I think this is such a great idea! Princess and the Frog is a family favorite!! Can't wait to see what they come up with, theming opportunities galore!!!

My youngest watched it over and over when he was a toddler but I really never got tired of it. Last time the whole family was at Disney, my older daughter, who was mid twenty, was absolutely giddy when she met Tiana. 😀 As a factoid Song of the South was the first movie my parents took me to 50 years ago.

Love this idea! Also note that they have been working on reimagining it since last year. Hopefully they can figure out the line/capacity issues at DL. It is always a crazy long wait. My DD likes the ride but we rarely go due to wait.

To me the coolest thing is that, according to the article, they have been working on this since last year. I like that they were looking and reflecting on the impact the ride could make on people prior to our civil unrest.

It’s a relief. I love the ride but hated the theming, and felt guilty every time I rode the ride.

The Princess and the Frog is my favorite Disney movie! This might actually get me to go back to Disney after almost 20 years.

I had no clue Splash Mountain was themed off Song of the South. I've never seen the movie, perhaps why I totally missed the references. It's been quite a few years since I've been on the ride, but I thought there were animals - I didn't get a southern vibe at all.

I also didn't know either and never saw the movie, and although I'd heard the name Brer Rabbit, I didn't know who it was. I could tell the ride had a southern theme, but mainly because of the riverboat at the end. I think the first time I rode it I was in my 40's. It's now one of my favorite rides. Have you seen the video of the ride where someone dubs the Princess and the Frog songs over the original music? It works perfectly.

People are flipping out, but it has nothing to do with racism. (Insert eye roll)

I’m not a big Disney person, so I had no idea Splash Mountain was connected to Song of the South. That’s a great decision by Disney, though.

They have actually been working on it longer than a year. It will be a great Addition. Now if we can get Tiana’s place too, that would be fantastic!

Here is my unpopular opinion. Honestly, I don't love this. The vast majority of people have no clue the ride is based on Song of the South, and all this does is peak their interest in it. I've had 3 people ask me, in the last 2 days, if I have a copy they can borrow, because they have never seen/heard of it (I'm my circles go to all things Disney person). I expect Ebay to be flooded with bootleg copies soon. If waking up a wildly racist movie that has been rightfully dead and buried over 30 years is their idea of pushing back on racism, I guess they have succeeded. Heck, it's always been debated if Walt himself was a racist, anti semite, misogynist. Yes, I realize there has always been an under grumble about the origins of this attraction, but is replacing mischievous animals with a black male villain better and more inclusive? I've always thought it was a mistake for Dr. Facilier, to be shown as black man, especially in the first black princess movie. Personally, I would rather see Disney invest in more strong black characters and movies like Black Panther, than to try and fix things that aren't really broken, for fluff. I've seen Song of the South probably 10 times and rode Splash Mountain no less than 300 times. There is nothing racist about the ride. If the ride shows any prejudice it would be a "dumb (white) hillbilly" stereotype. If Disney is really worried about their racist cartoon animals, they need to take a deep dive into The Jungle Book. It was DS22 favorite Disney movie growing up. It wasn't until he started dating a black girl and heard enough black guys tell her she needed to "get with her own" in front of him, that he realized what movie was really about... This white woman steps off her soap box
