We purchased one just when the SIP was announced. I like to walk and do Pilates and basically avoid sweating , but I have to admit I'm kind of hooked. It took me a couple weeks as I have never in my life done a spin class and to be honest, I couldn't even clip my shoes off the pedal and had to remove my shoes just to get out. But now I look forward to it everyday. I'm more motivated by the playlists than by what ride it is, but I am sure enjoying this so much more than I thought I would. My username is #SomeMadHope20, care to share yours?

Not a peloton user but I've been tempted during the lockdown. I miss the gym so much! I'm curious -did you take spin classes before or were you new to all this?

I have one, but I wish I had your enthusiasm! I don’t ride it as much as I should.

#craftymomof4 here! I love mine. I have had it since January 2019 and I had never taken a spin class before we got it (but had done some outdoor road biking). I hit 476 rides yesterday (900 workouts total). I am admittedly not a music person, so ride type or instructor dictated what classes I picked before last summer. Then I found Power Zone Training and I am addicted. I find it very interesting how everyone has very different tastes in instructors. With power zone I am mainly riding with Matt Wilpers. But I also like Denis, Christine, and Jen Sherman.

I don’t like spin biking, but if I had the money, I’d buy the treadmill in a heartbeat.

I too bought a spin bike at the beginning of the lockdown but went with a less expensive one than Peloton because I wasn't convinced that I'd stick with this after I could go back to the gym. I have been using the Peloton app for my workouts, though. Fast forward to today, and I'm sort of addicted. I definitely think I'll keep doing it even once the gyms open back up. I've never been able to be consistent about working out at home before, but I've stuck with this. The strength workouts are good too. Cody's my favorite instructor and I love any Hills and HIIT ride.

I made the goal to ride every day in April and hit 385 miles for the month, which isn't as much as lots of people, but my best month before that was January with 300 rides. Find your "tribe" the new hashtags make finding people to ride with easier. There are tons of great facebook groups that are super supportive and run fun challenges and do group rides.

I actually hate going to the gym and hate seeing people at the gym, but never been too motivated to do any any consistent workout so this seems to be exactly what I never knew I needed. beaglemom congrats on your success last month! I have not done a ride with Matt yet, but I know people really seem to like him. I tend to pick Jenn Sherman for rides because we seem to have the same taste in music. Now that I have my first full month under my belt, I'm looking to try things out of my comfort zone. I'm already calculating in my head when I'll get to my 100th ride. Bet you are already thinking about your 500th ride! busy I need to check out one of Cody's classes as well.

Just a digital app user so far, I am making do with my own treadmill and weights and that is working fine for me. I will definitely consider a bike in the future, though! I am so impressed with it and it was exactly what I was looking for! I have 2 different work gyms I use for free that are loaded with everything - I stuck to the equipment I know every time - what I needed was the instruction and motivation!

I made sure to buy a bike with a good, stable place to put a tablet (I use my iPad Pro for my screen). Then I run the Peloton app on my iPad and stream the ride I want to do. There's a small screen on the bike that gives the resistance level and the cadence (rpm) - the Peloton instructors queue you with those two numbers during the ride, so it's easy to follow along even if you're not on a Peloton. Like so: If you're on the Peloton app, rather than a Peloton bike, you don't show up on the leaderboards, but I personally don't care about that. I'm not sure what the other differences are between the experience of using the app and the bike (except the obvious of the bike itself lol).

May I ask what bike you bought and if you're happy with it? I have a Schwinn IC4. My Lagree instructor who also teaches spin, has one for her home bike and recommended it. Is a Peloton better? Probably, but I don't have any real complaints, and it was $800 vs. $2300 for a Peloton. Given I didn't know if I would like it, I'm happy with the choice. And even now, I'm not sure I'd want to spend almost 3x more for the Peloton bike. I kind of prefer having the screen decoupled from the bike... I don't want the whole bike to be rendered useless if the display goes bad. Something I didn't think I cared about when I was picking a bike, but now I'm glad I have... a place for hand weights on the bike. A lot of the Peloton classes have arm work in them too and it's waaaay better to have the weights in reach than to have to get off the bike for them. (There are plenty of classes that don't do any arms, but it's a good balance to get some in since cycling is primarily lower body.)

I've been using the Peleton app since December. I do the cycling workouts while on my elliptical and have also started doing some of the other workouts as well. When I started, I told myself that I would give it 6 months and then decide if I wanted to switch to a spin bike or keep the elliptical. I am really surprised that I have stuck with it. Like you, I don't like to sweat or work hard during workouts, but I am really enjoying the classes, the sense of community, and the instructors. I still can't decide if I should save for a bike or stick with the elliptical. beaglemom I am so impressed that you rode 300 rides in one month! How did you do that? I just made 100 last Saturday. I rarely do warm up or cool down rides, so I am typically just getting 1 in each day. I thought I was doing well but wow! You are impressive. My goal was to reach 100 before my birthday (May 16) and I reached it 3 weeks early.

That would make more sense that she had 300 miles instead of 300 rides. Lol. Although there are some people that do an insane Number of rides. Do you happen to know what the minimum inseam of the IC4 is? I was looking at these but don’t know if it would fit me since I am just under 5’.

It seems that the Sunny’s have the shortest inseam but I couldn’t find that info about the Schwinn.

Thanks for the info, Busy! We are in the market for 2 bikes I have been thinking long and hard about the Peleton vs. a less expensive bike and using the Peloton app. I also don’t care a bit about the leaderboard and don’t want a screen attached to my bike for the reason you explained.

I don’t have a Peloton but I’m an addicted user of the app ! I have the Schwinn IC4 bike and a NordicTrack tread. I do a few yoga and core classes too. I heard about the app from the Peas and have never worked out so much in my life.

I started using the peloton app in December for yoga and weights and then I bought an inexpensive bike from amazon to do the spin classes to see how I felt about them. I’d done a couple spin classes at cycle boutiques and didn’t love it but felt it was a good workout that was a viable option for mixing up my workouts since running was bothering my hips and knees. Turned out I really enjoyed the bike (also a Cody fan - proud member of the the #boocrew lol). I decided to buy the peloton and got it 4/10 and am in love. It really increased my enjoyment and desire to ride having all the metrics and a smooth ride and bigger screen vs my iPad. I could cast to the tv before but I prefer it in my face for high fives and such. I gave my old bike to my adult daughter who loves to spin but can’t because we are in stay at home orders. I’m #yogaLikeits_hot - going to follow you guys.

I have a peloton. DH bought it, so I had no input. To be honest, I would have gone for a cheaper bike and paid the $13/month for the digital app. If you buy the bike, you must then pay $40/month which in my mind is a rip off. The only difference seems to be the leader board which I’m not interested in. But we have it now, so that’s that. I like Ally Love, Leanne, Robin, Cody, and Hannah.

The peloton wouldn’t be useless if the screen died- the bikes would still Work and you could use your iPad or whatever you do with another bike. Just pointing that out. but tons of people are happy with a set up similar to busy’s - I was part of a Facebook group like this and they are great for answering different questions about the bike and getting your set up just the way you want it. I was happy with my non peloton but there were some elements I was missing and decided for me, the Peloton was the way to go.

I just follow along with the cycling workouts. Obviously, I can’t adjust things the same exact way that they do but I do feel like I get a good workout and the app helps motivate me (it keeps track of how many workouts you have, how many days you have done a peleton workout in the last 30 days, challenges, etc). I love all of the instructors that I have tried. They also have different types of workouts—cardio (such as HIIT, cardio dance, family workouts, etc), yoga, strength, meditation, outdoor, treadmill, boot camp, and so on. I originally downloaded the app to use it with my treadmill. But the first day that I tried to use the app, my treadmill died. So, I decided to try the cycling workout with the elliptical that had sat unused for years. I’ve been doing it ever since. I told myself that if I stuck with it until my birthday I would consider getting a bike of some kind. It’s almost my birthday. Part of me wants a bike but part of me is content with the set up I have now. I wish I could try a bike out somewhere to see if I feel like I’m missing out on a lot with my elliptical. I do like that I don’t have to deal with my butt hurting from the seat. I’m also really short so it sounds like that could be an issue with some bikes. But we will see. The app is $12.99 a month. They usually have a free trial. When I signed up it was a 30 day trial. They just had a 90 day trial offer but that might have just expired. I think it is well worth it.

I’m not sure what you can do if you are just an app user? Yes, you can high five on the app. On the feed under the workout/or next to the side you can see who is in the class with you (says here now I think) there is a handprint next to their name- touch it and it “high fives” them. There is also a “feed” view where you can see who high fives you back, who high-fived you, and milestones people are having 100 ride, 10 day streak, etc. I do know that on the cycle rides, peloton users don’t see the app users to be able to high five you unless you high five them- then they get that notification and can high five you back. for the other things like yoga and weights everyone is on the app so everyone sees everyone whether you have a peloton or are an app user.

But 32 of those were part of a challenge - Tour de Peloton. You do one ride from each of the 32 instructors, most have a 5 minute ride, but there are a couple that have 10 as their shortest and Christian Van de Velde's shortest is 30 minutes. My other 28 rides were mostly 45 or 60 minute. Congrats on 100 rides!!

I think you deserve a prize -most people I know could probably come up with one song he sings, but never the name of his album. I've bookmarked a few rides with his songs :-P @iamkristenl16 Congrats are 100 rides. I think it’s awesome you’ve been able to modify the ride on an elliptical.
