It's supposed to rain tomorrow (and be freezing cold, and windy. Lovely. ) We made DS's costume this year, out of cardboard boxes and paint. Now of course I am worried that he will disintegrate into a soggy mess. What if anything would you do to protect his costume for trick or treating? Should I spray it with a clear coat of some kind? Wrap it in packing tape? Or just hope for a break in the clouds? This will be our third rainy Halloween in a row. I think we are due for a good one next year!!

I don't think the spray will work, so I would opt for the clear packing tape. Depending on the costume, perhaps consider the clear Contact brand adhesive paper?
The key is to cover the edges.

If you want the easy way, get a 30 gallon, clear trash bag and cut out a head hole and arm holes. If you want it to hold tighter to the costume you can use binder clips. Super easy. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you don't get any rain.

we went to the dollar store and got one of those clear plastic emergency rain ponchos, with a hood. protected our lego man costume very well! we used packing tape to take it in in areas so it wasn't so voluminous and held closer to the costume.

Vast amounts of mod podge? No, probably not. I like Martha's idea.
