Our new dishwasher is FINALLY being delivered tomorrow!
My joy is not because oh, I am getting something new, but because our old one broke the second week of April and we have been washing dishes by hand ever since. It has been 20 years since I lived without a dishwasher for a time, although it was much easier then with a toddler and a breastfeeding infant.
Now with both kids home from college for the spring and cooking all of our meals at home it has been a challenge. Thank goodness for paper plates.
This just makes me marvel all the more at women of my grandmother and mother's generations who cooked three hot meals a day and cleaned the kitchen after each, all without the modern conveniences we have today. (Mom got married in 1949 and didn't get an electric dryer until 1956 and it was 1967 before she had a dishwasher. She got her first microwave in 1981. Spoiled, I am.)
When the dishwasher broke everyone was in the midst of SIP so DH had me look for one I liked online, but I refused to order one sight unseen. So I picked the one I really liked and we went to Lowes first thing one morning in our masks, didn't go anywhere near anyone and did not touch anything except the door of the machine I was interested in. Once I decided that it was the one I wanted, we left without touching anything, looking at anything else, and without speaking to anyone.
Of course that model was out of stock, so I assumed that meant it was out of stock at that store and they would be able to send one from the warehouse. I was mistaken. Out of stock meant that they had to get it from the manufacturer, which at that point many manufacturers were prioritizing ventilators etc, so we have had to wait. (Sometimes not so patiently, but we are trying.)
I don't know who is happier that it is getting here tomorrow, me or DS (20) who has been incredibly helpful and will wash the dishes in the sink without being asked and will put them away as well.
Now if DH can channel his inner Bob Villa.
UPDATE: M-effer I spoke too soon. DH just came home and said he got a call from Lowes. They are not delivering tomorrow. It is going to be another TWO WEEKS before it will be in. I thought DS was going to cry.
If any of the Peas that enjoy a sink full of hot water and suds want to stop by, that would be fine with me. I am fine with washing a few dishes by hand, but not the volume that this family produces.
And to put a cherry on top of my day, the power just went out while DD was cooking dinner. So now we are sitting here hungry in the semi darkness waiting for the storms to hit.
2020 just sucks all the way around.
