What are your three favorite clothing stores? Why are they your favorites? Here are mine:
Nordstrom-it's pricey but they have good sales and free shipping both ways
Talbots-their clothes last for years and never go out of style-something is always on sale at a great price
Land's End-my go to for bathing suits that hold everything in place and never fade

Nordstrom - They carry my small shoe size. I don’t like that they did away with their petite section though. Madewell - I just like their simple styles. Lululemon
I used to really like Anthropologie but lately I don’t find much there.
ETA - I like Uniqlo too but we don’t have any local stores.

I don't buy clothes very often. When I do, it's usually from Kohls. The last thing i got there was a pair of pajama pants off the clearance rack for about $5. I like Kohls because I can find a deal there with coupons, etc. I have ordered shoes from shoes.com too.

My go tos are: Uniqlo--I like their modern, Japanese aesthetic, use of natural fibers, and sophisticated color palettes. I also like some of their collaborations. I bought some pieces from the spring Ines de la Fressange collection that I'm probably not going to get to wear since I'm not going anywhere this spring. Gap--American classics, sporty vibe, use of natural fibers. J. Crew--American classics, like their collaborations, cute accessories. Gudrun Sjoden--Swedish designer whose flowy Lagenlook designs appeal to the boho side of my fashion persona. Beautiful, high quality fabrics in luscious color palettes. Madewell--hit or miss but when it's a hit, it's amazing. Got a wool coat this year that fits so well it's almost like it was tailored to my body. Garnet Hill--My go-to for event clothing with the casual edge that fits my style. I guess narrowing it down to three was impossible.

Currently, I'm not 100% in love with any of them. But you asked for 3 so here it is: 1. Tommy Bahama 2. Local boutiques (Jo Ann's and Pretty Please) 3. Talbots (hope springs eternal that they'll get their shit together on sizing and quality) In the last 4-5 years my favorites have changed. Nordstrom & Talbots were the top of the list for almost 40 years. Now I find the quality isn't as good at Talbots and all semblance of consistent sizing has gone out the window. Nordstrom is just not the same since the family isn't in control now. So many of the little touches that made it special have been thrown out. Clothing lines are hit or miss. They really pissed me off when they did away with the Petites department and mixed all petite clothing in with the other clothing! Good luck at finding that elusive pair of petite pants in your size! Bitter? Who me? Nahhhh....

My favorites definitely shift around but these are them lately:
Sundance Catalog Title 9/Patagonia Boden Wrap London Anthropologie and Athleta have dropped down a bit on the list
Edited - the cotton blouses from Sundance are just so beautiful - they never disappoint and look so good with jeans and shorts. I also adore their unique jewelry.

**GypsyGirl** Yeah, I wish Nordstrom would put back their petite department. Finding nice slacks for work used to be so easy! Now, it is like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Their housewares on the other hand ;quilts and rugs) are awesome. So I don’t order clothing from them anymore even though they have adorable stuff

Clothes really aren't my thing.
Probably Kohls and second hand stores. and even WalMart for jeans, sweats and informal stuff. Which is pretty much my everyday.

Chicos has been my favorite place to shop for many years. It largely depends upon the season. Though I rarely shop there, because I'm at home all the time and really frugal.
When I had my career my go-to's were Chicos, Nordstrom and Macys

1. Goodwill 2. Salvation Army 3. Poshmark
(Where I have found garments with labels from most of the stores mentioned in this thread.)
I am newly (the last year) on a pledge to limit my new/retail purchases to only undergarments and pajamas. And I have a lifelong attraction to cheap. Admittedly, it really helps that I thrill to the hunt and consider thrifting (things and clothes) a hobby.

I have found some good stuff lately at Old Navy and JC Penny though. Well, before the quarantine. It's hit and miss.

Keep in mind I telework - when it’s not stay home order I go to an office for meeting or client’s home about 2x per week and I workout a lot. 1. Athelta - see above 2. Nordstrom rack. I like the variety and the prices. I can get jeans, cute work tops, sweaters, casual clothes, accessories... 3. Can’t decide on this one. I can think of three stores that are hit or miss but I do like to check out because sometimes I get stuff I like a lot: - Maurice’s -Loft -American Eagle

Wow, it's hard to say just three.
I buy jeans from Torrid and occasionally Nordstrom Rack or Macy's (I like the Democracy brand and Kut from the Kloth) Work pants, nice cardigans and some nicer tops from Loft. The girlfriend chinos are a major favorite for work. Trend items from Old Navy or sometimes Target.
I like J. Crew and BR but find the sizing inconsistent at my end of the size spectrum, and am often unwilling to pay their full price (and by the time the sales hit, my very popular size is usually sold out).
I want to like Gap, but find that most of their clothes are cut more for a straight up and down or apple-shaped figure and don't work for me (same problem at BR, but oddly not as much at ON).
I just ordered a few new t-shirts from LL Bean so we'll see how those work out.
I'm a sucker for graphic tees from places like Tee Public that get advertised heavily on Facebook. It's one of the very few places that makes cute/funny graphic tees in a "curvy v-neck" style that suits my figure. Most of the other places that have that fit print cliche things like "Shine" or "Blessed" on their tees. No thank you. I like funny pop culture references or sarcastic comments on my tees, TYVM.
Workout gear - GapFit, Core 10 (Amazon), Athleta when I can get it on sale. Also the new line from Target - can't think of the brand name right now - has some really nice workout tights. Sports bras unfortunately mostly have to come from a specialty place like Herroom.

I am not much of a clothes person though. I want stuff I can order online and I know what size I wear in those stores.

I love Catos... i like that discount every tues and i can usu6find something for 3 to 9 dollars... also i like that they still offer layaway so i can get a couple regular price things and pay them out...
I also like Torrid but really only on clearance..
3rd is Ross or Marshalls..
Im not a big spender on clothes... and it doesn't have to be timeless or a classic because i only wear it for awhile then pass it on to someone else...

Madewell is up by itself. They also have the best maternity jeans, if anyone you know is looking.
And then next but further down on the list: - Everlane - J.Crew - Abercrombie (their rebrand was impressive and their jeans fit me like none other) - Loft
The rare, occasional gem: - Zara - H&M - Old Navy
I love shopping at Uniqlo but don’t like how most of the stuff fits me. But my husband loves Uniqlo.
