My doctor has ordered it for me to take along with my inhaler. I know it’s different for everyone, just wondering how well it works for you? Do you have side effects from it?

My DD takes it for allergies along with Flonase and hasn’t had any issues with it. Her doctor said it can give people weird dreams but we haven’t had that happen.

I take it for allergies. I take Allegra D every day but if I still have symptoms, I take singular at night. I only take it a few times a month, at most, mostly in the spring. No side effects for me.

I take it for asthma, and have for several years. No side effects for me. I have noticed that when I quit taking it for a while I have a bit more wheezing, so apparently it does work.

DS took it for his asthma when it first came on the market back in the late 90's. It worked well for him. Most people think asthma is for life but he he was lucky in that he outgrew it as an adult. Only has to use his inhaler when he's going to be around cats. At one point he was on 4 inhalers.

I take it once a day and have had no issues with it. I can tell a difference if I miss a pill - more tightness in my chest and more wheezing.

While he hasn't had an asthma attack in years, I know there is always a chance and covid takes a lot out of the lungs.

I do! I have taken it for years. I used to only have to take it several months of the year when the seasonal allergies and pollen makes everything so much worse for my breathing. A few years ago the dr. suggested I just take it year round. Has made a big improvement for me. I take that and Advair inhaler daily. I have albuterol inhaler for times when I feel worse. But I agree with @bdhardy -- if I miss a dose, I can feel it -- tighter lungs and wheezing.

I take it for asthma and allergies, every night at bedtime. If I forget (especially if it's more than one day in a row, yes, I am lazy) I can tell I have a little chest tightness. I've been on it for several years, and don't know of any side effects.

I take it every day for asthma, along with a daily over the counter allergy medicine. I have to take it at night because it knocks me out. Other than that, I have no side effects.

I’ve taken it daily since it came out, I think in the late 90’s? It really helps with my asthma and allergies. I have had no discernible side effects.

It caused suicidal ideation for my daughter. I was talking to someone else who said the same thing. Friend of mine posted it on facebook and several people said that their kids were having sleep issues, behavioral changes, and suicidal ideation after taking it.

When it first hit the market I was involved in a double blind study of singulair vs. claritin vs. placebo vs. something else. All different combinations in different phases of the trial. I was in it for 3 phases and ultimately my asthma was no longer active while taking the medication so I was asked to leave the study. When I quit taking the meds, my asthma came back full force! So... I went to my GP and asked if she would please prescribe it for me. Nope. I got labeled a "difficult patient" for asking for it too! I explained why and what I was involved in and she still refused. Gave me claritin instead. Nope, didn't work. As I've gotten older, my asthma has settled down quite a bit. If I exercise, I need my inhaler and if I'm dealing with high allergies I need it. Otherwise I'm usually pretty ok.

It caused suicidal ideation for my daughter. I’d forgotten all about this. DS took it for a while and when he was in middle school, a study came out saying that it could cause depression in children. He stopped taking it and was a new person in less than a week. Luckily for me, I never had any issues.

As a side note, those of you commenting on the suicidal ideation and depression - I'm not liking it because I like that this happened to your families, but just that it's such an underreported side effect. Once we figured it out and mentioned to the allergist and the psychiatrist, they were both 100% in favor of her quitting it, and it did seem to make a huge difference. Unfortunately we didn't figure it out until she'd been on it for several months so she was dealing with this crap for that long - I'm just beyond grateful it was figured out before she did anything other than make threats.

I think this really speaks to your pharmacist. I had a good friend who is a pharmacist and it’s crazy how little doctors really know about most drugs. In all their years of med school, most only take one class about medications. The rest is learned as they go. So they learned the meds to treat diseases and injuries, but not all the ins and outs of each drug.
