My nephew had his wedding on Friday with 150-200 people there. We did not go. My 81 year old mom only went to the outdoor ceremony, keeping herself distanced from people. She said she was the only person wearing a mask. 🤦
I'm waiting for the news story of an outbreak in that area of the state in a few weeks.

Ugh, my family keeps asking me to come over and hang outside and have dinner. I agreed to go tomorrow. It will be my mom and dad who really do not leave the house, my sister and her husband and her son, and me and my four girls. My family has also practiced very strict distancing. My BIL however is a border patrol agent — not sure how much public contact he has since our border has been closed and will be indefinitely.

And this weekend they rescinded the ok for a rodeo because they refused to wear masks or socially distance

They said they were doing it without spectators, but invited everyone to come in and peacefully protest, which 100s did. I don't know the actual count. And of course without masks, because their rights ya know.

That stupid rodeo makes me crazy. People were pretty damn proud of themselves for showing up without their masks. It's in my county so I'll be paying attention to our numbers in the next few days.

Dh's sister is getting married in a couple weeks. Wedding is at peoples house that I do not know. Pot luck style. Don't know how many people are invited. Probably no masks and no social distancing. Guess who's not going.
It's her third marriage. I did my duty at the other two. She can give me a pass on this one.

The Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota has the potential to be an absolute disaster. OMG that's happening?! Yep. Starts on the 7th and runs through the 16th. We were visiting with a judge today that said he had to get a Covid test after officiating a small wedding where the groom tested positive after. His test fortunately came back negative, but he wonders about the 20 others who were there. He watched the groom hug several guests.

the assholes on my fb feed would respond with, "But how many died" And if they died they were old and it must have had a preexisting condition because you just know that anyone with a preexisting condition doesn’t count as they are just waiting to die anyways. So frustrating. Let’s add that half the population has a preexisting condition and I just want to smack them.

Thanks for sharing this.
My IL's are in their 80's and already asking about Thanksgiving. Dh has also talked to them about being more cautious around family once the teachers and children are back in school. We have only done some driveway visits with them, but others have had them babysitting and for indoor visits.

Thanks for sharing. It’s a good visual on how it spreads so quick before anyone knows they are spreading it. And it’s not spreading to just the people that are going into crowds and when you think you are being safe, one or two people around you may not be.

My sister works at a mobile home retirement community in Hidalgo county (south Texas for non Texans). She is worried she is going to catch the virus because the residents REFUSE to wear a mask when they walk into the office to speak with her. She is very stressed as she has now knows of 2 people who are friends of friends who have passed away in the last week. She sent pictures of the residents in the communal area recreational room, about 10 of them at the time, no masks. She tells them every time that they must wear a mask and they walk in without one anyway. One resident told her "I've lived a long life, I don't care if I get it". Well that may be so, but, my sister has not lived her long life yet! The government can do all they want to keep people at home, but, the masses are not going to do that. People are going to do whatever they damn well please, as is apparent. So what exactly does the government do? start arresting people? throwing hundreds of offenders in jail? And that county is a super hotspot, too. Some of the government (aka our dumb shit "president" and his cronies) has politicized this to the point that even education probably won't work. So people will die. This was an interesting article with an actual strategy that may help people overcome their bias - consider the opposite - but that strategy requires really thoughtful communication and probably an established relationship. And time.

Yep - this happened to us 4th of July. We are super careful and mask everywhere - made a one time mistake and went to sister-in-law's annual barbecue on that Saturday. Tuesday we got the call that brother-in-law had tested positive. Our only saving grace was that he thought he had a kidney stone and sat in his recliner the whole time. Didn't even get up to get his own food. What he thought was a kidney stone turned out to be body aches from Covid! Two nephews and a niece also contracted it but are young and recovered easily. Brother-in-law lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks and is on breathing treatments.

The Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota has the potential to be an absolute disaster. So I work with a nurse here at work and although there is NO COVID she is paranoid to the max.. questions everything. Okay that is fine (I feel she is a little overboard, but okay).. BUT then she is saying she can't wait to go to Sturgis this year. WHAT? Are you kidding me? I work for the State and they basically send out an email at LEAST once a week to 'remind' us of what we are doing in our own time. She is paranoid and going to Sturgis. I don't get that.

They are seeing spikes, in cases, on Cape Cod and have traced it back to 2 big parties: on in Chatham and another in Falmouth. The Board of Health was pissed and I don't blame them.

They’ve announced a Foreigner concert for the damn Civic Center here for October.
Yes, let’s just cram a bunch of people inside the civic center dancing and singing.
At the same time as you’re putting together a taskforce, because positive cases in this and the next county are very concerning - and stem from 4th July gatherings.
I am SMH. Defies belief. We keep shooting ourselves in the foot over and over again.

Lots of people are having huge events, unmasked. It upsets me for so many reasons, but most of all because I’ve been avoiding my people all this time, and now I have to be subject to hundreds of unmasked strangers, who’ve been god knows where around god knows who, literally 3 feet in front of my face. We do buffet style, and with Covid restrictions we have to serve everything now instead of just replenishing the buffet and guests helping themselves. I wish they’d shut events back down, because it’s terrifying going to work.
