Welcome to the new week. What is everyone doing today? It's a quiet Memorial Day for us. I'm going to find something fun around here and just relax. The guys are having a big takeout lunch, so dinner will be fend.
What's on your menu?
It's time to brag about yourselves this week. Let's have a re-do and a chance to feel good about ourselves. I'm a decent baker. Both my mother and mother-in-law were wonderful bakers and I've learned from two greats. People love my treats. Christmas cookies are a huge hit. My custard puffs are yummy. The list goes on. Baking is therapy. It feels good to watch someone enjoy a special dessert.
Enjoy your week tribe. Bring on the self-love. Who's next?

Hello scrapmaven I'm on day 3 of my four day weekend. I had bad luck last night. On the highway on my way home last night I hit a deer. I'm fine. I was able to keep control of my car. But I was going 75 mph. So my car looks pretty bad. We dropped it right off at the body shop last night as we were close to it. And I won't hear anything until tomorrow. But it's really really damaged. I hope they can fix it. My brag is that I'm a pretty fun person. I love to laugh and tease people. I tease myself. I make funnies. I'm pretty expressive when I talk. But I can totally make anything goofy. Dinner tonight is ravioli as I didn't make it last week as I said I would.

Oh no jeremysgirl. The main thing is that you're ok today, though I'm sure you're shaken up. Don't you have a fairly new car? I hope they can fix it, as well. We have deer in my area and they're very unpredictable. I can see you being funny. I'm also a goofball and love to make others laugh. It's great that you have ethat strong sense of fun. Take care of yourself today. Thank goodness you're here to tell the tale. ((((HUGS)))).

No long weekend here - we have one next weekend instead. Not that it means much right now, except that I have to remember that the shops will be shut Monday, so Saturday’s grocery shop will need to take that into account. Today has been pretty much as usual - grocery shopping, lunch, walk in the cemetery, then TV and some knitting. I have now finished all the knitting on my blue sweater, and just have to sew it up and weave in ends. Not sure what I’ll start on next.
For dinner tonight, I am trying a recipe from one of the books I got yesterday. It is called chicken Marbella and has olives, capers and dates in a marinade, and is then baked in the oven. I am going to make rice or couscous to go with it, and a salad.

My car is only a year old. I love that car too. So I hope it can be fixed.

jeremysgirl, I'm glad you are safe, especially at that speed. Hoping the best for your car.
Happy Belated Birthday sueg. I glad you were able to "see" your family.
I walked 4 miles this morning, made a marinara sauce for tonight's lasagna, and organized the bathroom closet. I found some cute baskets on Amazon, took everything out of the closet, organized all the meds and toiletries into the baskets and threw away a lot. Not only does it look great, I now know where everything is.
And that is one of my talents: I've always had a knack for decluttering and organizing.

christine58 you were right. Buying the sourdough bread makes more sense. Who am I kidding? Dinner tonight could be anything. Maybe fish?

We walked early this morning because it's going to be really hot. I keep my high school classmates informed about everyone else. We had a graduating class of about 320. I have email addresses for 165. I send out Bee Blasts several times a month ~ sometimes very lighthearted, sometimes just news but, unfortunately, the last few have been about classmates who have passed away. So I guess my *talent* is about being able to eulogize classmates with poignant memories. I know my classmates appreciate me. I'm making Chinese Chicken Salad for dinner. Too hot for the oven.

jeremysgirl so glad you’re ok. Bummer about your car. We are driving past land for sale. Dh wants a cabin. He has to be able to work from it though. I think we’ve quickly ruled out this area. It’s hilly & steep dirt roads. I’d never drive here in the rain or snow which is 75% of our weather it seems like. I knew it was a no but sometimes you just have to let others see it for themself. I’m making veggie burritos. Not sure what with it. Maybe fruit salad.

We are expecting another round of thunderstorms this afternoon so there will be no grilling out for us this Memorial Day. Dinner will be rechauffe of the pot roast dinner we had last night. DD came over and I actually set the table and pulled out some cloth napkins even! We really should do that more often. DH just came in from an errand with some Crave cupcakes, decorated for the holiday, so that will be dessert tonight. jeremysgirl - So glad you are okay. I hope you get good news about your car tomorrow. My sister had a huge buck hit her car back in Feb. Fortunately she wasn't hurt, but her 16 year old Honda was DOA. With a new car, hopefully yours has a better chance of repair. tuesdaysgone - Great job on decluttering your bathroom closet. Hope you come post on the decluttering thread! scrapmaven - Baking is fun isn't it? I'm sure yours are just delicious! sueg - Sending you belated Birthday wishes. I hope your day was fantastic! As for my talent, it would have to be sewing/quilting. Time at the sewing machine is therapy for me. I have the gift of being able to see a piece of fabric, have a vision of what it could/should be and then make it happen. Everyone who receives something I've made seems to be really happy with it.

My dad went over to the body shop for me and got some daylight pictures since he lives nearby. Here you go!

jeremysgirl - That doesn't look that bad from the photos and to the eye appears very repairable. I was envisioning what my sister had, which was the front end smooshed in a considerable distance. It looks like you clipped him with that front corner. With such a new car, I'll be surprised if they can't repair it.

Plans A and B got tossed because I'm lacking too many main ingredients to make either one happen. Dh wasn't thrilled with Plan C, so Plan D is the winner. We're having tuna cheddar pie.

jeremysgirl, as long as there is no engine damage I would think it would be repairable. When a doe T-boned us, she hit the driver's side mirror. The damage was $4000. I know some states don't allow insurance companies to charge the deductible. I hope yours is one of them, ours is not. Glad you're okay!

jeremysgirl I'm so glad you're OK, I bet that was very traumatic! We are grilling burgers and hotdogs, having store bought macaroni salad, apples with fruit dip, chips and lemonade. I am good at organizing and details. I'm a pretty good cook, too, although you wouldn't know it from the stuff I post in this thread haha!

Oooh jeremysgirl that’s always one of my fears when driving back roads here. Glad you’re okay. Hope your car will be too. Well the guys that were installing our garage beams finished last night at MIDNIGHT. THEY STARTED AROUND 1pm. So it was a long day of just kinda sitting around. But now it’s down and when the rain lets up later this week they can install our new roof without someone crashing through the ceiling. 😂 Tonight I’m doing eckridge cheddar stuffed hotdogs in the air fryer. There will be toasted buns and all the fixings. Grilling some corn on the cob and making hashbrown casserole with my favorite topping I discovered last year when I was out of chex. Everything bagel seasoned Ritz. OMG ladies. GAME CHANGER!

Hi Everyone! scrapmaven I am happy that you are having a relaxing day. jeremysgirl I am so glad that you are okay. Years ago one of my neighbors had a deer come through his windshield and just about killed him. He was only going 35 miles an hour. It’s hard to tell from the pictures about the inside damage. One of my brags is that I love people. One of my friends once told me that she couldn’t believe that we could go somewhere and I would start talking to a complete stranger and within 5 minutes I would know their entire life story. Tonight we are having steak, potatoes and onions baked in olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder along with cole slaw. I am keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

PolarGreen12 The Ritz Everything Bagel are wonderful! I just discovered them and try really hard not to eat a whole sleeve at a time. Dinner tonight will be BLTs, corn on the cob, BBQ potato chips and fruit. I'm good at getting things done - If I decide I want to do XYZ then I find a way for XYZ to happen. I'm bored with the living room setup so I rearranged the furniture, purged some things, brought in a new shelf. My screen porch needed a sofa, rug and love, so I made that happen. I currently have a large pile of large heavy rocks in my front yard that I'm moving up to be around my front patio. Please note, getting things done doesn't necessarily mean it gets done fast. But if I say I'm going to do something, I'll do it.

I don’t know what’s for dinner yet. I think the 11yo is headed back to the other house this afternoon. If not ... maybe we’ll get pizza or something. jeremysgirl, I’m so glad you’re okay. Wishing your car a full recovery. 😊 destined2bmom, I am soooo not surprised to learn you’re one of those people who makes friends with strangers out in public. That’s how my husband was, and everyone loved him.

On the highway on my way home last night I hit a deer. So glad you are okay and hoping the car is repairable. t is called chicken Marbella and has olives, capers and dates in a marinade, and is then baked in the oven. We make a version with prunes instead of dates - definitely a winter family favorite. DH came along with me on my 6 mile walk this morning which was fun because I've been wanting to show him a couple of house/landscaping ideas I like. Unfortunately he spotted a different idea that I'm not a fan of and is trying to persuade me to edge our property the same way. I walk a much faster pace than DH but he can and does pass me on every hill. The local paper had an article on the murals of La Jolla, so we loaded the kids and pup in the car and put on another 4 miles walking around La Jolla this afternoon. Dinner was a clean of the fridge night with leftover ribeye, chicken fajitas, green bean salad and mango coleslaw.

Strangers would always tell my mother their life story. She was great at giving advice and somehow they knew that. After she passed away strangers started telling me their troubles. Seriously, I can be in line somewhere and the person behind me will just start talking about their issues. I can see why you would make friends so quickly, destined2bmom. You're a truly kind and thoughtful person who has lots of compassion.
jeremysgirl, the most important thing is your safety. Cars can be repaired or replaced. That you're here is all that matters.
leannec, I'm glad that your dds are softening. It's an adjustment for everyone and they know how much you love them. It just takes a bit of time and then they come back.

bc2ca, my sister also makes chicken Marbella with prunes. It’s one of her specialties and she makes it often for family dinners, potlucks, etc. Very popular.
