A week ago, we made the difficult decision to cancel our family vacation to the SC coast. Mostly because I am high risk - and DD and DSIL will be back in the office, DGD was quarantined because of an exposure in her school 10 days ago, DS had someone in his office test positive, and the numbers keep steadily rising in our area. Since then, it seems everyone I know and lots I don't know are posting picture after picture of their family vacations at the SC beaches on Facebook. While I know we made the right decision for us, I'm feeling like "It's not fair, everybody else got to go to the beach". So, does anyone want to come sit in the pitiful bench with me? Please share your stories. ETA - our beach vacation was supposed to start August 9. We cancelled on July 7. ETA #2 - we have also missed a couples' trip to the beach in early June (the whole trip was cancelled), a girl's trip for me in mid-May (the whole trip was cancelled), and a 3 week trip to England, Scotland and Wales in late August (the whole trip was cancelled). The annual family beach trip that we have been taking for 10+ years is hitting me the hardest, though.

We cancelled our trip to Paris and Disneyland Paris. So disappointed as we had been promising the kids for years. We got vouchers for everything so maybe we can book again next year.

We have missed 6 family trips due to COVID.
Now things are on track to also ruin our European vacation next summer.
We are keeping our beach trip next week, though.
That’s a socially distanced vacation. We have never been closer than a football field away from the next people on the beach. You don’t have to talk to anyone or even see anyone.
I am bored out of my mind and quickly losing the will to live.

Our usual family vacation is to the MN state fair every yr, and the fair was cancelled, so hence the vacation. It's sad. Not much to look forward to. Our other vacation would have been in may to NC, but that was of course cancelled. Right now we are seeing a surge of young kids testing positive from the 4th of july parties here in town, and bar hopping. So I'm ok with just staying home right now.

I'm still pissy about missing our spring break cruise (would have been our first cruise, something I only convinced dh to do b/c it was also for Ds' senior trip with 5 friend and 3 other sets of parents). I'm hoping to rebook for spring '21, not sure I'll be able to convince dh though and it won't be same regardless. We're leaving for our "consolation vacation" to TN this week but we've been there many, many times and it's nowhere close to what we were supposed to do. I'm crabby about the whole situation, so yeah, leave me a spot on your bench.

I don't go on holiday, but my DD had to cancel Paris (May for her 21st) and also Portugal for later this month. She got credit vouchers for Paris (packaged booked via Eurostar) but had to pay around £100 more to get her Portugal trip credited to next year.
My mum does coach trip holidays with another friend (both in their 80's) and they have cancelled the couple they had already booked for later in the year (both within the UK) as they didn't want to spend all the time on the coach in masks and then not be able to join in and make new friends with others on the same trip (social distancing).
Honestly, with all the restrictions in place, even if things are open, I could imagine it all to still be frustrating and stressful, which really defeats the purpose of a holiday in the first place.

Not "family" vacations but I cancelled my trip to NYC to visit my son at the end of March. Also cancelled a wine trip with girlfriends that was supposed to take place a month ago. Three month trip to Morocco next winter is also cancelled. Looks like my 60th birthday trip to Australia September 2021 could very well be postponed as well.

Not by our choice. We were supposed to go white water rafting this coming weekend. Seemed like a safe outdoor adventure/get away . The Hotel called and told us they had to cancel our room for the weekend because they have been exposed to Covid and have to shut the hotel for 2 weeks. It's the only Hotel in the small town and the other Motels are completely booked. So no get away from the mundane boring weekends at home of the last 6 months. Since we live in the PNW with cold snowy winters, outdoor outings aren't our thing in the winter. It's been a long 6-7 months of doing nothing between winter and Covid. We are really bummed about it, so I will join you on the bench. We can't reschedule for this year as the hotel and motels are completely booked for the rest of the season and so are the rafting trips.

We cancelled trips to Scottsdale for spring training, Denver to see our daughter, New Orleans Jazz Fest, Hong Kong for Rugby Sevens, a trip to Scotland, Ireland and Wales, and a side trip to Barcelona to see our other daughter. Some were completely booked and others we just had the dates blocked out.

Technically not cancelled as we didn't even get anything scheduled. Our spring vacation that we were hoping for in May/June that was to be in place of the vacation we put off from March due to a work teammate of mine being on maternity leave. We were just getting back on track of a spring vacation and a late-summer vacation after 4.5 years of not being able to travel because of our diabetic cat.
And the people going to the beach that we know aren't wearing masks and don't appear to be quarantining when they get back. Friends just left for a NJ beach destination this morning and she won't wear a mask unless asked to.
It's really getting to me that people are doing what they want and then going on as normal when they return. It feels futile that we're following the rules and still may/will pay the price for the actions of others.

I had thought at one point I might go somewhere this summer or fall, as my first solo trip since my husband died. I could go anytime since I retired in May.
Then my brother needed surgery, which got postponed because of Covid, and my knees had already gotten much worse and I’m having a knee replacement this week. Between those two things I had decided I wasn’t in a good position to travel, and the virus just adds to that. It’s actually a good time to lay low and go only to physical therapy and other essential places.

We canceled our trip to see our DS and DDIL in Seattle. I miss them so much. DH and I also canceled our joint 50th birthday trip to South Africa and Zimbabwe. Closest I'll get is some South African wine crying about missing safari. Covid 19 sucks.

I am sorry that you just cancelled your family vacation. I feel like "BooHoo" and so what. I am sorry to say that to. We had a big family vacation planned for the July 4th weekend for two weeks to include a lot of outdoor activities, hiking, canoeing, etc. and shopping, visiting touristy sites, etc. We cancelled it back in early April because we had a rally good idea how this summer and possibly the fall was going to go. Its been very disappointing since this is the time we were supposed to go. But we all still being very cautious and pretty much SIP, with realistic trips to the grocery, very small contact, trying to limit exposure. mask wearing. etc. To wait to cancel a vacation a week before it happens seem unrealistic. So we are holding out hope for a Christmas vacation instead, but we are pretty sure we will have and idea much sooner before firming all plans, etc. We will NOT wait a week before to cancel as that is is not realistic in todays world.

We’ve cancelled 2 trips thus far, including an extended family cruise to celebrate my parents’ 50th anniversary.
Our last trip of the year is supposed to be 5 days at Disney World the week before Christmas. Right now it’s looking like we’ll cancel that, too.
We are big travellers and not being able to travel has been the biggest disappointment for us in this whole pandemic. But I do realize it’s a first world problem, and we are fortunate to have our health.

We cancelled Alaska and Denali with all the bells and whistles. Bucket list and all that. We are now booked to Croatia/Slovenia and a week at a wine camp at a farm outside of Florence, Italy. In 2022. We figured we had to have something to look forward to. We have a gift certificate for an ocean front boutique hotel in Half Moon Bay that a client gave us. We're contemplating going in October. We'll see.

We didn't have anything "planned" for this year. But I think we would have gone somewhere. DH's family had their reunion on Saturday, we decided not to go. And even on Saturday DH was thinking that he should have driven up. Then pictures posted on FB yesterday. Everyone bunched close together, not a mask in sight. We are so glad we didn't go. I know the chances of them getting covid is slim, but there is still a chance.

I had to cancel our holiday to Orlando back in late April. I was going with my DD, her fiancée, my DS and his GF, who lives in Orlando but was staying with us for two weeks. It sucked doubly, because that trip was already a rebooked one from the holiday I had to cancel for medical reasons, one week before we were due to travel last September.
WDW is my happy place, and I haven’t been there since 2016. I will not be able to go back until there is a vaccine and I have had it. By then, it will probably be time for my DD's honeymoon instead!

I was a bit sad about mine (not a family vacation), but I got over it. Pre-COVID, I had four fun trips booked, three international, one domestic. I know this will sound so superficial, but I even bought new clothes and a new camera for those trips. Cancelled all. One of those trips was to India to attend my friend’s grandson’s wedding, and I was so looking forward to that because although I’ve been to many Asian countries I’ve never been to India.
To be honest, even though I knew the risks I was still vacillating up until late May until sense prevailed. I just accepted it and figured there’ll come a time when it’ll be safe again to travel so best to keep myself alive and well to enjoy trips in the future. But, yes, I can relate to your disappointment so make some room on that bench for me.

We had to cancel our extended family NJ beach vacation. Was hoping to surprise DH with a September vacation to Volcanoes Natl Park/Hawaii but luckily did not book.
I more than anything want to visit daughter and family in Maine. Need to hug those Grands!! But alas won’t do planes, hotels or interstate travel for a long while. We’re in NoVa.

Our "big" vacation this year was 5 days camping at the beach. We bought a travel trailer in October and the trip this month would be our 2nd trip. We also canceled our first trip (test run) in April.
Reasons for canceling: didn't get to do that shorter test run (we've never hauled anything before), what if we get there and need something and can't find an open store?
Shared restroom with the entire campground (I have 4 kids... did they really wash their hands?)
Anxiety...
And yes EVERYONE I know is on vacation, going on vacation, or just got back from vacation at the beach.
We've thought about just going for a day trip and bringing our own food, we haven't figured our the bathroom issue yet. I know there is a public one, I have no idea if it's open or not. I don't to drive all the way there and find out it's closed...
Maybe next year...

Here is a list of my cancelled trips:
March — solo trip to NYC for Broadway shows May — trip with my twins to London July — family trip to Maine August — family trip to Minneapolis for a wedding August — solo Scandinavian trip
Instead, we rented a house on a nearby island for a few days last month, and I am taking a similar rental house solo trip to that island later this month. At least it’s (socially-distanced) vacation :/. But, yeah, I am really bummed.

Spring break: a beach day, three college tours, and a mountain day. This summer: Colorado. It was cancelled two years ago because DH lost his job, then last year he didn’t have enough vacation accumulated.

We had a European trip planned for this summer that we canceled back in March. We were going to several countries and we were going to stop off to see some of my husbands extended family we haven’t seen since our wedding almost 10 years ago. We are both really upset about that.
We are also getting ready to cancel our trip to Maine to see my husband’s father. He suffered a stroke in April that almost killed him while he was at his home in Florida. My husband couldn’t go out to see him then and we foolishly thought by fall there would be some kind of handle on the situation. We live in California and since we can’t get our numbers down we would likely have to self quarantine for two weeks before we could even see him and we can’t afford to do that. We are just so glad my father in law and his girlfriend made the decision to leave their Florida home and go up to their second home in Maine before things went out of control again.
