Twice a week curbside at our favorite local joints (which is actually 2-3x our normal). We're re-plating, reheating and neurotically washing hands. We're trying very hard to balance stay at home with supporting our local communities.

Nope, not b/c of the ‘rona, but b/c we never do in normal times. We were eating every Thursday at a local bar/restaurant where our Ds had a weekly music gig, but they are closed. 😢 With proper precautions, I wouldn’t be afraid of takeout, we just don’t do it as Dh is a very picky eater and I don’t need the extra calories, especially now!

Twice this weekend. My 19yo orders Door Dash sometimes during the day. I can't tell her what to do with her money. She put a chair by the door but 80% of the time they still put the food on the ground 🙄

I told my DH that we could do it once every 2 weeks and do something similar-moving the food to our own dishes and reheating them. That's what we have done also without the reheating. Many places do the "touchless" delivery to your car. My mom and I did fish fries this past Friday. We washed our hands before opening the box and after.

Yes, about once a week from a local favorite. We know the owner and want to support him. Following all precautions mentioned by previous posters.

It's a big thing around here, with people wanting to support the small businesses. I understand that totally, but still my dh and I talked about it and we're not willing to risk it. We had a local bbq place that just announced two employees tested positive. The manager was quick to mention that they were not food prep people, they were the ones who were bringing the food to the curb for pickup. Which is even worse to me! At least with the food prep people we can hope that reheating the food at home would kill any virus present. But the ones who are bringing it to the car/curb? Nope, we just decided we weren't wiling to risk it.

Once a week. We use locally owned restaurants if possible; there just aren't that many of those in our town. We had fast food last week because it was a Monday and our choices were more limited. This week, DH wants to get takeout from the Mexican restaurant if they are still serving. Some of the local places have already shut down entirely for at least a month.

My answer was no, because my DH is so fragile. I can't take any risks.
I am glad people are getting takeout. It's good for them to have a great, as well as helping out a business.
I have ordered gift cards to our favorites. I can't wait to use them.

We've ordered a special 'meal deal' twice that our local Italian restaurant has been offering. It's our favorite local place and we want to support them.

We're in the yes but only once a week camp. We're only ordering from locals we want to keep in business, and it's helping to keep us happy at home (DD and me, anyway) vs. dying to get out. None of us are medically fragile (though we do have a risk factor or two) and DH is going out every day for work (actually yesterday was the first day since 3/8 he hasn't had to physically go in!) so the food is not really our biggest risk - it's more what he might catch and bring home.

Yes, we've kept up our usual routine of Friday night takeout from the local Thai place. We've been ordering more than we usually would and eating the leftovers for lunch. It's been delicious!!! We don't have any medical issues that put us at risk, if that were the case I'd reconsider.

We have one time but it makes me uncomfortable so we won’t be doing it again. DH really wants to get a pizza. We have no local pizza places open except a gas station, but the chains are open. I'm just too freaked out by it.

We are - once a week from a locally owned restaurant (rotating through our favorites). Trying to do our part to keep them open. None of us have major health issues and DH & I are both working at home. We are removing food from the takeout containers, washing hands and choosing options to minimize contact. My DH was in restaurants before becoming a teacher, we are both still working and receiving our salaries, for us this is a small way to support our local economy. This is pretty much us. We order 1x week from our fave local restaurant, owned by some neighbors. We have also ordered 1x from another local place. We are following the same procedure as playingcinderella. We pay by credit card over the phone and pickup is contactless (bag is on a table, 6' away from other bags).

I answered no but it's only because I have been at my parents' house in FL and there's nothing around. I live in Chicago and if I was at home, I would order it a couple of times a week. For sure.

I voted YES but we have only done it twice. Once we ordered pizza (contact-less delivery) and another time we ordered pho via Doordash. I am the main chef around here and I love having takeout once in awhile so I can get a break, but we haven't indulged much because it can be expensive and DH's job has had some reduced hours lately. So we're trying to save by not splurging.

We normally do take out a few nights a week, like at least 2-3 during a normal week.
We're currently doing it about once a week and eating home the rest.

I’m not even tempted.
Other than pizza once a week (which I really miss) and picking up Chipotle for lunch during the week, we hardly ever get take out. If I’m not going to cook, I want to eat in a restaurant, where the food is still hot, I get refills (drinks, chips, etc.), and I walk away from all the dishes and the mess and come home to a clean kitchen.
Washing down containers, transferring food to my own dishes, and then microwaving it (ewww) and cleaning up afterward - I may as well just make my own cheaper food. The effort seems the same. And the worry, less.
ETA - I also don’t make the kinds of meals that I see being talked about here a lot - a main dish with a side or two and a salad and rolls, etc. so, even though I’m tired of it, the meals I’m cooking are not as involved as I think others are likely making.
There are also not a lot of local places around us, that we normally support anyway.
We get frozen pizza on our grocery order and still have pizza night once a week where I don’t have to cook. And I make a pretty decent copycat chipotle bowl for lunches. It’ll have to do. I just hope I don’t get used to it, because going out to eat is my love language!

Nope. One income here so being careful about spending. I can in most cases recreate the same dishes at far less cost.

Yes, but local places only. And we do so safely. Bags come into the house, we tag team (clean hands, contact hands) placing all the items onto our own dishes. Bags and containers are trashed/recycled, counters disinfected. Then we eat.
I understand not wanting to take the risk. Seeing videos of people eating takeout in their car makes me nuts. Chik-fil-a is not that good and not worth that risk imo.

We did takeout from our favorite Mexican restaurant last night. They were very appreciative.
I've noticed that a lot of restaurants have "family dinners." We did fajitas and all the extras that came with it, family dinner for 4-5 it was advertised for $40. I always get at least three meals out of the individual one I order there. This was giant and will be at least three dinners for two of us plus I toss in some of the fajita mix for a few omelettes. We added in 1/2 gallon of Margaritas (still have 1/2 left) so the whole thing cost around $75---for three+ dinners that's a deal!

Do you not have delivery? We still order from Uber Eats occasionally but a lot less than we used to, in part bc we were eating that way so often before all this that I'm actually kind of tired of it and enjoying eating our own food. Yes, there is DoorDash and a few other delivery services, no Uber Eats as no Uber in my city in Canada. I am just not going to eat out. I rarely eat out anyway and I can cook for myself. When you are on a strict budget, you make do. Ok so you're choosing not to get takeout because you don't want to, not because you're under stay at home orders (which do not include getting food). I didn't ask about your budget. If that's why you're not into takeout, that's fine, whatever works for you. Your posts always have that slightly condescending quality to them, as though you might need help climbing down off that high horse at night.

I answered no because we have not had hot food delivered. But I have discovered our local farmers market is selling items with delivery. They have some kits made up with popular products. And you can buy items individually. A lot of the places have product ready to go and nowhere to sell it. They are doing curbside pickup on market days and delivery. I have an order coming today with local pork products from a local farm that sells at the market. And as a treat I added some Gelato, my son't favourite market treat and some fudge, my DH's favourite market treat.
I have also ordered from a gluten free bakery for myself. It is not as easy to find celiac friendly take out. I have some choices but cannot just order from anywhere. I always find it hard to travel because of that.
I agree that we are trying to support locally when we can. But I think that people who are refusing to order from chain restaurants still have to remember the employees of those chain restaurants are from your community.
And I also think if you are worried about the virus large chain restaurants may have better access to proper cleaning information and products. Because they have a corporate office who can access medical direction.

Yes but we have so little covid near us that after this month of distancing I am not overly worried. Well I eat Keto so it's mainly for my kiddos. We don't have a lot of choices since we are so rural. Two "chains" that are locally owned and the employees are from town and I still want them to have jobs. The rest are local diners etc.
When I say little covid is that our whole county had 2 cases and are considered "recovered". The neighboring counties have 1-4 cases are also recovered. We have two hot spots in our state and those are large cities. Even then it's not the scale of many places. I made a comment the other day of maybe making the hour one way drive to get a starbucks but we decided to avoid any areas with larger populations.

No, not since the first week of March. We don't go to restaurants or pick up takeout that often anyway. We have a firm food and entertainment budget. Prepared food is only an occasional luxury.
