I was talking to my sister who lives in Florida (she takes COVID as serious as you can in Florida although she feels like it is a losing battle).. but she has a friend, who let's say is pretty well off. Actually very well off.
She can't take much of of her though... She is borrrred.. there is nothing to do. She has a pool, she has a rooftop patio overlooking the ocean, she has her Range Rover and Tesla to take on a drive, but no.. she is borrred.. so her and her husband takes their vacation to some spa last week.
Now their son who lives in Ohio or some place near there lost his job because of COVID. They have hired movers to bring all his stuff home, but they are still borrrred so they are taking this time to make this trip to pick son up (because I guess son can't drive on his own) and making it into a family vacation. Plans are to stop at every fun place between Ohio and Florida.
My sister who lives in a pretty rich area because before her divorce they had some money (not like her friend) but enough to live in a NICE area. She is currently building a small home in a different county and she refers that to going back to her roots. Just normal middle class living. I think even though she hates Florida she has had enough of keeping up with the Kardashians aka her friends. Now she loves her friend and her friend is very nice... but they just come from different backgrounds. But if she hears that her friend is borrrrred one more time she said she might have to have a heart to heart chat with her.. lol

Oh I'm sorry she is so bored. Tell her to go out and catch the virus and then she won't be so bored because she will be too sick to care. What? Too soon?

I am never bored so I don't understand people who constantly say they are. Especially if you have a lot of money -- I mean, you could order all sorts of stuff from Amazon, or anywhere on the internet to occupy your time during a pandemic.... books, a new Kindle, crafting supplies, cooking stuff, exercise equipment... the list is endless of ways I could think of to entertain myself.

I think we need to just extend a bit more grace to people. Some people are extreme extroverts and are having a terrible time with this. Others, like me, don't mind it so much because I have my gardening and I live in the country where I can go out and tramp my many acres or walk with my dog safely down the country roads. If your sister's friend wants to go pick up her son, I just don't see it as something terrible. If they stop at some places--and maintain safety rules--then why not? Esp. if they quarantine when they get home.

I generally agree with what you are saying with the exception that this person is leaving a virus hot spot and will be spreading the "love" all the way there and home. They are not taking a direct and quick trip with minimal stops - they are taking a road trip and I suspect they will not be quarantining prior to leaving to be sure they don't have the virus. This is simply irresponsible of them. I get being bored, but find a way to resolve that without taking chances with the lives of other people you may come in contact with.

As an introvert with social anxiety I was told for my entire life to suck it up and get on with being normal — now all these extroverts can take a breather year, develop their own ways to cope, and NOT RISK KILLING OTHER PEOPLE. Because while Karen might be missing social hour at the bar, about 140,000 American families are missing someone they loved, because that person is DEAD.

Seriously Instagram is FULL of bored Influencers, bloggers and their families who are traveling from state to state and posting all about it. (AS in Texas to Florida) And not just one trip for the summer, it's lots of trips. In their photos posted they are visiting with friends, no masks, going out to eat, sitting on crowded beaches etc. The kicker is they claim they are doing their best to distance and be safe and I think they have just convinced themselves of that. I ended up unfollowing a handful because I was just like this is ridiculous. ETA: of course no quarantining after their trips

I totally get the need to get out. I went up to the mountains about a month ago to get away. I didn't stop until I got to my location. Spent four days in a cabin. Only went out when necessary, two times for food. Still in state. Hung with my friends who themselves have not been out either and had a glorious time. We cooked, we played games, we read, we slept, we got in the hot tub and hiked. It was wonderful.
But when I hear I'm borrred because she can't go down to the fancy restaurants to have her wine or sit AT the beach with her many friends and so forth.. I wanna say (or my sister I should say).. be thankful you are not Anne Frank. Imagine that? Years in hiding. Years of not going outside at all. Years of being quiet. How many people could do that? Stay home. Sit by your pool, read a book and enjoy life. You don't have to put all other lives in danger because you are borrrrredddd. If I put someone's life in danger it's because I had to get groceries or go to work. Hopefully I would not do that!
And she is not a mask wearer.. so you know she isn't a quarantiner either.

This is a difficult time for everyone. People with anxiety, depression, strained relationships, etc are suffering even more. I have compassion for this borrred woman and I hope she wears a mask and social distances herself on her trip.

I am an easily-bored extrovert. This sucks but I’m not going to put other people’s lives at risk because I need entertainment.

I once heard this from teens who lived in a house with a theater room, gym, swimming pool, and half basketball court. Not to mention they lived within 15 minutes of the state capital (plenty of entertainment). Hearing it from an adult is worse.

I kept reading it as borrowed. I kept wondering what it meant. Finally realized it in the last sentence. Sigh. Long day. Too much school drama.

What does her continually saying “I’m bored” have to do with her financial status? It would be annoying, certainly, but you seem to be belaboring that element in your post...

Maybe because -- as I mentioned in my reply -- that there really is no reason to be bored if you have a lot of money. You could buy any number of things to keep yourself busy. I listed a few. Or, with money you could go somewhere and have a *responsible* vacation -- rent a beach house, or a cabin in the mountains. Not travel between here and there, stopping along the way and exposing who knows how many people, or being exposed yourself so you can spread it even more.

i think people should mind their own business and stop policing what other people do, and in this case it is not your friend but a friend of a friend (relative.)

First of all I'm sorry that your sister lives here in FL. It's a losing battle just living here through Covid!!!!!! People did begin wearing masks (a bit), but it's too late!!!!!!!!!!
On top of that, so many idiots from other States are sticking with their precious vacation plans to come down here right now (at the HEIGHT of this virus!!!) because they're under the delusion that where they're staying is somehow "safe". OMFG, it pisses me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not only that, but I limit my social media time because I see relatives (DH's) and friends who are boldly going out, socializing, not distancing, partying, not wearing masks, etc...................... DON'T THEY KNOW THAT THE PANDEMIC IS OUT OF CONTROL IN FL? It's too upsetting and stupid to even discuss it with these idiots!!!!!! I have some relatives who insisted on vacationing down here in the past few weeks. They're not stupid, but they insisted they were "safe". NO, YOU'RE NOT!!!!! And even if you were, and you happened to break a leg or get hurt, the ERs are all super-packed and don't need your stupid body there due to your selfish vacationing butt wanting to be here!!!!!! STAY HOME!
As far as your sister's friend being "boreddddddddddd", sounds more like stupidity than wealth; sorry. I've had wealth and I haven't lived selfishly/stupidly like your sister's friend. She sounds like someone who is self-absorbed and just ill-informed. Has nothing to do with her wealth. She's STUPID!!! I hope that your sister will distance herself from someone who is that empty.

What other people do affects the health of all of us.
People's boredom is getting people killed.
If you can minimize your bubble and your footprint and make sacrifices so that this ends sooner rather than later, you should, and deal with your boredom with a puzzle or learning a new hobby.
The selfishness of people in this country is shocking, but...not shocking.

And it's amusing that people might be choosing people to critique just because they're bored, but both of you should consider that there are MILLIONS of people out there who could directly be impacted by these people's selfishness. I'm certainly not advocating interfering by being violent or ranting, but *maybe* some of these people could benefit from thinking their ill-advised plans through? Maybe some informative input might help?

What does her continually saying “I’m bored” have to do with her financial status? It would be annoying, certainly, but you seem to be belaboring that element in your post... It has nothing to do with her financial status other than she has the means of not being bored. Lot's of opportunities. If I didn't work and have financial means I certainly would not be complaining (maybe in my head) that I couldn't take that around the world trip I was planning. Well maybe I would complain about something like that, but what I am saying she can do so much without worrying about what it costs. She could still go rent a house on a private beach, or she could do some kind of hobby. There is so much she can do. My sister stays home. She goes to work at odd hours to get in and out of the office and back home. She shops at weird times to avoid crowds. She doesn't have the income anymore so she does stuff to stay busy when she isn't working. Heck she does better than I do staying home. She doesn't complain about being bored. She finds things to do at home. Someone said a friend of a friend (she is actually my friend as well, but I don't live near them and she is way more closer to my sister than I am, I would say I am a close acquaintance)

And I had you in mind when she was telling me this. You are right.. she is more self-absorbed and not about the money. She didn't come from money so she knows what it is like to have nothing. How you get from point A to point B and not realize how lucky you are? My sister is trying hard to distance herself from her.. Moving in fact will make a huge change. Sad thing is she is really nice, but just clueless.

Sad thing is she is really nice, but just clueless. Thanks for thinking of me................ I came from nothing and then got $$ from my personal injury nightmare. Then I made a nice income with my then-husband in our law office and we lived a nice life. We constantly gave to family and causes. I'd tuck $100 bills into my Nana's china cabinet every time I went to her house....... (lots of stories like that!). It's terrible to live with financial worry, and I didn't let one day go by without being grateful for being out of that fear, so I gave back.......... When I got back into that horrible worried situation (post-divorce), I knew it sucked but I lived as "real" as I could live. SO, I don't know how people could not know how lucky they are to be financially secure.
I'm sure that your sister's friend is nice and has good qualities, but being clueless would be a deal-breaker for me. Too bad she can't have an "awakening" moment before it's too late.
