DH was checking out and halfway through the groceries being scanned, the cashier pulled her mask down and sneezed into her hands and then put her mask back on and just kept scanning groceries ... ugh...DH wiped down all the groceries. Wonder if the cashiers do not have hand sanitizer or wipes? This was at Safeway in Denver.

blech! I have been using self checkout where I can, but sometimes it just isn't practical when you have a lot of items.

I'm not a germaphobe but that totally would've grossed me out; reason 101 why I use self checkout or scan & shop regardless of how many items I have.

That would have bugged me long before I’d ever heard of Covid. I would have asked her to go and wash her hands—not just use hand sanitizer. I would have waited for the hand washing. (And I’ve done it in the past).

Funny, I was just wondering what you are supposed to do if you need to sneeze while wearing a mask.

I wrote about this before, but many years ago I saw another checker sneeze, have snot come out, and he wiped it away with his hands and continued on with his transaction. I don’t know why the lady didn’t just cancel everything. I would have!

I think I would have turned around and left the store!

I would have immediately stepped back and either asked her to stop or call a manager over to address it.
Totally unacceptable and I would have never taken the groceries.
Stores have closed down to sanitize and throw away products that people (pretending) to have the virus have coughed on.

The store I shopped this week isn't one of my regular stores, but it is one I have been to before a few times. The self checkouts are hyper sensitive. You can't remove any bags from the bagging area until you pay, or it locks up and summons a clerk. You can't open up a paper bag and put it in the bagging area or it locks up and summons a clerk. So if you have more items than will fit in one plastic bag, which I did, you will end up with a clerk coming right over to you, maybe repeatedly. I felt like that was riskier than a clerk behind a plexiglass shield touching everything, since I do wipe the groceries down when I get home.

That's the reason I've opted to stick with Meijer (where I scan & bag my stuff as I go) or Walmart where they have the bigger self checkouts and they're not as fussy.

Yeah, between the self checkout situation and the floor arrows that tried to force me into the bathrooms, I'm not in a hurry to go back to that store.
