I always loved Brach's Pick-a Mix candies, especially the jelly nougats. Getting to pick out a few candies in a paper bag was the highlight of going to the Ben Franklin store with my mom.
I've looked for jelly nougats several times, and they have them at that site! So thanks!

I was in Denver last week and we past a Rocket Fizz. I love going in there and seeing all of the old candy. We have one in town, but never drive past it, so I forget to stop in. We have a Rocket Fizz here, too, and it’s fun to browse all the fun candies. Plus, they sell just about every soda flavor ever made.

gillyp , do you know if you can still get Oddfellows? 😊 There are some bags hanging up in the shop! PM me your address and I’ll send you some when I next go down. We are shut for lockdown but I go down every week for the mail. I’ve just seen you like Soor Plooms, Cola Cubes and sweet peanuts. I have those too, I think. Would you like some? Oh, if only you could see my little happy dance! I've sent you a PM.

E&A Candies in Lancaster County Pennsylvania makes many old fashioned candies. I love clear toy, an old sugar candy you suck on. We always get it at Christmas, and it is a very old tradition in candy making.

This thread is making me salivate! Anyone else love BUN candy and/or Fifth Avenue bars? How about those small, colorful dots on long sheets of paper? I also liked the small wax bottles filled with sugary juice. I always loved Brach's Pick-a Mix candies, especially the jelly nougats. Getting to pick out a few candies in a paper bag was the highlight of going to the Ben Franklin store with my mom. Ohhh, I'd forgotten about those---I LOVED them, too. Annnd, now I'm tempted to go to that website, but I'm afraid I'd overdo it I also loved "Ben Franklin" stores! Thanks for reminding me of happy childhood memories.

I liked Marathon bars and Jolly Rancher Fire Stix (and to a lesser extent, watermelon or green apple stix). We tried to get them down to a wafer thin and sharp slab 😀 My grandmother also used to send us Pop Rocks from Oregon since you couldn't buy them in California when they first came out (dont know why).

Because if you ate Pop Rocks and drank a soda you would TOTALLY die. Duh! Obviously I am kidding, but that rumor went around forever! That was supposedly how Mikey from the Life commercials died.

There's a place not too far from me that still sells Charleston Chews. I love to eat them frozen. Walgreens. I get them at Walgreens. I like the mini ones in the theater box, too. Great snap when frozen. Walgreens also sells DD's (and my) other fave- The Chunky. Can't find those so many places anymore. Easter and Christmas I have to head to Walgreens to get both of those for baskets and stockings. I had forgotten about them! They were my every once in a while favorites. I liked them a lot but not all the time, if that makes sense. Small doses. I could go for some right now. Before I read, the two candies that came to mind was the Slow Poke (long slender caramel sucker wrapped in waxed paper) and Jaw Breakers by Ferrara Pan in the green box. I liked a lot of candy but I think these were my faves because they lasted longer so more bang for my pennies. I used to ride my bike down to little store on the lake to get them when I had money. Oh, and candy cigarettes because sugar! and silly! win/win. I distinctly remember when they changed the box of Jaw Breakers probably for cost and quicker manufacturing. They got rid of the clear cellophane window that let you peek inside for a preview. I always looked to find the one with more red and purples so I couldn't do that anymore. And to top it off, they changed the box ends from the fold in and tuck type to the straight edge fold and glue. That made the empty boxes no longer good to whistle through by blowing in the open end. Wow! funny how this thread triggered that memory. Obviously I'm still upset. That little store also had gas pumps out front. One day as I coasted down the, hill I saw little red convertible getting gas. It was a bit wet and I thought they must have just washed their car UNTIL they made a hard left, drove straight across the road, into the lake and putted away! My jaw dropped at my first introduction to an aqua car. Thanks for the triggered memories, OP.

Worth every penny. Please let me know when you start s elling please gillyp as I would like a few thing for family treats. I usually get a yearly Tablet fix from a friends relative who visits and this year I am out of luck. I have Oddfellows and Tablet iirc. Mass produced tablet, that is, I won’t have the hand made tablet until we are open again as it has a short shelf life. I also have tablet ice cream which is a favourite with customers. My comment about selling online was a wry exclamation. . I’m happy to send you some though. Thanks for the offer, it is the handmade tablet that is my favourite, so I will have to wait until you open up shop again.

we have Zero bars at the grocery store where I work(they get tossed all the time though because they go out of date, no one buys them), I think we have the fireballs too in the aisle but they may be different, and the Dollar Generals around here have candy cigarrettes heck they may have others..and Pixie sticks are still around too.. so you may can get one of each of those without ordering online ..

Oh such wonderful memories. Thank you so much Peano for reminding me of this wonderful site. I've never ordered for this site but I've had such fun remembering old childhood favorites and I do plan to place an order one day. Has anyone else ordered from this site and were you happy with the products you ordered? It's such fun to go through the site and remember your old childhood favorites. When I was 12-15 years old we lived in a very small town called Haymarket, Virginia in 1972-1975. I'm sure it's built up quite a bit since then, but back then it was a very small town. We had a mini-farm in an old farmhouse near the train tracks, and I'd walk about 1/2 a mile (it seemed at the time, who knows how far it actually was) to an old fashioned tiny grocery store. Sometimes I'd even ride my Shetland pony and tie him up outside while I went in. I'd spend part of my allowance on my favorite candy-Sweetarts were a big favorite of mine. I love sour flavors like lemon. I thought I remembered liking the Zagnut bar but after looking through the candy on this site it was actually the Zero bar that I liked. I also remember getting Clove gum and lots of other favorites-I just starting looking over this site so I'm sure I'll find more. What a sweet memory. You’re the next Anne with an E for sure!

Scrolling down to see if any other Aussies have posted yet, because I haven't heard of most of the lollies that everyone else has mentioned! One of my favourite things when I was a child was going to the milk bar to buy 20 cents of mixed lollies. Most lollies were 1 cent each or two for 1 cent. You could get a big bag for 20 cents. Some of my favourites were Mates, Choo Choo Bars, White Knight, aniseed balls, Freckles, choc buds (white, dark, milk and caramel), milk bottles, mint leaves, Jaffas, lolly bananas, musk sticks, Sherbies, Wizz Fizz, Red Skins, Milkos, Fags*, Big Boss Cigar, snakes, lolly teeth, Fantales, Minties.... I was very excited a couple of months ago to find that you can now buy a big bag of Sherbies, Milkos and Red Skins. *Fags were lolly cigarettes - white sticks with a red tip to make it look like a cigarette. "Fag" is slang for cigarette here, and I think the UK too. And yes, it's also slang for a gay male. By the time my kids were born, they had changed the name of that particular lolly to "Fads" and had removed the red tip so they didn't resemble a cigarette.

Well just so we English/Scottish/Welsh and Irish can join in I have put a link to a site that sells sweets from our youth. They usually deliver overseas but not at the moment. I used to love anything with sherbet. Also Jelly Babies and pear drops. Have always been a chocoholic at heart though. Anyone remember Cello bars from the 80s? www.aquarterof.co.uk/Thanks - that’s my afternoon taken up! 😉

You are quite right and they were known as Sweet Cigarettes for a long time. Now they are candy sticks and no where near as nice. I’ll gloss over the fact Aussie’s don’t know the difference between a lolly and a sweet. U.K. peas, if there’s something in particular you fancy and can’t find, give me a shout and I’ll let you know if they are still available/source for you.

You can also get/send candy from these small businesses I had or sent stuff from each of these with no complaints. Black river has some stuff that’s hard to find elsewhere, at least in person, I stop when I get out that way for work. www.economycandy.com/www.blackrivercandyshoppe.com/www.dbchocolate.com/And when it’s safe to open again, since traveling to the NJ shore might not be in the cards this summer, you might want to buy a little piece of the NJ shore to be sent to you. Salt water taffy. Ah the childhood memories. Here you can get the iconic boxes of taffy that are sold along boardwalks. I used to be mesmerized watching the taffy pulling machine in its plastic box. www.jamescandy.com/ When work allows, I like to stop in here for a little piece of memory ( taffy ) she has some unique taffy flavors and I can pick & choose those that seem enticing, not sure how that will work with the pandemic but they do have phone orders. I sure hope they survive the pandemic www.traceyscandyshoppe.com/

One treat I remember liking was chocolate babies. I think they were the texture of candy corn, but a little less waxy. I did a search for them a while back and got the impression they were discontinued because they were racially insensitive. I remember those and getting them at Woolworth. Now that mall is super fancy and no more Woolworth or chocolate babies.
