Loop the ear elastics around a couple of pegs in the dishwasher, so it’s held open, and run it through with your dishes. Just make sure the heat dry is turned off so you don’t bake your elastic....
That’s saved me roughly 92735180 loads of laundry/sink washing.

I don't know. I really hate drying the few dishes that are still wet after the heated dry. I wouldn't want to dry an entire load. I know I could leave them until they dry on their own but I hate having clean dishes sitting in the dishwasher. I'm making masks now for ds and I'm going to make a few extras so we don't have to wash them as often.

That is a good idea, especially if you have a Bosch- they dont have heated dry

Also if you have the paper masks that can’t be washed you can give the a good spray on both sides with hydrogen peroxide and hang to dry for another use.

In a pinch, a hot steam iron can rehabilitate a mask for another wearing.

I have 4 masks for myself. I just throw one in a laundry bag when I get home, and it gets washed with the next load of laundry. I am not doing special loads but I also have multiple masks.

DH has labeled N95 masks he wears once a week. We are hoping any virus that got through his cloth masks is dead by the time he rewears it 7 days later. But will keep that in mind. Are we certain the solution doesn’t break down the paper?

Are we certain the solution doesn’t break down the paper? I got that info from the CDC and did it twice so far to reuse. No breakdown. They were selling the paper masks at CVS for $1 so picked up a couple to alternate with the bandanas and the sewn ones from a Pea. Helps to cut down on laundry loads. 😂😂

I've hand washed mine. I also got lazy and sprayed it down with Lysol to a point where I was inhaling Lysol fumes 😂
The next time I go to the store or the dollar store, I'm getting a small lingerie bag to wash them.

1. I am running a full dishwasher of dishes at least once a day these days, so no room for masks, and 2. We only go out to a place where you would need a mask like once a week, so there's not a ton of washing going on, and 3. A quick handwash in the sink with soap and then leaving them to dry in the sun is really easy.

We each have a few masks so I just hand wash them in hot water and hang to dry. They dry very quickly.

everyone In my house is working between 4-6 days a week. There’s a lot of mask washing and not a ton of time to do laundry. We all have enough clothes to get us through our work week but not enough masks to wait for our day off to do laundry.
Working on some more masks tomorrow though.

I would think washing a cloth mask in the dishwasher with dirty dishes would be kind of icky, wouldn't food particles get stuck to it?

I've made several for each of us, so I just put in laundry bags and wash/dry in the washer and dryer. I do a steam press with iron and they are good to go.
