My 8 year old daughter and I did 4th of July tie dye t-shirts with her neighbor friends and their 2 moms. Nobody had ever done tie-dying themselves except for me. I was telling my husband this, and he said he has never tie dyed anything either. He said that only people from Santa Cruz, tie dye! I grew up in Santa Cruz but I don’t believe that only people from Santa Cruz have ever done tie dying!?! 🤪

I have not, but my grandson has at places like youth camp. I think it was more popular back when my son was younger, then it went away and has now resurfaced. Fun projects. Neat to see how the item turns out.

Only once. I used a little kit to do tie dye with my grandchildren. Said grandchildren are now in their 30's.

Yuppers! I did it in my both my second grade classroom and my third grade classroom.
The kids brought the prewashed shirts. I had the rubber bands, and dye. We did it right in the classroom, laid the shirts outside the room on the grass. Then I sent them home in baggies with instructions on how to wash them. The kids wore them for field day!

Been doing tie dye since I was a kid. Both at camp and at home. Did some pieces at the beginning of the summer. 👍🏻🌈

We did some tie dying T-shirts for a court project one year. It was for one of our parties. I had never done it before, or since.

Often. I have a bunch of dye and when the weather cools off a bit, I'm going to try something called ice dyeing.

Only once...it was the afternoon activity at the pool on one of our Disney trips. I needed the break from drinking so I made DH a tie dye Mickey t-shirt. LOL

I haven't done it since the 1970's when I was in high school. If I were to go back to fabric dying, I would try Shibori instead.

Growing up, we tied dyed shirts one time. Both my kids have tie dyed. My 6 year old tie dyed shirts, socks, underwear and a pair of shorts last year. He’s worn them many times (the shirts make an appearance a couple times a week)

Nope, never. I’ve done dozens of other crafts but never that. I’m always afraid I’ll do it and my shirt will turn out looking like mud.

Yes! I grew up in Fremont, no too far from Santa Cruz. 🤣
I now live and work in the Central Valley. I tie dye every year with all the kids at my school (400+ kids) on the last day of school for field day. I also tie dye with my own kids. It’s fun! One year my entire 8th grade of 60+ kids did shirts at school.

Hundreds of times!
Ages ago, 10 of us went to Disney World together (two families of 4 and two extra adult family members) and we made personalized tie dyed mickey head shirts for our group.
Also with my Pre-K class every year, and the charter school I was involved in opening had tie dye as its school colors so my bestie and I tie-dyed everything that wasn't nailed down during our inaugural year. Plus we tie-dyed with new families and anyone needing a new school shirt every year after that... We always made quite the impression on fieldtrips and it was really easy to see if anyone wandered off.

In the 60/70s yes. Batik too. Now I’m wondering why I never did it with my kids. Maybe that’s a project to do with the grandkids.

I did it at school as part of a needlework class, it's one of the ugliest methods of dying anything if you ask me!

I did as a teen. DH never did. I did a couple tie dye projects with our kids when they were younger and the band kid did one last year for band camp. They had themed days and section leaders and the drum majors were expected to participate so he got a shirt and a kit.
I used the leftovers on some Aida cloth.

I made and sold loads of things at music festivals in the 70s, tie died tops and bags being some of them along with enamelled bachi tins and dripping candles in bottles. Ahhhh happy days.
