I posted on the mask making thread but think my post got lost in there. Could you tell me if you made any of the masks you posted using the synthetic clothesline? I have a bunch of that but was wondering if it stays tied well. Since you’ve made so many of that particular pattern can you tell what you prefer for the ties? Thanks for any input! You look so stylish in your mask 😷.

I know many have probably made this style mask that called for using the synthetic clothesline for the ties. Have anyone used it ? I should’ve put the call out to everyone that’s been making masks for any input! Thanks for any info.

I am using grosgrain ribbon in mine. Like the pattern that Patter has posted. And I think she has been using a cotton twill ribbon.

You can also use cotton cording. It's used to put inside of piping (pillows, clothes), comes in various diameters and is typically very soft. Not sure if it's available now on Joanns but I've seen some on Etsy.
Another option to get cording is to take packages of prepackaged piping and pull the cording out.

You can use old t-shirts. Just cut them around the body about 1 1/2” wide. When you pull the ends they will roll up.

Sorry, I have been really busy with work today. Anyway, no I did not use the synthetic clothesline like she suggested. I personally think it would not tie well. Anyway, I use cotton twill ribbon but shoelace ties will work beautifully also. You will need 50-60" ties. I wore my mask out again today. It works great once you figure out how to put it on and bunch it up to fit you best.

Thanks everyone! While I can sew some, I’m always happy to get help and advice from more pro sewers. Peas are the best!

When I sewed ours I used hair ties, clipped them so they’re one straight piece of elastic. They are great and I had some great colors.
Just don’t tell my cat I cut up her toys!

I’m using twill tape for my ties. I’m making the AB masks style and most people are requesting ties vs elastic. Then I’m using paper clips (straightened) for the nose pieces. I got lucky and the ones I have don’t rust.
