Our state has recently allowed hair stylists to reopen. Mine texted me on Monday saying she was reopening and to book soon because the slots will fill up quickly. I'm not sure about that...
She is at Phenix Suites so she has a room (maybe 10 x 10) to herself and only one client is there at a time. It's not the type of salon with a waiting room, etc.
She said she will book appointments so she can clean between them (15 minutes) and then we will wait in our car until she texts us to come in.
Have you/would you do this? I'm 10 weeks plus without a cut/color...

I'd love to. But I think it's gonna be a while before that happens here.

My stylist actually texted me this morning. They have been told by the state they can go back to work June 1st so she is setting up appointments. She is by herself in the room and said she is blocking out an hour between each client to clean and wipe everything down. She is also wearing a mask and has disposable masks for us to wear.
I feel comfortable going back.

Ours are opening back up today actually. My gal messaged me, they are only allowing one person at a time in. She has a very small salon only a couple girls there. But it’s a really nice quaint place. We have to message her when we get there and wait in the car until she’s ready. Upon entering you will be given hand sanitizer, we have to wear a mask and they will also. They are cleaning and sanitizing between clients. They also have you sign a covid 19 waiver. I have not made an appt yet. But I appreciate the update to what they are doing. I understand they need to get back to work. I’m in no hurry.

Our salons were allowed to open up and DS both got our hair cut (and me a color) last week. It was only us and our stylist. She was allowing extra time between appointments to disinfect. I honestly felt perfectly safe.

In my situation, I may consider it. My hairstylist works out of her home basement and has a very limited clientele, only a couple clients a week, if that. This is her side job, she works full-time and has 2 children under 2. She is currently working from home for her full-time job (works for the same employer as I do, different department/building). On top of that, she has posted that she is currently allowed to open her notary services, but is choosing not to do so yet for the safety of her family. Since she cut back on her clients after having her first child, I have been the only client on the day of my appt.
With all of those considerations above, I would feel much safer going to her shop when she re-opens than I would a normal stylist situation. She was on maternity leave when we went into Stay at Home, so I'm concerned she may decide not to re-open, or at least not open anytime soon after the Governor allows salons to open. She has a full plate and I am aware something may have to give.

I'll be booking an appointment as soon as they open. I'll wear a mask as will the hairstylist. I honestly feel like it'll be safer than the grocery store.

I don't know how you would prove they didn't clean, but I don't think I would go if I have to sign a waiver.

Nope. My stylist is part of a large salon, huge open space, no division between stations. I don’t see what they could possibly do to make it safe. I may consider going someplace else but I have trust issues with other stylists. Too many bad haircuts, lol.

My salon opens tomorrow, they called me this morning to see if I wanted to book. The first appointment available for my stylist is next Friday, May 22, at 3:30. I have very short hair and it has been about 12 weeks since my last cut and I would be there tomorrow if it was available. I have to text when I arrive and they will text back when I can go in. I will have to sanitize my hands, get my temp taken, and fill out a short health quiz. I will have to wear a mask which they will provide if necessary, stylists will wear gloves and masks. They also ask that clients leave their purses at home or in the car.
The county I live in has 530,000 population and 468 cases of Covid-19 and new cases have been declining and I am willing to take the risk which I believe to be very small.

Our salons are supposed to open back up May 25. I have an already scheduled appointment that I intend to keep on May 27. My stylist only has one other person in her shop and there is plenty of room for social distancing between the two stylists. I trust her to clean appropriately. She has posted several times on Facebook that part of the requirements are to wear a facemask and she is insisting that all clients do so.

yes! my hairstylist works in a suite of individual (fully-enclosed) rooms also... my last appointment was supposed to have been a couple weeks ago, and she rescheduled to next week. I'm going... I feel safer with her, knowing her level of attention to detail, than I would in a lot of places out and about. She's also personally very concerned about her own health and safety, so I know she'll take all the precautions she can, above and beyond the ones she already has to take to be licensed.
I've already trimmed my bangs once, and I can't go much longer without the possibility of doing something disastrous to my hair, lol.

I went and had my waxing done. We both wore masks. My husband is planning on getting his haircut today. I'm debating what to do with mine. I have long layers and it's very forgiving, but I've gone much, much longer than typical even for me. I'm debating chopping it off, but than wondering if that's stupid not knowing if salons will shut down again and I'll be left with a more high maintenance style.

Our county has no date to reopen yet. I have a simple straight style, but I do color my hair. I've been wanting to let my natural color come out, so this has been the time to do it. I am liking it so far, so I don't know when I'll go back when my stylist does open.

I went on Monday and was happy with how they are handling the situation. The salon is an old bungalow. Each stylist has their own room, and only one client at a time (no overlap of appointments). The stylist did the shampooing herself, so no extra person to interact with. You wait outside until they come and get you, so no one is waiting around inside. They even redecorated during the closure, getting rid of lots of furniture and fixtures. The waiting area was moved to a smaller enclosed porch and now has one chair. Before it was in a larger room with a sofa, 3 chairs and some tables. Less to hold germs, etc and easier for them to sterilize.
You just have to look at your individual situation and do what you feel is right for you. Good luck!

My state opened up hair salons last week but I'm not comfortable with going yet. I am waiting until at least June 1 to go to see if there's any fallout from opening quickly.

I went yesterday for hi-lites and cut, I've had the appointment scheduled since March. The salons were allowed to open this week. The salon has many stylists, only 2 were working at the start of my early appointment. Everyone wore masks, hand sanitizers were at every station. It was by appointment only, no walk-ins. Every chair was sanitized before a client could sit. I had to change chairs, each time the chair was cleaned. Each station had a tray on wheels to hold their products, combs, etc, as clients were all facing toward the mirror, they were not supposed to twirl the chairs around. I felt it was cleaner than going to the grocery store, the only other place I've been since March. My grandson's graduation ceremony from Law School was suppose to be Sunday, of course, it was cancelled. '

I wish but our salons/barber shops are only allowed to be open for essential workers, how they're policing that is beyond me.

I have an appointment next week. My stylist has her own room with only one chair. It's quite a procedure: Wait in your car till she texts you Wash your hands before you see her (no other use of the bathroom is permitted)
Wear a mask (both customer and stylist) Most routine haircuts will not include blow dry and style
She allows 20 mins in between each client to clean the area
I'm very happy to finally get a haircut and feel very safe. My county continues to see both hospitalizations and new cases go down.

Next week but she owns her own salon. It’s always just been me and her during my appointment so nothing will change but we’re both wearing masks.
If she shared a salon, I definitely would wait longer.

My hairstylist transitioned to house calls before shelter in place began but I will continue to skip appointments for now. She risks losing her license if she’s caught doing house calls until salons are open in California.

I went Tuesday. Short hair is not meant for lengthy quarantine. I instantly felt better. Nothing fussy about my hair though so I go to a chain. They sent out emails about a week or so ago with an opening date and we could book appointments. No walk ins at this time. Two stylists, one on each side of the shop at different ends. Customers only allowed inside unless it’s a little kid, Everyone wears a mask at all times. You can’t go inside until your appointment times so they put chairs outside or you wait in the car until they come out. Wash, cut and roots only. They will not use blow dryers.

I would but I'm not sure if she'd be comfortable. She knows I am a nurse so she might be concerned. I don't blame her if she is. Wearing a mask is a little hard to do when you're getting your hair colored but I'd certainly be willing.
I used *gasp* box color a couple weeks ago so I'm good for a little bit but I think I'll just text her and ask how she feels. I wouldn't want her to feel obligated though. Kind of a dilemma. She might say yes just because she's worried about offending me and doesn't want to lose a client.

Ours are open as of today. I have an appointment Monday afternoon. It’s so badly needed. I have 1-1/2” gray hair that has grown into my nearly black hair since the last time I saw her. Thank god for working from home and root spray!
My stylists has been great at rescheduling clients as the dates have changed.

Well my sister in law was my stylist and I normally went every 4 months for a haircut and highlight and normally trimmed my own bangs in-between appointments. She let me know last week that she is retiring now and won't be going back due to an injury. I'm very sorry to hear about her injury but O.M.G. its been 6 months since my last highlight and now I don't even have a stylist to get in to, much less be able to worry about if it is safe there. ACK!
