So why do stores (online) have BIG sales, and then another one, and another one... etc... when they say right on their site that they are having issues with deliveries, shipping, etc. because of this or that or some other reason!? Mostly Covid related at the moment. We ordered from Old Navy (3 prs of pants, not even a big order) on 4/17 (what is it about that date and not getting my orders? lol). I got a shipping confirmation, they were supposed to be delivered on the 21st. Ok, cool. I looked on the 21st to see if they were still on time. Nope! They are "working on shipping it as soon as possible". I get that... delays, shipping, whatever... but WHY do they keep having sales if they can't even fulfill the orders that they already have!? Redundant questions... I just needed to vent! Back to your regularly schedule NSBR postings...

but WHY do they keep having sales if they can't even fulfill the orders that they already have!? I second this, about 1) JoAnn's and 2) the airlines. I am getting so many emails for sales, got a TON of coupons in the mail for JA "in store", and ummmmm what? We can't even go in the store. I don't understand why they are advertising all the stuff that they can't make good on. And then I get all these emails, "flights to the Caribbean, 129.00 each way!" What?? We're not supposed to do that I thought? Also, right now places are closed to tourism, like St. John. So what gives? How are people traveling? Are they? Mind, this isn't for 6 months from now, this is for like next week.

I had the same issues with Old Navy. I received one of the 6 items I ordered followed by an email stating the they were having issues with shipping the rest. I am still being bombarded with 5 or 6 sales emails from them daily.

Mel Many marketing campaigns are designed months in advance. So, the "sale" that you were buying from was probably designed in January or within 6 months, as the retail marketplace is usually at least 6 months in advance of actual dates. This is why they are having BIG Sales advertised as it is hard to pull down a marketing campaign nationally. Also the stores want you to continue to desire the product that they carry and remember their name, as the economy is what it is right now. Everything is in disruption right now, starting from the source of the product, making the product and then shipping. Remember that China was closed down completely for several weeks and it was difficult for some companies to start up their production lines. Add into this that there were closed borders, shipping containers ended up being held up for many reasons and now distribution is influx. Sorry if this sounds like a word salad. They can quickly add onto a website about the problems about shipping & lack of stock because some of the stock may possibly be on a shipping container that hasn't been unloaded and distributed due to many issues resulting from Covid-19. I do think that most retail is now looking at Hallowe'en and Christmas and how this will be different (?) from the past years.

So what gives? How are people traveling? Are they? Mind, this isn't for 6 months from now, this is for like next week. People aren't supposed to be traveling, but some are. I read a very satisfying article about Hawaii this morning, where tourists are being arrested for not quarantining for 14 days upon arrival. The hotels are very serious about making sure the guests are compliant. People who left their rooms to pick up food, use the pool, etc. were arrested. A quote in the article said that people coming to the island didn't care about the health of the residents and were only coming to take advantage of cheap travel. Cheap travel isn't such a great deal when you can't do anything at your destination except sit in your room.

I know that old Navy is farming out online orders to their stores. If they're having troubles, it's probably staffing and stock at the store they sent the order to. A SIL is a manager at Old Navy and she says they've had to send partial orders out, send the unfilled part to another store. If they can't fill it, it gets sent to another store and so forth. They're trying to stay regional but that doesn't always happen. They are supposed to fill the whole order if possible.

My old navy order took forever. Its not the end of the world but it was annoying because it gave me a date when it should arrive. Then after I placed the order I quickly got the your order will be delayed and it was delayed a week and a half at least. Like I said it wasn't a big deal but I wish they would have just put the real approximate date when I ordered.

I ordered some pants from old navy on April 20 or 21. I just got a shipping notice yesterday. It is supposed to be here on the 15th now.

I've heard so many bad things about Old Navy shipping right now. I'm glad I haven't shopped there in a couple of years or I would have been tempted to look at the sales they had. A friend of mine ordered on 4/10 and still doesn't have a shipping notice.
I think stores are using the big sales right now to try to sell what they can since the stores are closed but they placed orders for this seasons clothes months ago. So they are just sitting on inventory. You have to try to move it somehow! Personally I don't mind the longer shipping times as long as the store is up front about it.
