I imagine Yo Semite Sam, with his guns ablazing, is his favorite Looney Toons character

You can see him pause and kind of think to himself "that doesn't sound right. Let me try again..." and say it again. I believe the correction was "yo- seminites" most people who go to yosemite look at the granite mountains.. sequoias are in the south end where many fewer people explore.. esp since there is another park down the road called Sequoia National Park. I was slightly confused at going to Yosemite to see the sequioas, too. I was waiting for him to reference a visit to Jellystone Park to see Yogi Bear. That’s Yo-Gee bear to you!

Truly worthy of rolling on the floor!! Trouble is I have too much trouble getting up! Everyone mis speaks and or mispronounces words from time to time. I mean hey, I live in NJ were so many things are not pronounced as they are spelled. Many are Native American based.

I was hoping the Jews were exchanging recipes and talking about Rosh Hashanah which is coming up. Then I watched the video. Didn’t he watch Bugs Bunny? I mean seriously?

Then there’s the ‘controversy as to how to pronounce Avon by the sea and Buena. We are just weird here.

That was painful. No one goes over the speech with him and makes sure he understands the words (or at least can pronounce them?!)? Ouch. Between Trump's really crappy make-up jobs, horribly written speeches, and poor preparation for public appearances, I almost believe we have a member or two of The Resistance inside the White House.

they were clearly out of their depth, flounder and look like an idiot. Every single time he does a speech he sounds exactly like that! There's no meaningful intonation, no apparent comprehension of the words he's repeating and clearly no recognition of many of them!

There's no meaningful intonation, no apparent comprehension of the words he's repeating and clearly no recognition of many of them! this is why he made it sound like Old Faithful was IN the Grand Canyon (he misspoke a word, I think, and didn't put the pauses in where he should have...) and YES, I totally agree that a lot of the time when he reads a speech it's a lack of comprehension of what he's reading. He's clearly never read the entire thing ahead of time, or he doesn't 'read ahead' a word or two to see what the NEXT words will be, or what the 'thought' is that he's trying to get across.

So...if he pulls off his face, is there a malfunctioning computer board under there? like the Yul Brynner robot in the movie Westworld? that's horrifying. Or the Dolores robot in the tv series... that would be horrifying, too- because she knew what she was doing.

"The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump GOP super PAC, shared “The president can pronounce hydroxychloroquine, but not Yosemite,” referencing the antimalarial drug that the president has touted as a treatment for the coronavirus. " Surely they are working on a new video. Although not so sure they can go too far with Jewish angle. We love each other here and it went extremely well...

Hey, I just came up with a possible rationale! He tried to pronounce it the best that he could and just didn't have any frame of reference for the correct pronunciation. He thought about the correct pronunciation, but thought, "No, that's Sam from Bugs Bunny, so that can't be right...." I was going to say that no one of his generation could have missed that pronunciation, because of Yosemite Sam. He’s older than I am, but I knew that word practically before I learned how to read. To me, it’s just another sign of either his lack of real literacy including cultural literacy, or his undiagnosed learning disabilities. hmm, guess I’ll add encroaching dementia to the list. SOMEthing is wrong with his brain, that’s for sure.

I strongly believe that Trump is dyslexic, and try to keep that in mind when he struggles reading things out loud. My DS is dyslexic and I've seen him make the same kinds of mistakes. That said, if you know you struggle reading things aloud, you ask for clarification of any words you don't know how to pronounce before you stand at the podium. I don't believe he cares enough to read anything beforehand. Maybe in his mind it shows a weakness on his part to admit needing help and, for whatever deluded reason, looking like an imbecile while mispronouncing everything, somehow, doesn't? I'd say it takes great mental gymnastics to live like that, but who are we kidding, he isn't fit enough for any sort of gymnastics. I wrote out Yosemite for DS and asked if he knew that word. He studied it for a second then came up with the correct pronunciation on the first try. We talked about how he arrived at it. He doesn't think he's ever seen it written before, but he has heard the word and through process of elimination of what words began with "Yo" he came up with it. He also pre-reads anything he knows he will have to read in front of people to avoid embarrassments like that. It's one of the reasons he disliked in-class reading so much. Yes, that! It reminds me of leading worship in church... whoever is doing the readings *always* should read it through ahead of time to be sure there are no tricky place names or people's names. Always. But the thing about trump is that in his mind he is never wrong, so to ask for advice from anyone else implies that he might not know something. I'm also reminded of the first time I saw the name "Hermione" in print. I pronounced it "her-me-own" with the accent on the last syllable. But I was a kid, not the president.

I read scripture a lot at church.. and boy.. I check those words that are not common and check them twice---but then I spoke in public for a living ---and try to be prepared. and I'm not on tv.. if you have a hard time.. change the text on the fly and say something you can say

Yosemite is not a word I recall hearing growing up, more Importantly, neither did I see it written down and but I can remember the penny dropping when I connected the two things. Ditto Arkansas...but then I’m not American so I feel ok about this 😉

Who knew that the Jews had a National Park - the most beautiful one in my estimation- named for us. and to think I have been mispronouncing it my whole life. The video didn't show in your post when I clicked and yet, after seeing only your words, a slight hesitation and "whaaat?" I put it all together in my head then googled "Yo-Semites national park" and the news popped right up. Pretty much matching exactly what I had imagined in my head. How sad is that. Oh, wait... trump. Predictable. no self back-patting for me.

Ditto Arkansas...but then I’m not American so I feel ok about this 😉 You should feel fine, being a Brit! It is a name that most Americans know because of 1) Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes cartoons and/or 2) it is one of our best known National Parks. Given that the topic of today’s speech included the National Parks, you would have thought that Trump would have known immediately how to pronounce it. It wasn’t like it was a name/word just thrown in at random into the speech, in which case it *might* be understandable; but when the topic is the Great American Outdoors Act, which includes the National Parks, it should have been expected.

'because it's his job to know' should be reason enough. Idiot. but as always it will be given a pass as normal by the orange kool aid drinkers.
