This is so weird! DH and I don't know what to do for Halloween this year. For probably the past 15 years or so, we'd have DH"s family over for dinner, and take turns taking our kids and the nieces and nephews trick or treating, and manning the house passing out candy. Our youngest is a freshman in high school, and the younger niece and nephew in the family are going to a friend's birthday party or something this year. ( Kinda cool, Halloween themed birthday party!)
The kids in our neighborhood are pretty much older, so I'd say 80% of the trick or treaters we get are from other neighborhoods, meaning kids and families we don't know. So we aren't DYING to stay here and pass out candy, since we won't see any familiar faces, these days, ya know? But, we're at a loss as to what to do ourselves! LOL! It's not like this is a religious or national holiday, it's just a fun neighborhood night. But it still feels kinda weird, not doing something "Halloweenish."
What do other non-trick or treatin' families do? I'm at a loss here, ha!

We're a non-trick or treater family and we'll be home handing out candy. I don't know the neighbourhood kids and I'm fine with that, I just love the whole handing out candy and see what the kids are wearing. I'll be stopping at Monastery for pasta and dessert, which is an annual tradition I started with my sister when it was her and I handing out the candy at her house. So I'd just man the door if I were you... but that is what I'll be doing so maybe I'm biased.

We just sit in our driveway (So the doorbell doesn't ring all night and drive the dog nuts) and hand out candy.

Our youngest is now too old to trick or treat and since we live in the country we don't get any trick or treaters so it'll just be a Friday night at home probably. I'm ok with that too. Halloween parties have never been really the thing around here with adults.

We don't have any trick-or-treaters in the home............haven't in a long time. I love handing out candy though and am disappointed that I can't this year. It will be a hockey night for me. I went to a Halloween party this past weekend.

We live in an area where most of the kids are grown up now so I see about 10 Trick or Treater's on Halloween ... This year, my bff is coming over and we are going to watch a double feature of The Bachelor Canada that I have recorded on the DVR (Dh will take Molly, age 11, out for candy)

We haven't had any trick or treaters in our house for about 13 years but we still give out candy/treats.
I skipped one year on a Saturday night and we went out, I felt that I had paid back for all the years my kids had gone trick or treating.
It's a work day for me and my grandson will be coming over (just to go to the neighbours) so we'll be handing out treats.

No more Trick or Treaters in our house either and we don't get any Trick or Treaters where we live so far out. Now we just have chili and all the fixings and watch Halloween movies!

No trick or treaters in my house either, not for years. But fortunately we live in a very Halloweeny neighborhood, because I love Halloween. We have the only privately-owned park in the county (owned by the community association, and we are NOT an HOA) so we can do what we want with the park. So at Halloween we serve cider and donuts, and have a huge bonfire. Just about all the houses in the neighborhood hand out candy, then I have a friend who has an open house. And she lives on a street that goes even more all-out than the rest of the neighborhood. On her street are two haunted houses that you can walk through, plus everyone else decorates very elaborately.
My ds has been helping at one of the haunted houses for years so he'll probably do that. (the owner feeds all helpers with pots of chili, cornbread, and of course candy, so that was the draw for ds years ago, lol) I'll hand out candy for an hour or so, then go up to the bonfire, stay there for a bit, then walk up to the open house. Sometime this afternoon I'll drive up to the open house and park on the next street over, then walk home. That way I don't have to walk home later after the open house, when it's dark and I'm tired.

I sit on the front porch with a nice mug of hot spiced cider and hand out candy. We usually have a nice big batch of t-or-t-ers in our neighborhood.

We don't have any little ones here anymore, either. Our 14 year old granddaughter wants to come over to pass out candy. However, I'm not so sure how many TOTers we'll see. The forecast says it will be about 34 degrees late Friday afternoon/early evening. Glad I won't be out walking around the neighborhood!

We usually just hand out candy, but this year we are having company. My mom and daughter will be here. We have invited some friends who live out in the country for tacos and then their children can trick or treat in the neighborhood. A niece and her children are also coming. We'll still hand out candy. We will decorate and we have halloween music to play and spooky sounds.

We live in the country, so no trick or treaters and the boys are "too old" for it, so we found a skatepark costume contest and competition to go to this year. Should be a blast seeing all the skate kids dressed up and rolling around!

We never had kids but we always do something fun for Halloween. Most of the people on our street are empty nesters so it's not like our neighborhood has anything to stay home for.
One year we took a ghost tour, one year we went to a community theater stage production of "Dracula", one year we went to a charity Witches' Ball, one year we did a masquerade themed murder mystery at a restaurant, and this year we're taking a "haunted harbor" boat tour.

My kids are grown and moved away, so it's just DH and I. And this year, we have a dog. The dog will go batshit crazy every time the doorbell rings and it's too cold to sit outside all night, so DH is dressing up Riker in his batman costume, and taking him for a very long walk.
I will stay home and give out candy. Even though the kids are years past trick or treating, I do like seeing the excited little kids coming around, and seeing the inventive costumes.
I finished stuffing the halloween treat bags tonight. Lots of goodies in them!!!

I wanna hang out at monklady123's neighborhood....how FUN! We LOVE to give out candy, with our doggies all dressed up---We are always aware that some children/ even adults are NOT fond of doggies, so whenever we open the door, I give out candy while hubbs holds them back in their harnesses, keeping them a few feet from everyone. RARELY is a child afraid; and if so, of course, hubbs takes them out of sight. MOST of the kiddies and their parents oooh and awwww over them and want to pet / play them...it's very fun! We have people that'll say "oh YEA...this is the house with the BULLDOGS!!!!" One bummer---we used to get LOTS of trick or treaters, now it's down to about 10

Since the amount of kiddos that come to our house has dwindled sooo much ,and we aren't invited to any parties, my gal pals and I might have a "Ghoul's Night" with these drinks that I think are SOOO cool looking! I made 'em a few years ago, and could NOT find those fun vampire teeth ANYYwhere (except online, and it was too late!)....so I made 'em out of cardstock....hee hee

We get very few trick or treaters - the neighborhood kids are all grown up now, and it just isn't the same anymore!
Some years we go to the movies and to dinner - this year we're going to use our Disney passes and hit Food and Wine Festival at Epcot... grown up trick or treating!

Carol T----that sounds fun! I went ahead and bought 4 bags--- Kit Kats, Butterfingers, Baby Ruths, and Reese's ---JUST IN CASE! Maybe it'll be like several years ago when we'd get about 100 kiddies instead of less than ten If we don't get many, I'm going to try and not eat it all---LOL----and donate it to the Children's Shelter where I volunteer.......

We have no trick or treaters in our house this year, either...the first time in MANY years. We're planning on having pizza and binge watching scary movies, starting with Halloween (my favorite!). That's about it for us tonight.

We don't get trick or treaters (think of a curvy, hilly Connecticut back road with stone fences and 2 acre lots - not safe.)
My 16 year old and I are going to see the National Theatre's Live in HD production of "Frankenstein" at our local playhouse. 12 year old is going out with friends to a safer neighborhood.

Well we have trick or treaters but they did their trick or treating last week at my dh's workplace. They got more than 15 lbs of candy between the 3 of them and a few years ago, we collectively decided that if we go to his work to trick or treat, we're not going OUT trick or treating.
So this year, we're taking the kids out to dinner somewhere during trick or treating hours. I want to hit a couple of consignment stores close to where we'll be eating too. So it'll be a quiet night here. I think we may come home and watch Mr. Peabody & Sherman with the kids too.

Here ds isn't dressing up or tot'ing, dd is going tot'ing with some friends by a friend's house, so dh and I are going to the show to see Night Crawler.
I have tons of candy to hand out we'll probably get stuck with, but the weather is supposed to be really crappy here anyway--rain/snow and in the 40's, so we probably wouldn't have a lot of door bell ringers.
