We are having pork chops, baked potato, and corn.
I prefer casual entertaining. I do use some pretty china for special family celebrations. I have a gorgeous partial set of green depression glass. My grandmother bought it for me years ago on a garage sale for 8.00. I always look at flea markets and thrift shops for an identical pattern, but haven't seen anything like it. I have a beautiful magnolia set I like to use around Christmas time. It has deep red and green colors with the flowers. I haven't used chargers or cloth napkins like people set their tables with now. I do have some pretty tablecloths though.

My son called me this morning and said, “I’ve been laid off.” oh ... nvm ... April Fool’s! dumbass Dinner will might be Thai(ish) noodles with peanuts, chicken, and veggies. Or it might be pizza. Or cookies. Who knows. I’m still eating matzoh ball soup and it’s delish. Pretty much all I really want to eat, almost every day, is soup. leannec and cadoodlebug, great memes. I’m saving lots of them for possible use in my future scrapbook of these dark days. **GypsyGirl**, I’m glad you’re feeling better today. Welcome to all the new and returning tribal members who have joined us lately.

It's Hawaain day at my casa. I have a crockpot on with pork roast seasoned with bottled smoke and Hawaiian red salt rubbed all over. The recipe is called crockpot Kahlua roast I got off of allrecipes. That plus I made a macaroni salad and some steamed jasmine rice. I also make a Persian cuke/tomato/red onion salad for me, I'll skip the macaroni salad.
We are eating more pork lately as that's easier to find at the grocery stores around me. People around here aren't big on pork. So, stir fry w/pork chops and bok choy was dinner yesterday.

My grandkids were hungry for spatzel, so I freshly made some. I also baked brownies for them.
Me, I will have the spatzel and a chicken breast.

Bow tie pasta with mixed vegetables and grilled chicken, fresh Parmesan cheese and zesty Italian dressing. I added the remaining olives, feta cheese and pepper antipasto mix to it.

**GypsyGirl** we did have an actual squirrelproof bird feeder once! I am definitely more of a casual get together person! We finally caved on not eating out and we are doing carside pickup of pizza.

DH wanted mashed potatoes. So we're having sauteed cabbage and turkey sausage, and loaded mashed potatoes tonight.
I like casual entertaining. Cook up a bunch of a main course (usually BBQ), set all the side dishes out buffet style, and let people serve themselves. It's the norm for our family and friends.

My son called me this morning and said, “I’ve been laid off.” Yeah, not so funny right now. It's my dad's 91st birthday and he had a visit from some birthday carolers this morning that made his day. He is in great health, but feeling very isolated right now. Thankfully he lives on the ground floor and so my sis, nephew & their SOs were able to sing to him in person while maintaining a safe distance. I've promised him a visit and to make a lemon meringue pie as soon as travel gets back to normal. I've also realized my self care includes NOT watching eleventy billion hours of daytime TV. Dinner will be this Wild Rice and Butternut Squash salad I discovered last week. I didn't add the leeks because we didn't have any, so will leave them out again, and skip the maple syrup because I'm not a fan. I might add lemon juice because I always like everything a little more acidic. I think you would love this AussieMeg. Well, at least the pumpkin part.

Well I don't usually post here, but I always mean to.
Today we had pulled pork made in the slow cooker, baked beans and coleslaw.
We do very casual and sometimes a bit more formal (cloth napkins and napkin holders, table runner and center piece, but my white Correlle plates that have a raised flower pattern).

I made a good old fashioned Aussie comfort food special - curried sausages with mashed potato. Dinner will be this Wild Rice and Butternut Squash salad I discovered last week. I didn't add the leeks because we didn't have any, so will leave them out again, and skip the maple syrup because I'm not a fan. I might add lemon juice because I always like everything a little more acidic. I think you would love this AussieMeg . Well, at least the pumpkin part. Ooooh yes, thanks, it looks delicious! Before I got down to the ingredients I was hoping it had balsamic in it too - yum!

I used to entertain a lot more when I was younger, but it was always casual. Not paper plates though, unless it was a BBQ or something. For Christmas I will pull out my plates that I got at the dollar tree a few years ago that have red cardinals and pine sprigs on them. I never got china at my wedding.
We are having a leftover buffet, followed by popcorn and Harry Potter movie. We have started at the beginning, tonight will be #3. Seems like I always have too many leftovers. I still struggle not cooking for a family!

I congratulated my son on getting a rabbit. He totally freaked out. It was his wife’s idea. I haven’t heard anything since. There is no rabbit involved.

Dh must have been hungry for cauliflower when he went shopping because he came home with three large heads, four if you count the one on his shoulders , so I changed my menu and will be making a sausage sheet pan dinner and rice. You MUST come back to the dinner thread each day. We've missed your humor!! I wish we could make it mandatory.

Went shopping for my elderly friend. She was so relieved to not have to go out. Then dd & I went to a different metro park. She’s making me run again. There were turkeys and turkey vultures in the woods. That’s been our excitement lately.
Came home and dd decided to bake brownies and banana bread. DH didn’t want to wait for her to clear out of the kitchen so he ordered subs for us.
Rarely do we use paper products for entertaining. Just fiesta ware and regular silver ware. For Thanksgiving I have a set of Spode thanksgiving dishes. I love to set the whole table with pumpkins, flowers and vintage turkey salt & pepper shakers.

Someone has to be the last to post on the thread; I'll claim that honor today. My trip to the grocery store this morning was actually pleasant...a stock clerk wiping a cart down with sanitizer as each customer approached, not many people shopping and most waited at the end of an aisle for a customer to leave it before entering and everything on my list was available. I call that a success, even if I did have to get up way early to do it. Even though it wasn't Costco, I channeled lucyg and brought a rotisserie chicken home with me. I can say for certain it was the first time I've ever bought a freshly-cooked chicken before breakfast. I went on a food-prep frenzy and mass-produced chicken enchiladas. One pan became tonight's dinner and three more went in the freezer for a quick meal at a later date. Plus I threw the bones in the IP for stock. Florida finally has joined the rest of the states in enacting a stay-at-home policy. It won't make much difference to us; we weren't going anywhere that wasn't essential already. For the most part, entertaining here is pretty casual. Occasionally there are paper plates but usually it's regular dishes and silverware. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, however, it's china, real silver and stemware. The silver and stemware belonged to DH's grandmother and they were always on her table on the holidays. It wouldn't seem right without them.

I’ve been meaning to post on these threads but always forget.
We had pork chops with cinnamon-thyme apples + mac & cheese tonight.
No recipe, just winged it. Seared the pork chops, pulled them out of the pan. Sautéed the apples with butter, ground pumpkin pie spice, ground cinnamon, dried thyme (no fresh). Deglazed the pan with apple cider vinegar and a splash of beef broth. Nestled the pork chops back in, stuck in a meat thermometer, and put them in a 370F oven to finish. Meanwhile, I made boxed Kraft mac and cheese, ha.

I doubt we will get our restrictions lifted before the end of May, despite what is being said now, and I think the US is behind us on its trajectory, so even longer. Germany's numbers are so impressive and they are definitely doing something right. Germany was a bit lucky, as its first outbreak was among younger, healthier people who went skiing in Northern Italy during the 'faschingsferien' (Carnival school break) in the last week of February. As well as that, they realised very quickly what was likely to happen, as that was the week that cases in Italy exploded, so schools were quickly shut down and a 'test and trace' regime impletmented. Any one who had been in Italy in that week was asked to isolate for 2 weeks, andyone who showed symptoms was tested, and contacts traced and told to isolate as well. Germany is also testing at a fairly high rate overall, compared to many countries -last week they had 500,000 tests done. I fear our numbers are not going to look as good in a few weeks - yesterday 2 care homes for the elderly in Munich were quarantined and everyone in them tested, after a couple of positives connected to them. As we've seen in other places, once it gets into a care home, it infects and kills many.
