Um, yay? I have no idea if that is good! It’s the biggest fish I’ve caught in my 4 years of fishing, so I’m happy! He broke my line while unhooking him. The fish is happily swimming back in his lake, so he is happy too. We just do catch and release.

Great catch! Glad you released it, I love to eat fish, but not a fan of catfish. Looks like a pretty day.

My neighbor (and his son) who I go fishing with have friendly competitions. The person who catches the biggest fish buys ice cream on the way home. Today was my treat.

I’ll preface this with, if that’s you in the picture... I like you elaine and value your opinion but it’s really hard to take anything you say seriously when you’re proudly wearing a redskins shirt. If you wouldn’t wear a shirt that said Washington N*****s, then why on earth would you wear one that says Washington Redskins? That is a serious question. Have white people not learned anything in the last two weeks.

Have white people not learned anything in the last two weeks. It doesn’t say “Washington Redskins.” It has the logo, but not the team name - which I hate. I purposefully selected it when we went to training camp last summer because it doesn’t have the name. I wish Dan Snyder would change the name. But thanks for actually taking the time to read the shirt before criticizing - not. Have you learned nothing about jumping to conclusions during the past 2 weeks?

They have started selling a number of items with just the logo or the logo and “Washington” without the Redskins part. I think because there are a number of people like my family who won’t buy anything that says “Redskins” written on it anymore. And this was a shirt sold at training camp, which we try to go to most summers in Richmond, but I’m guessing won’t happen this year. Only at 2Peas can a fluff thread about fishing turn into a white guilt throw down.

Time for new ones, and I’d be happy to have them not have the team name on them. And yeah. It’s peas. It should be expected. 🤪

Huge hockey family here, my husband's favorite hockey team logo is the Chicago Blackhawks, it's a beautiful logo of an Indian Chief in full colorful headdress. Should that be changed too?

first cast of the day!?! wow! were you *done* after that? I mean, you can't be expected to TOP that catch, so did you just sit back and relax the rest of the time? lol! Fishing is such a great family activity. I just bought a fishing rod, reel, and some intro gear this past weekend at Bass Pro Shops. At 51 years old, I want to take up fishing again... our vacation every year growing up was vacationing in Minnesota, and I loved fishing. Since my dad passed away earlier this year, I want to take it up again as a kind of 'legacy' thing to feel closer to my parents. I need to figure out how to tie the proper knots, though- if I ever lost a hook, Dad was always the one who tied a new one back on for me, lol!! Not sure how many fish I'll actually find in our little in-town pond, but even just sitting there with a bobber and a worm on the line will be fun. From the look of the Bass Pro store, it looks like quarantine has brought out the inner-fisherman in a lot of people... a lot of the hanging hooks in the 'basic gear' section of the store were totally empty, and quite a few people were walking around with fishing rods. Well. Back on topic, that is quite an impressive fish!! Nice job! Thank you! I bet it was a fun fight, bringing him in!

I bet it was a fun fight, bringing him in! I think you are right about COVID bringing a resurgence of fishing. Last week, my neighbor’s mother brought a friend with her to fish with us because she wanted to start fishing again after 20+ years. We first went to a County park on the Occoquan to fish yesterday, but the fishing pier was PACKED with families - not just solitary fishers. Way too close for appropriate social distancing so we left for a local small lake. We are fortunate that we have a ton of small lakes/large ponds around here that all have fish. Usually bluegills and bass. There is a pond in a business park by our local Wegman’s that is awesome for bass. It is nice to be able to drive only 10 minutes to do some good fishing. I find fishing to be a very soothing activity. The being outdoors, the mostly quiet, the casting and retrieving, it is all calming. My 18 yo, who is cognitively around 6 y.o., can cast, retrieve and reel in a fish by himself. I just have to put the worms on and unhook his catches. He really enjoys it, and can actually do it. That said, there is a slot machine aspect to it. When it is time to go, my neighbor and I usually say something like “just 3 more casts and that’s it!” The thrill of having something on your line, even if it is a small bluegill/sunfish is real. That catfish was amazing - the lake is full of 1/2 pound small catfish, which is what we usually catch there - and we were able to see that it was big as I was reeling it in. Lots of fight. I think it is great that you are taking it up again! I highly recommend the Palomar knot, it is very strong and easy to tie. I stink at clinch knots and have lost a lot of hooks using it. I rarely lose anything with a palomar knot - it is usually when my line breaks. I hope that your local pond has as many fish as our local ones. If not, you can always come and visit!

Oh how neat! I love it! Catfish is delicious, too! I love that everyone is rediscovering hobbies like this again. And that's a whole lot less fattening than sourdough baking! LOL>

The first time I went fishing was when I was a little girl. It was a daddy - daughter activity. I caught a cat fish (with a little help). I thought it was the ugliest thing I had ever seen.
Congrats on you awesome catch!
