So last night I had to soak off my dip nails. They had grown out so much that I was worried they would bend back and pop off and tear my nail bed.
But the fingers look so BAD!!
Do those press on nails really work? Does anyone have a recommendation for a good set of press on nails? My own nails are so thin that my fingers hurt all the time when they are naked. Plus they tear vertically down into the nail bed - ouch!

My dd's both took there gels off last week. Both complained they hurt or were super sensitive for a couple days. One was looking for vitamin e or argon oil, not sure if she came across any. Either way after a couple days they said they felt much better.

I gave up using the dip on my nails last year. It took a few months for them to look 'normal' again. The one thing that made the biggest difference with the thinness and splitting? Biotin tablets once a day. I'd heard that from several people but never tried it. It really did make a huge difference in my nails though. After 3 months, my nails have quit peeling and splitting, and are growing out on their own!

I used nail harder when I took mine off (this was a few years ago).. the first few days are always the hardest. I wouldn't put press on nails on nails that need to heal.

You need Color Street nails! I love them. They are made of real nail polish. They are easy to apply, last 2 weeks, and easy to remove with regular fingernail polish.

I know I won't be able to deal with naked nails...I have acrylics normally and I've bought a gel kit to do myself until I'm allowed to go to the salon again.
The gel is like thick nail polish and you do a base coat, color, topcoat and cure under UV/LED light at each stage. I already had the light, and bought the Gelish gel starter kit. I'm pretty good at painting my own nails so this shouldn't be too bad. I considered doing my own SNS but there were too many steps compared to the gel. I'm planning on my first test run next week. I didn't buy a color though, just a clear gel...I figure if everything is just clear any dodgy bits will be less obvious.

I normally wear Impress nails quite often. Yes, they work, and work well.
But I want to suggest that no one should be wearing fake nails or having long nails right now. They are a hotbed for dirt, bacteria and viruses. And if your nails are false or long, it's virtually impossible to clean them thoroughly. Many hospitals don't allow nails past the end of the fingers for this reason.
You'll have years to have pretty nails; maybe give it a break for a few months to help keep you safe?

Depends on how long it takes for your nails to grow, on how long your nails will be in terrible shape. It took a nearly a year for mine to recover.

Mainly to prevent product contamination from something flaking off or breaking, but thorough cleaning is another consideration. (I'm going to have to remember that to add that point into the good mfg practices training that I perform!)

... I wouldn't put press on nails on nails that need to heal. I agree. Hopefully you can bear the sensitivity for a few days as you and your nails acclimate. It seems much healthier to leave off any other type of artificial nail until yours become a little stronger.

You can get a dip kit and do it yourself, it's not hard to do at all.
The reason your nails are thin and sensitive is because they're filing them down to prep or remove, I would guess; if you do it yourself, you can avoid that. I only do my own gel and removal because I won't let anyone near my fingernails for just that reason!
As a result, because I take time to remove gently and properly, my nails are quite healthy under the gel.
I don't like dip as much because it is harder to remove than soak off gels but it can be done.
