I placed an online order at my local Joanns for some fabric so that I can jump on the mask making bandwagon. It was hard to find fabrics I wanted that did not say out of stock....but I finally found three. I placed my order for 1 yard of each for pickup. There was a blurb saying that due to being so busy, that online orders would take a bit longer to fill. Understandable. But its been 5 days! and I am still waiting for the email to say that my order is ready to be picked up! When I log on to the website to track my order it just says it is in process. Don't you think 5 days is a bit long to cut three yards of fabric? I know they have other orders besides mine, but still.....5 days? I guess I'm just lucky I haven't received a "your order is cancelled" email yet....so at least there is still hope. I tried calling to ask how long online orders were taking but there is just a recording saying they are not answering the phone, ect.... Honestly, if I had known it was going to take this long, I would have figured out some other way to order fabric. There is a quilting fabric store near me that is actually open...although their prices are much higher. I guess if I actually mask up and go there and spend more money that is one way to make sure my Joanns order will be ready an hour later...

I’m still waiting as well, it’s been over a week. 5 out of 6 items were canceled, too.

I tried ordering for curbside pickup. After a couple days they cancelled my order. I went on their online site and ordered the same fabric from them and received it in two days. Go figure..

I was going to order some elastic for curbside pickup, but I guess you guys just made my decision for me :/. I was surprised it was listed in stock (the Amazon estimates were more like six weeks), but it sounds like it will take a while and perhaps not be in stock after all.

Whelp, correction. I went to make sure I didn’t miss anything, and I did. They actually cancelled all my items (thread and white fabric) but didn’t formally cancel the order. Oh well.

The last 2 orders took 8 days each. It was faster to order online and have it shipped.

Just talked to a friend today who had a curbside order with Joann's. The phone wasn't working when she got there to let them know her spot, so she ended up standing in line for an hour. When she got inside finally, they told her they didn't have her fabric, had cancelled her order, but never notified her of that. I wouldn't bother with Joann's if I could help it. There is a quilting fabric store near me that is actually open...although their prices are much higher. I guess if I actually mask up and go there and spend more money that is one way to make sure my Joanns order will be ready an hour later...
The prices won't be that much higher and you will be supporting a local business. The one in Tomball and the one in Spring are both doing curbside pick up, as well as mail order. My friend placed her order with the one in Tomball and will pick it up tomorrow.

Thanks for that info. I guess I'll be doing that instead now. I just can not fathom why its taking up to 8 days to process an online order....and I for sure don't want to stand in line for an hour! The place I know of near me does not appear to have online ordering available. I'll google for the one in Spring...I'm close to there.

They always have a nice sale section so when you call them to order, ask about that. A few days ago they had some elastic, but not sure if they still do or not. Ask which days they are doing curbside pickup, because they are alternating days with their Humble store.

Joann’s order online, pickup in store has been a dumpster fire since they rolled it out. Long before any of this, I tried to order some cookie cutter sets they had on their website and that were showing as being in stock at the store closest to me so I ordered them to pickup in store. Over a week went by with no notice whatsoever. I went in and asked someone, and they said they were way behind because they had no one in the store to pull the online orders and had boxes of inventory stacked up to the ceiling in the back. I asked to talk to the manager and she said the stuff I was looking for was in a shopping cart in back and she would wheel it out so I could dig through it if I wanted to. I really wanted the stuff I ordered and knew it would sell out the second someone put it out so I said I’d dig, but what a clusterf@ck. I wouldn’t even bother with Joann’s curbside order pickup now. On the flip side of the coin, about a week or so ago I saw some stuff on Michael’s website that was on clearance that I wanted. The store by me had it in stock so I ordered it with curbside pickup. Later that afternoon I got an email saying my stuff was ready with instructions for what to do when I got to the store. Drove over there, called the store number in the email, they asked me my name and order number and what make and color my vehicle was, and someone walked it right out and put it through my open window after showing my ID. It couldn’t have been faster or easier. If they sold fabric they could put Joann’s right under. The only places to buy fabric anywhere near me is Joann’s, Hobby Lobby and there’s one really expensive quilt store that I go to if I want really nice flannel or quilting cotton but that’s all they sell.

The only places to buy fabric anywhere near me is Joann’s, Hobby Lobby and there’s one really expensive quilt store that I go to if I want really nice flannel or quilting cotton but that’s all they sell. Michaels probably would have been having the same issues if they did indeed sell fabric. Everyone ran out to buy elastic and fabric before the stores shutdown and continued to order like crazy when it went to straight curbside. I am sure it all varies by store and different times. Most times I order online to pick up at my nearby Michaels I end up receiving a cancel and then I will drive over, go in and find the items that they cancelled on me. I know just before the shutdown I ordered elastic and 2 days later they cancelled my order. In this instance I did not go to the store because I knew that by now all the elastic was gone. The 2 Joann stores near me were having so many issues trying to fill orders and they said that they were busier with in store orders on the one weekend than the entire Christmas season. Some of the orders were over 50 items. Add to that the staff was smaller as some were not comfortable coming to work. I personally would not want to work at either store right now. They were at least a week behind at the one store and that was before they went to only curbside pickup. Our stores are totally shut down now and they cancelled all the orders because who knows when they will reopen. I hate to order online normally because it always takes at least 2 weeks for me to receive an order. When I read someone received their order in a matter of days it made my eyes open wide. Maybe they have brought in extra staffing for the warehouse. I cannot wait until the stores are able to reopen edit to add: I almost wish they would simply cancel pickup orders to save all involved the stress and headache that seems associated with it currently but then again, it sounds like it varies from city to city or maybe state to state. At the very least it is time for them to put out a message stating the reasons for the slowdown. Not everyone is in the know.

I put in a curbside pick up order which took over a week to process. I needed interfacing and they've been sold out online for weeks as more and more people have been making masks in addition to crafters who suddenly find themselves with time on their hands. Otherwise I would have just had it shipped. I placed another order today as they have Pellon on sale this week, but refused to use the store pick up coupon. I'll just have them ship it and save myself the trip out there. it'll show up when it shows up.
The last time I was there, they were only letting 10 people in the store at a time, which meant standing in line for over an hour to get in. A couple of the bag groups I'm in have reported similar issues. People who work at Joanns have been commenting saying they're slammed with orders asking for patience. The stores here appear to be working about a week behind just to catch up. This was before Easter though, so with the holiday over it may be slightly better.

I've been waiting for 5 days, as well. When I called today to ask how things were going, I was told rather snippily they had 400 orders to fill and I was welcome to come to the store and pick up (shop for) the items. And no, the sale/coupon prices for the curbside order would not be good if I cancelled the order due to the prolonged time and came in to shop for the items. This is exactly why it's been over 10 years since I've shopped at Joann's. I caved because I need sewing supplies for masks and they supposedly have them, though by the time my order gets picked, who knows.
ETA Some of the fabric I wanted said it was not available to order online, but could be ordered for curbside.

Man, I wish I still had that HUGE hoard of fabric I amassed for decades back when I had my own home. I picked it up cheap, usually at garage sales, I’d be making masks, and maybe picking up some money selling fabric, ( at a fair price).
I stood in line for over an hour to buy fabric and thread yesterday at Joann’s. When I got home I looked at my receipt and realized they overcharged me, but I’m not going to bother about it. At least I can make more masks. My family and friends have already received 17 before I ran out of fabric, and my daughter’s pizza place needs more for making deliveries.

Welp….I placed an online order at the quilt shop last night and sure enough, this morning I got the email from Joanns two of my three fabrics were cancelled and one is ready to be picked up. I guess I will drive by on my way to the other shop and see how long the line is before I commit to picking it up today. Not gonna wait in a long line for just one yard of fabric...sigh....oh well, it is what it is.

These stories are crazy. How frustrating. Our Joann's is always such a mess and they have only one or two cashiers for a HUGE store. I try to avoid it unless I need to purchase fabric.

The only reason I may brave the line and go inside to pick it up is that I really need to restock on thread as well. Just cheap, basic thread...which I'm sure they are probably out of anyways. I used to have a closet full of stash. I sewed for my Etsy store. That all got lost a few years ago in the fire and I just hadn't gotten back into sewing yet. So now that I want to....I have no supplies. Gosh! I had and entire drawer full of all sorts of elastic, bins of threads, boxes of fabrics....now nada! I did find a skirt in the donate pile that has seven rows of 1/4" elastic at the waist that I can use for masks which I am lucky to have since there is none to be found.

Must be lucky, I got mine in 3 hours. But I didn’t get part of my order, the site said there were 5 black twill tapes in stock, but I didn’t get any.

I was going to order some elastic for curbside pickup, but I guess you guys just made my decision for me :/. I was surprised it was listed in stock (the Amazon estimates were more like six weeks), but it sounds like it will take a while and perhaps not be in stock after all. I just ordered some from Etsy yesterday. Hoping to get it next week.
