My director is trying to find a way for us to interact with our students (parents have been asking for this as well) and post videos or sound files and also have the kids be able to post too so we can all see what we are doing.
Does anyone have any idea what we could do? We would not like to use Facebook.
Basically 2-3 times a week we will post a prompt or suggestions of activities for the kids to do and then we would share what we did and the kids would share what they did too, so we could all see. They also want us to post a video of us reading a book or singing a song each week (that would be one of the 2-3 activities).
Any suggestions welcome!

Ds’ school is using google hangouts. His teacher set up a time for the class to meet. For now they are just letting the kids chat, I had to pry logan away after 1 1/2 hours! But it’s being set in place for teaching if necessary.

We can use Zoom, Google hangouts or the one in Schoology (we use that as our LMS).
I am using screencast-o-matic to record my lessons. I will use Zoom for live instruction and office hours.

My husband is a teacher and they are using Zoom. He can see all the kids and they can see each other. It's free for the students as long as they are in a meeting with the teacher. If not, they have to pay. I'm sure they can all keep in touch on their phones if you are talking social togetherness.

Google hangouts up to 10 people and free. My grandson's teacher today did small chats with five kids each for 15 minutes using facebook live. He was SO excited to speak with his teacher and classmates.

My kid’s grade is using the Flipgrid app. The teachers and kids can all post little videos from iPads, phones or computers with a camera and microphone. It’s actually been pretty cool for the kids to all say hi to each other.

Be careful with kids and video calling! There are some serious privacy issues.

If you register with an educator email address, the 40 minute limitation is removed.

I just had a blurb come across my feed that a parent was recording a class discussion and shared it as a good thing that’s being done with a local news agency. Since not all students had parental permission to be publically filmed it is a huge deal. I won’t do live with my 8th graders because they’re frequently inappropriate. Makes me sad because I miss many of them.

My 7th grade daughter’s teachers have been using Zoom or Google Hangouts. They have study sessions, topic discussions, and prayer time (catholic school). The teachers send out expectations beforehand (mute yourself, be in a public area-not bedroom, be dressed appropriately, no eating, don’t be on other devices, no distracting facial expressions, etc).
My daughter has really been enjoying seeing and interaction with teachers and classmates again.

Makes me sad because I miss many of them. We don’t share anything we do in school unless we have permission from the parents, all parents sign a release at the start of the year. We do have a locked down Instagram account, and we have always had strict orders that when we take pictures of the kids for that account we send them to our director then delete from our phone. I imagine our director will make sure what ever platform we use it is 100% private and obviously due to the age of our kids parent involvement will be completely necessary. I can’t imagine trying to do live anything with kids older then 8. I miss my students too, I imagine I will start crying when I finally see their little faces again!

Flipgrid and Zoom are my suggestions too. Google Classroom is a great platform to share and link everything. We have also been using Remind as a way to keep in touch.

Nothing gets posted without going through the teachers first, so I would imagine if someone didn’t want their kid on video (or if someone said something inappropriate), those would be screened out and not posted to the classroom grid.

Google classroom. You can post your videos and assignments and have typed discussions/comments. I like it because I often help kids with assignments and the classes my students are in have me as a co-teacher so I can see what has been turned in and what the grades are.
I've been using Google hangouts with another adult present. You can use it and shut off your camera, too, so you talk but not be seen. I do this with a kid and he works through Google documents so I can see what he's writing and make suggests without having to do it in the document. It allows for a real discussion.
You can use Google Meet if you want to record. I've also been using Google to make phone calls so I'm not calling from my personal line. I haven't had a problem with people answering even though it lists as an Unknown caller.
Clearly our school uses Google!

I just did a Google Meet with some of my students. I wasn't sure how to use it so this was just a test run. We didn't go over any content yet, I just was trying to figure out how it worked. I had about 20 kids join and they all showed me their pets.
My students are in 7th grade and I didn't have any problems with kids being inappropriate. I'm going to try it next week for a lesson.

DS doesn't start online instruction until Tuesday, but they will be using MS Teams. That is the platform we use at my office, and it's super easy to use.

If you have concerns about being recorded and privacy issues you can always put a disclaimer up that anyone entering the virtual meeting room agrees to being recorded. Different tools (ZOOM, Google Hangouts, etc.) handle this type of "user agreement check" in different ways. We have to do this with European colleagues at work due to GDPR regulations.

Most teachers use MS Teams in Norway. For the youngest students, Showbie is used for a lot of the daily activity while Zoom is used for quick group meetings.

Flipgrid is definitely a more safe way to connect with students and parents to share video and images.
Showbie and Seesaw are also tools often used at the elementary level.
I'm really surprised at how many schools are using free Zoom. You all are playing with fire. We have recommended our teachers not use it and use Meet instead, as it requires a login.

We use Seesaw during the school year, our kindergarten teacher posts photos or videos of the kids. However, after our schools closed, she started using it to read aloud to the kids. She's also posted videos of our classmates reading or they can just send a video/photo for the teacher and she doesn't share it. We have some shy kiddos. We "Zoom" at noon and I've got a cheat sheet she sent us, if you're interested, that you can send out to the parents to know what to expect. There were some issues with it being a little different between mobile and laptop, but we all got the hang of it pretty quickly.
