I was so happy to see this yesterday. Bravo. AND they're giving their employees bonuses. I think every store should follow suit.
I used to love going BF shopping w/ my Mom and my aunts....when stores opened at 4am. I won't do this day of Thanksgiving or midnight crap.

It's the right thing to do. I'm not going to give them a standing ovation though. They aren't losing any money because so much will be made online this year. I would expect overall spending to be down with such high unemployment. Discount stores will likely get a bigger share of the spending. Walmart has been one of the big winners among retailers during the pandemic and can certainly afford to close for a few hours of the holiday season.

I wonder what BF will be like. Retailers have spent many years creating or encouraging mass hysteria for "deals" and crazed shopping on BF, even when staff have been hurt or killed. So now do we think people are going to nicely stand on line outside stores while two people are allowed in when two people leave? All while wearing masks and social distancing?

I’m glad to hear they are closing. There’s just really no good reason for stores to be open on thanksgiving day or Christmas day.

IMO, Black Friday has really gotten out of hand... Doesn't even start on Friday anymore anyway. If this virus mess has taught us anything, it's that we needed to slow down and spend more time with family. I'm glad they're doing the right thing for their employees. I've never participated- no deal good enough to get in that mess. Online is good enough for me!

Good for WalMart and I hope other retailers follow suit. Black Friday isn’t as exciting as it used to be. The sales start BEFORE BF, and online shopping means mane shop from the comfort of their easy chairs. And I don’t think the deals are as good.

I hope all the other big stores fall in line behind Wal Mart and remain closed on Thanksgiving.

I wonder if it really comes down to stock, and if there will even be much of a BF? right now stores are low on stock, and the big stock items are usually Tvs, computers, etc, all stuff that comes from China, or overseas. Are we even going to have that stuff? I bet there won't be much for black Friday sales anyway.

This is a good start for sure. What I'd also like to see is them actually staff their stores appropriately for the holiday season. Last year my local Walmart's cyber Monday online pick ups were averaging over an hour wait time. The employees were exhausted.

Good.
As a former employee, I can tell you things were tense when certain employees had a holiday off and others didn't.
