Are there any Peas from TN? Specifically in the Knoxville area.
-What can you tell me about living there?
-Does anyone live on the water? Please share the good/bad of this as we are looking into maybe doing this.
-What is the worst place to live around Knoxville?
-What is the best place to live around Knoxville?
-Water: best/worst water to live on?
Thanks for any wisdom or experiences you have!

DH is from Knoxville. I like the area around Turkey Creek shopping center. It’s the west side of Knoxville. I don’t care for north Knoxville much.

Do you have school age children? Do you want to be ON the water or NEAR the water? Preferences about being in town or in a rural area?

As far as in/out of town, probably not too far from town. We're looking at both on/off the water. If not a home with an in-ground pool would work too. I think what I've figured out is that we'd have more space if we stuck to a ranch that has a lower level, hence it leads to a lake. I just am not sure what lake to focus on. I'd like to swim in the lake, boat, paddle board and maybe kayak. The homes seem to have a steep grade to the water. That I'm not sure about that.

We retired here 21 years ago, and 😍 love it. We moved last fall to a condo community in west Knox County, and are really happy here. Not on the water, but with 2 pools. The Tennessee River runs through Knoxville and Knox County and Loudon Lake is also part of the water area. Property on the water is expensive . Part of the lake property is actually in Blount County, West Knoxville is the area that has spawned the most growth during the past 30 years or so. There are those who like downtown Knoxville for condo living, but I do not want to live there. Some parts of downtown are not desirable. Knoxville has grown West and northwest. The area is beautiful, and there’s a lot to do and explore. The people are friendly, and traffic is heavy at rush hour, but not bad. We have great medical facilities, and a wide assortment of Churches. If you want more details, please PM me. GamGam

My in-laws live in nearby Crossville in the huge Fairfield Glade community which has retirees from all over. There are lakes and golf courses within their neighborhoods. Crossville is up on the Cumberland plateau so their weather is not as hot as either Knoxville or Nashville in the summer.
They love the community but shopping is limited so they drive to Knoxville's Turkey Creek area a couple of times a month.
Best of luck with your search.

My former neighbors moved to Knoxville a few years ago. They love it there and the more temperate climate is one of the main reasons (they moved from northern Illinois). They also have a daughter and grandchildren there so that was a big draw, but they’ve been very happy with their move.

I'm following this thread because, while I've only been to Chattanooga, I loved the area and have considered retiring to TN. Knoxville looks beautiful!
