I'm in Colorado....Lately the scammer calls on our land line have diminished and I enjoy the Tri-County Town Hall Covid Meetings, so I usually engage in those meetings. I've been receiving once a day calls from unnamed local numbers and sometimes I pick up... as I've got nothing much to do... OH... and I did get GOP Colorado survey call, which didn't last long as I said I was voting for Biden.........
However today was a roof scammer and I'm not quite sure if it's a roof scammer or the "YES" scam. "Mike" from Colorado First started asking me if I needed a roof inspection, they are in the area and could they set up a time. Backstory, we are in need of a roof and have gotten several quotes. I said sure, come tomorrow at 12:00 tomorrow. I indeed did say yes several times, to yes I am the homeowner, yes I have insurance..... Then looking online in Colorado there is a company called 1st Colorado roofing. I called them to see if they have heard of this company and indeed they have. I gave their 1-800 contact number and they said that they have seen this number before. So probably not legitimate...
After learning this I put in the 1-800 they gave me for their contact info into google and I found that a person in Minnesota had the same scam. The company was called Minnesota First and the roofer company never showed up... so I called the Colorado number back (the unavailable name on caller ID) to say to call me and it went to voice mail. I left my number because, hey, they already have my info.... He called me back, with a new Colorado number... I picked up and told them that I decline their inspection tomorrow and that you are not a real company. That I researched you and found that you must change your name for whatever states you are scamming, as an example with Minnesota First? And then I said to not contact me and hung up. He didn't object much during this interaction. He did say he was a legitimate company, but what would be the scam if you don't show up with a crew...There has been so many roof company scams in CO, that I'm not giving my money to some illegitimate company. We just got our house painted last week with a great company. I'm no dummy. Will they use my info for something else?
