look at but generally do not do myself. I keep meaning to suggest the Japanese "shitajiki" to her instead of using a stamp block - it's usually translated as a pencil board, but it's basically a rigid sheet of plastic that you slip between the pages of a notebook so your writing impressions don't ruin the page below. They come with hobonichi planners and are very handy! I don't blame you for fast-forwarding through. I do that a lot too! Even people I really like, sometimes I just have to get to the point! BTW I tried the outlining on a couple of my pages and even though it's hard for me to do something I know will be wonky it actually looks really good. I shared one in the June sharing thread that just looked really sad until I outlined it
