Have you had it, can you share your experiences, the good bad and ugly? Were you sedated?
Did you miss more then 1 day of work

Had it. Wish I'd had it sooner. I haven't had any complications or negative effects. I was sedated but the recovery was very easy. I was fine the next day.

Not me but my DD - just happened to ask her this weekend and she is sooooo glad she had it done. Sorry I can't give any details but she is thoroughly pleased.

I had one three or four years ago due to heavy periods. I still have a period but it is very light. I believe that I had it done on a Thursday and was off Friday. I had some cramping and mild pain over the weekend but I think I felt pretty good by Monday.

Had it. Never totally got rid of my periods. Should’ve had permanent birth control at the same time, but my doc didn’t inform me. Thank God I was at least on the pill.
Worked for about 7 years. Then periods started getting worse again and ended up with a hysterectomy. My new doctor said that wasn’t uncommon for periods to come back after 7-10 years.
Overall it was worth it, especially because my doc wouldn’t do a hysterectomy on my in my early 30s.
Fairly painless and easy recovery. I had mine on aThurs, took Friday off, and travelled for work on Monday.

I had it. I was sedated. It never got rid of my periods. I still get one every month, but it is very, very light. Mine was 10 years ago. I had it done on a Thursday, I wasn't back at it the next day, but was fine to go on Monday. One of the best medical decisions of my life. I only wish I had it done sooner.

After suffering through crime-scene worthy periods for several years I had it done about 15 years ago. Best decision ever! My periods went away entirely. I ended up having a hysterectomy about 5 years later for other reasons so I can't speak to how long I would have gone without a period.
Edited to add: I was sedated and the recovery was easy. Like others, I had the procedure on a Thursday, took Friday off of work and was back to my regular schedule on Monday. I had very little cramping afterwards but I did have some discharge for about 6 weeks afterwards, which is fairly common.

I had one in 2/2019. So far, so good. I had periods for a couple of months but now, they are just noticeable enough for me to know it is the 15th. Cramps gone too - so worth it.
I was quite unprepared for the pain afterwards though, I think I have a very low tolerance for uterine pain. I did not receive any pain medication and was told to take Tylenol. Thankfully, I had pain meds from an older procedure because I found it really excruciating for 24-36 hours then I was fine. I would not have been able to go back to work the next day.
ETA: I have my tubes tied so I didn’t have to worry about more birth control but she really wanted to do an IUD at the same time and I refused. From the way I understand it, it lowers your chances of having a child but not 100% and also could lead to high risks if you were to get pregnant.

I’m considering it too. My doctor only does it in the hospital under anesthesia because he said it’s very painful without, but also said that the recovery is just a couple of days.

I should add that I already had my tubes tied. I also had it done under anesthesia at a surgical center.

Had it. Wish I'd had it sooner. I haven't had any complications or negative effects. I was sedated but the recovery was very easy. I was fine the next day. This was my same experience. I never had another period, but I was diagnosed with breast cancer a year later and went through chemo-induced menopause. So I thought that was that (it can be temporary or not), but apparently not ... I went through menopause again 10 years later! argh! <—not relevant, I’m just venting At the time I had the ablation, I’d already had my tubes tied, but my doctor told me that you couldn’t get pregnant anyway after you got your uterus nuked. Maybe that information has changed in the last 20 years. Anyway, it was a great solution for me (fibroids causing pain and super-heavy periods).

I had one five years ago. My periods were crime scenes. I wasn't 'sedated' but I had drugs. I was given a xanax to take two hours before the appointment along with motrin 800. They asked me to arrive 30 mins early so they could give me a shot of tramadol in my ass. There wasn't any pain during the procedure. I was sent home with vicodin and told to take one every four hours, but if the pain was intense I could take a second one in that four hour window. The pain was pretty intense. I think I was home by 11 am, but so drugged that I slept until 5 pm. During that time I'd wake in intense pain....like labor pain...and fall back asleep. The next day I was completely fine. I had watery (I'm assuming it was fluid from blisters) discharge for about six weeks after. It was a lot too. So much that I was wearing poise pads because maxi pads don't hold thin liquids. I never went without a period, but my periods are pretty light. They started getting heavier recently, but still not like a crime scene. My doctor said my crime scene periods will eventually return, but he's hoping I go through menopause before then.

I had one more than 15 years ago, and it was very successful. I went from heavy, continuous bleeding to not having my period since. I'm 54, so hopefully in menopause. (I don't have any symptoms, but my mom never did either.)
I had the surgery, with general anesthesia, on a Friday. I came straight home, slept most of the day and evening, had a low key weekend with mild cramping, and was back to work on Monday.

I had one about 10 years ago. Best decision ever for me. My heavy periods caused my iron levels to be so low that I was passing out and had heart palpitations. I had the surgery under anesthesia, went home and slept the rest of the day, never had any pain, and felt back to normal the next day. It ended my periods completely. My anemia cleared up really quickly after that.

I had one four years ago. I was completely out with IV sedation. I had it done on a Friday and was back to work on Monday but I did go out to dinner on Saturday.
I highly recommend getting your pain meds filled prior to your procedure. I was not given mine until we left the surgery center and my son had to go them filled for me. I would have liked to start taking them sooner than I was able to.
It never got rid of my periods. They got marginally better but not enough to make a huge difference.

Had it done after bonus baby and tubal. BEST THING EVAH! Sedated, out patient surgery. Mild cramping. Next day was pushing a stroller with said bonus baby. I had it done at 40 and have not had a period since but now am 53 so I expect in menopause.
First time I was ever able to wear white pajamas.

I did it with anesthesia at the hospital went home that day though, did it on a Friday and had weekend off. It was an attempt to control super heavy periods but it only worked for 2 months, which after that i was back at hoover dam bursting level..
So it didnt work for me, but it does for many. I'm having a hysterectomy at some point this summer, who knows with covid.

I had it done as day surgery in July 2015. I had it to help super heavy periods. It was done on a Thursday I slept most of Friday and then was fine Saturday. I have not had a period since October 2015.

It was the best procedure I've ever had. Mine was 12 years ago. I had it done on a Friday under the twilight anesthesia (like with a colonoscopy), was at my kids' soccer game on Saturday, and back at work on Monday. I have a tiny bit of spotting a couple of times a year, which is a miracle after what I was dealing with before.

My doctor says it’s not a good option for me because my fibroids are in the uterine wall (I think I’m saying that right) and ablation probably won’t stem my excessive bleeding. I’m scheduled for hysterectomy next month but am afraid it will be canceled due to the hospitals here filling up with COVID patients.

My sister had two. Worked for a while and then it didn't. She just got a hysterectomy last year.

I had crime scene periods with intense cramping ... something I had never experienced until my 40's ... the ablation was given as an option but I chose to have a hysterectomy ... Have you looked into that option? It has been the best thing for me

I had one years ago. They did a tubal during the procedure as well. They originally wanted to do a laser procedure but when I woke up they said that because of how I was shaped, they had to do the balloon version instead - I still don't know what if any significance that had/has. My periods are much lighter with just a couple of days of light spotting, even about 10 years later. It did NOT alleviate the extremely painful monthly cramping like I expected it to, but overall, I'm glad I had it.
I had it on a Thursday and took Friday off, but I probably could've gone to work (office job). The only issue I had was pain at the incision (belly button) for a couple of weeks. I had to be really careful about what pants I wore and bumping my belly against a table or counter, the pain physically made me throw up if I accidentally bumped it. I haven't known anyone else who had that issue, but I thought I'd mention it.

Best thing I ever did for myself, really. I had it done on a friday morning (10 years ago) in the doctors office. They gave me either a valium or xanax, can't remember which, and a vicodin to take one hour prior to my appointment and send me home with a small scrip for pain. It was pretty intense pain for about 30-45 seconds and it was over. I slept that whole day after i got home, Saturday had some period like cramps and was fine but sunday and back to work on Monday. I did have a brightly colored odd discharge for 4 or 5 weeks, but it was light. I haven't had a period since. I feel myself get a little more moody and icky when I should be having my period, but nothing near what it was and no bleeding whatsoever since. Good luck!

I had in 5 years ago. I had sedation but awake and aware. Doctor usually does it under a general. It was painful and very crampy and I took the rest of the day off. I was back at work the next day. Periods went from 9 days heavy bleeding each month to 3 days light bleeding. Didn't regret it.

I would do it again in a heartbeat.
