DS's refrigerator is on it's last leg. We're doing some research for him and it looks like Home Depot and Lowe's are about the only two choices for him. The space isn't as big as ours so he's also limited that way. Ugh. I told DH and DS last year that he needed to get a new one but no one listened.

We haven't but my girlfriend has. Just a suggestion, order sooner than later. Hers was supposed to be in. The salesman called and he doesn't know when it will arrive. This is all due to Covid.

I could write a book! I had a horrible experience with Lowes starting in December 2019 and finally ending in March 2020. They delivered 2 dented fridges- had to wait a month for the 2nd dented one. So, they reordered a 3rd one. I kept having to call for updates-it's arriving on so and so- never happened. Was told it was discontinued. Went to store twice to get a refund. The first time I was told- after standing at the service desk for an hour while someone ran back & forth to appliances-that it wasn't discontinued but a special order. So instead of refunding they had put my money on a merchandise credit card and used it to place the special order. Waited another month and got another call- now it's discontinued. So back to store to stand around again while someone finally figured out that I couldn't get a refund. I was livid. I didn't want $900 in merchandise credit and I certainly wasn't ordering another fridge to be delivered dented because evidently they throw them off the truck. Was told that corporate would have to send some kind of code to get into the safe so they could give me cash and it couldn't be put back on my creit card. Ok- are we living in the 1950s??? Was told 3-5 days- try 6 weeks- in March. That was after I left a HUGE rant on their Facebook page. Absolutley ridiculous. NEVER again!
Now on my next purchase from Home Depot- I posted about this... Short story- I have a defective fridge that doesn't get cold. I will say that other than having to work with both HD and GE, HD has been pretty good. There's one lady who's been extremely helpful- returns calls and sent e-mails to GE. And I was offered a chair to wait- courtesy goes a long way. I did learn one thing and I'm not sure if this is true at Lowes, but HD is basically responsible for structural damage- dents, scratches, etc. The manufacturer is responsible for mechanical issues, so that's why I had to deal with GE. I did have to demand a new fridge and not to have it repaired several times, but I think my new one is coming this week.
Sorry this is so long and full of errors, but my blood pressure just went up typing this. Good luck!

We have several local independent shops in our area and if I need something, I will probably buy from them as I seem to hear more and more issues when there are problems with a brand. Seems like the big box stores want to brush you off to the name brand company of your appliance and vice-versa. What about Best Buy?

[tr][td class="content"][article] What about Best Buy? It seems their in-store appliance shops are closed right now. I tried. He called one local shop and the ones that would work for him won't be available until September. alexa11, sounds like what happened to us when we bought our first French Door at Best Buy ~ a Samsung. Long story short, a few weeks after the warranty was up they gave us a brand new refrigerator and didn't prorate. Just gave it to us. I think someone screwed up.

We bought one from Best Buy last October. They gave great service as one of the doors received a dent during installation, and they replaced it with a new door.

I bought one recently - sight unseen - from a local appliance store -when everything was on full shutdown.
There were delays and issues due to Covid. At the time there were delays due to factory closures and having available delivery people.
Depending on the urgency of replacement, I would call and check on line for something available in the time frame needed and then hope for the best.

I had problems locating a freezer a few weeks ago. Sears was the only place that had one. We do not have full-blown Sears stores anymore, but there are Sears Hometown stores in the area, which is where I'll be picking our freezer up. They'll also ship.

We bought a fridge last month from Costco. Very easy and they removed out old fridge and set up the new one. I’ve heard some places are not allowing their delivery people inside customers home. We have a small space too as the fridge needs to fit it in between a counter and pantry and underneath a cabinet mounted to the wall.

Not a refrigerator but I bought a new stove during the stay-at-home time. I went to a local appliance store. I always shop at the family owned store and avoid big box stores for anything that might need service at some point. Delivery was free and I love my new stove.

I bought a full kitchen of GE Profile appliances last October from Lowes. I priced between Lowes and Home Depot - Lowes won. Ordering was easy; fulfilling order was less easy -- but the issue was the independent contractor delivery people. *First delivery guy didn't believe the space was "big enough" for the refrigerator -- the cabinet building people said it was big enough, everyone saiid it was big enough EXCEPT the delivery agent. He manipulated the situation sufficient to not have to unload it and "cancel" the order. Took an evening of mean talk to Lowes, GE - who talked to the delivery company -- but still had to wait a week for the new refrigerator to come in. It fit by the way. Everyone involved got an email from me that the SAME REFRIGERATOR that was refused by a truck driver ... FIT properly.
Great appliances, look beautiful in the kitchen ... but I'm still POed about the truck driver calling the shots!

We have a Menard's and that's where we got our last fridge. Lowe's didn't have a fridge that would fit in our tiny kitchen.
My parents got a larger fridge a while back through Lowe's. No delivery fee. When they needed service, Lowe's dropped the ball.
A friend works for Menard's in a different city. She recommends their extended warranty every time. If the company doesn't want to fix it, Menard's will replace it under their warranty.

Avoid Lowes like Covid!! No. No. No. Do not buy any appliance at Lowes.
Our initial dishwasher order that gave us a delivery date of two weeks ended up being just shy of eight weeks and the delivery date was changed five or six times, a couple of them AFTER the delivery date had come and gone.
We were pretty much lied to and given the run around from numerous customer service reps, the distribution manager and the store manager (who was the biggest asshole of them all).
We are planning to eventually replace all of the appliances in the kitchen: refrigerator, wall oven, cook top, and even microwave. Guess some other store is going to benefit from Lowe's gross incompetence and indifferent customer service.

We have a local store here that sells scratch and dent items. We bought a beautiful french door, freezer on the bottom from them a year ago. There was a large scratch on the side of the fridge, the side that butted up to the wall. It can't be seen and the price was reduced $700.00. It is under full warranty and they delivered it the next day.

We bought ours from a local appliance store. It's closer to our home than the big box stores and they are very professional and their prices are very comparable, so we decided to go with them.

We've had way better customer service and success with Home Depot over Lowes. When we found our oven at Lowes, the delivery window was 9-5. After hanging around all day, I called Lowes at 5:15 to see if it was coming. They weren't sure what happened but promised the delivery for the next day. Again, called when it wasn't delivered by 5. Turns out they couldn't find the box even though it showed in the store inventory (a call would have been nice ). They located one at another store and promised delivery. Ugh. Didn't happen and now told the oven is discontinued. I'd already bought the matching microwave and had it delivered by HD. Contacted their customer service and, even though the oven wasn't listed on line, they found it for me and had it delivered a couple days later (with a four hour window instead of all day). Home Depot and Costco are where we get most appliances.

We use a local appliance store. They are so knowledgeable, and appliances are their entire business. Been using the same company for about 30 years.

We have a small space too as the fridge needs to fit it in between a counter and pantry and underneath a cabinet mounted to the wall. Same here. Found it online at Costco and ordered it. Ours had been on its last legs for awhile so we decided to order sooner than later since it did take about 3 weeks. We have the beer fridge in the garage so if our kitchen fridge had died during that window we had a backup plan. I will echo others about ordering sooner than later. A friend of mine is looking at a 6-8 week wait for a freezer currently.

We got ours from Costco online. It took 4 weeks longer than they said it would, due to COVID and inventory issues. A friend of mine just ordered a new fridge a few weeks ago and their delivery date is August.
I'd get one ordered ASAP if you can.

We bought from a local appliance store. We ended up with a great deal on a scratch and dent (really no extreme damage was visible). There is not a small appliance store some where in his location?

Not sure where your son lives, but if it's near Sacramento I really like Zajic Appliances. I bought a built in microwave with trim kit from there, and when I need new appliances I'll go there. My appliances are only two years old and they came from Lowe's. While I'm happy with the appliances for the most part, I am not thrilled with Lowe's customer service. They are a nightmare when it comes to delivery

There is not a small appliance store some where in his location? There are but everyone that he has called said delivery would be late August or later. For those who suggested Costco, they don't sell the type of refrigerator he's looking for.

I haven't bought a refrigerator but I have bought a range and dishwasher and both have come from Lowe's. It was the easiest and fastest option out there and plus my range was brand new in the box marked down from $1,600 to $400. I would have carried that sucker on my back if I had to!!!
Dang I must have a good Lowe's, knock on wood. I have never had a problem with delivery, setup, problems ever. We have been going there for the last 20 years. Knock on WOOD.

We had a hard time finding anything in stock during SIP. Generally, I would start with the local independents but they were closed and the options online were limited. No HD because of politics, and Lowe's didn't have what we wanted in stock, nor did Costco or Bet Buy. Everything we wanted was out of stock and not expected to be available for weeks. We even tried marketplace for a used one but every time we messaged someone, it had already sold or we were ghosted. I have never worked so hard to spend money! We finally found something decent at Sears. In my ordinary life, Sears just is not a place I would generally use. So far, so good, though.

My Frigidaire refrigerator came from a local appliance store and when it had a problem, they arranged for it to be serviced under the warranty by the manufacturer. I was concerned there would be additional problems, but it has been close to 12 years and it works like a charm (so far!)
Last month we bought a stackable washer/dryer set within space limitations, but one neighbor is a plumber and one an electrician, so everything was measured properly and installation was smooth. If we had chosen the stainless steel finish they were running more than a month behind, but plain white enamel appliances were readily available and we went with the white enamel.
Whichever store you choose, I would suggest calling a few days after you place the order to be sure everything is on track. Best of luck to you.
