I don’t sell on etsy but I’m making/selling. Right now I’m 6 masks from being caught up on orders. I’m the slowest crafter EVER! 🤣 How much? What type of masks? Elastic or tie? Thanks! $7.50 for elastic $9 for tie (plus postage). I have LOTS of fabric options too! They're made to order so I won't get it made until probably Tuesday at the earliest. The ties are more because I have to make the ties. No more bias binding and my ribbons all pull when I sew them. Grrrrr...

Anyone making masks and selling them on Etsy? I am an essential worker (work in veterinary medicine) so I need them to wear them at work. Thanks! If you PM me your address, I’ll send you some! I just did a big sewing of dog & cat prints for our local veterinary hospital. I donated 50 masks to them and have some left. You can have them for free. It feels weird to me to sell them!

Seriously! I’m charging just to recoup my fabric costs.

DD said she wants to wear a mask at work (she's a cashier). Usually about 6 hour long shifts. Should she? It would have to be a homemade mask from quilting cotton and she definitely won't be 6' away from people.

Lots of cashiers here wear them now.

I've just seen where some said it might make it worse if it's not a certain kind of mask.

Masks really only prevent spread outward. They slow down infection FROM the wearer. A face shield Would provide a bit of protection to the wearer. Many diy options out there. Also do a mask with a filter like Pellon, paper towel, dishcloth. Dont use cut up HEPA filters. They are not good for your lungs

I don't think she'll wear a face shield. I think she's a bit reluctant to even wear a mask. They do wear gloves and can change them as often as they want to.

Mask with pocket and optional nose wire: Has anyone made these? I looked through the thread x3 and didn't see the link posted anywhere but in the OP. I feel like I could make them with a channel for the nose wire where it can be removed for washing. Or leave it out altogether. Is there another that doesn't need the nose wire?

The wire I like is: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RDPI08/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It crimps very well, but has soft foam around it so it doesn't rust or poke through the fabric. It can be removed for washing. I'm getting fabric on Etsy. This seller has been very nice and has let my sisters & SILs across the country combine orders and ship to me. She also chatted with me for a long time one night and answered some sewing questions. www.etsy.com/shop/mimisI was going to put in a pocket and use allergy-grade AC filters, but after researching more, I will not. I've been sandwiching a heavyweight t-shirt fabric (actual t-shirt) between two layers of cotton. Sewn-in/permanent. I'm using a fitted mask pattern with a nose ties and crimp and feel this is a good combo. Slightly modified version of this pattern: jennifermaker.com/face-mask-patterns-cricut/I want something that will be comfortable enough that people (my family) will keep on properly and wear. I'm afraid if it's too bulky people won't wear it or they won't wear it properly. Better they wear a mask that's only three layers and no filter than carry the filter one around in a pocket or purse, or let it hang around their neck.

I use the Olson Mask. Its similar to the one listed above. I just make two layers for the mouth section using one cotton and one tshirt layer. I make the whole thing with my serger, no hemming required.

I just discovered last night that Tshirts cut into 1" strips make a really good alternative to elastic and ties. No "finishing" required so it makes the process much faster and it's much more comfortable than elastic. Just thought I'd pass that along.

I think I read on FB that tees for ear loops don't hold up well in the wash. Haven't tried it, but please update once you have.

My friend created her own design that's pretty ingenious! Her son didn't want anything on his ears so she made this design up. Attachments:

I made a mask with pleats and a pocket with fabric (Kona) ties and even when I tie it tightly it slips down my hair. I'm thinking maybe I need to make ear elastic pieces or try something else. It looks like the picture in the above post but has two sets of straps (love the button and hair tie..that may be above my pay grade).
It's not even for me..for my ds and I definitely want it to stay in place better.

Besides Joann's any other locations to buy fabric? I cannot put fabric in my cart online. I've been calling the store all morning and it's busy. I have no fabric What about cotton sheets? Depending on how many you are making, you could use something as small as a pillowcase or crib sheet.

If you want a nose wire, I found some paper clips in my desk drawer that don’t rust and the wire gauge is quite heavy. It takes some fiddling to get the wire to be comfortably shaped over my nose, but then it’s great.
I’m using the AB mask pattern, but sewing it together so that there’s a full seam on the top and bottom. Then I’m using bias tape to finish the sides and twill tape to use as ties. I ordered almost 300 yards of it, so that should make quite a few.
But then, our mail has stopped again. Or Amazon just isn’t sending to APO addresses again. Sigh...

I made a couple masks for my brother that have a narrow pocket at the top for a nose piece. He wants to try using a piece of the double wire, plastic coated strip that closes the top of a bag of coffee beans slipped in the pocket. It can be removed for washing. I hope it works!

Any idea how it is with glasses? I've read that it doesn't cause glasses to fog up. I am going to be making some, and def. using pipe cleaner to create a flexible nose piece. I am sewing a lot of other style masks now but will then switch to this pattern. If you add pipe cleaner or other wire, fold it in at the ends so there is no very sharp piece on the end, and tack in place so it can't travel.

I'm doing ties for the ones that go to hospitals - ear loops for friends/neighbors who need them for their weekly grocery trips (those won't need to be washed as often).

This is a link for the mask being made by the people who tested the shop towels. They offer a free downloadable pattern. My material hasn't arrived yet so I can't test it out, but I do like that the pattern has a chin piece: suayla.com/pages/suay-community-mask-coalition
