Why do people reply to a facebook post with "following"? And sometimes "f"? I see it so much in my local area facebook groups. Why do they think we are all interested in whether they are "following" the thread? I must be missing something! Didn't want to ask on there because some are my neighbors!  |

I see that in many of my groups. I’ve read that it’s done by people that don’t know they can turn on notifications for the post. So they type following to get notifications  |

Same as when people reply on threads here as a way of saving their spot.. they will get notifications etc.

Whenever someone shares how it’s done, these people *never* think it means them. That’s exactly what my sister’s response (that is cut off on the bottom of the screenshot) said! |

I prefer to SAVE posts. Don't care about notifications, but want to easily find it again. Saving is the best.

Some people don’t trust that the notifications will actually work, so comment to be “sure”, apparently (I never had a problem with them not working, personally, so I don’t know lol). Not sure why they don’t just save the post, but that is why some people comment “following”, supposedly.

I’m convinced they do it because they know how much it infuriates me. I mean, if you can’t figure out how to use notifications at least post some mindless comment like “I’ve wondered that too” or “sounds delicious”. *
*this is where my anger becomes irrational because the end result is the same, their comments clog the feed, but it doesn’t bother me when it’s not so blatant.
