Just for fun..... what were the last few things you looked up on Google Maps? These are mine: 1. Whittier, Alaska - after reading revirdsuba99 's thread about the town, where almost the whole population lives in one building. 2. Zorro Ranch, New Mexico - after watching the Jeffrey Epstein documentary the other night. 3. Portobello Rd Notting Hill, UK - I saw a post on Facebook that showed the most Instagrammable places, and the pastel houses in Nottinghill were way up there in popularity. So I went for a virtual walk along Portobello Rd, from one end to the other. They're similar to the Painted Ladies in San Francisco (which I have also Google Mapped before). I love to look up places if I'm watching a TV show or reading a book, and they mention the name of the place where it's set. And sometimes just for fun I will check out a place in another country and pick a house or a street where I would like to live. I waste far too much time on Google Maps!

I'm always looking up places on the map when I'm reading articles or watching tv. I can't watch tv without my iPad close by anymore! These are from the past two days.
1. Emmental Valley, Switzerland - doing a big of genealogy research
2. Vittel & Lourdes, France - was watching an episode of Down to Earth (Netflix) about France and water
3. Various locations in Iceland - watching the episode of Down to Earth about Iceland and their renewable energy efforts (and wishing I was back over there for a vacation!)

I use Maps (Apple) a lot to look up store hours and get their phone numbers. Last one was a local restaurant to order take-out.

That’s so funny I look on google maps constantly.
About ten minutes ago I mapped Bend, Oregon to the Bay Area to see where I can stop in between - any tips welcome!

Whittaker, Alaska - after reading revirdsuba99's thread about the town, where almost the whole population lives in one building. 2. Whittier. To get there you have to drive through a 2.5 mile long tunnel that is shared with a train. My husband often has to work there. In the winter the close the tunnel at 9pm and don't open it until 7am unless there is an emergency. There is one creepy hotel and a BB that is open year round. Another hotel is only open in the summer.

I often look up places mentioned in news stories, blogs and books. I use Google maps when doing my genealogy and indexing records and transcribing records.

My most recent google maps search was a friend's mom's house so I won't mention where. Sadly, his mom just passed away and I was sharing the address with my sis so she could take a look at it because she is very interested in investing in the area. Last night we were checking out Mt. Whitney where a friend planned to summit today. I've also been checking out properties on Samos, Greece but haven't found anything that might make us buy yet. I love google maps.

I too look up places I read about in an article or on the news. I occasionally do a little road trip planning and use the map a lot for that.
The last one was Gypsum, Colorado which is close to where fires are burning. Son has a media pass and will be taking photos of the well known race up the Pikes Peak Mountain. He was saying all these people from different countries will be there and I told him, probably not and so we then looked up what the travel restrictions were and the Schengen Area listed. We had no clue what that was, so we looked that up and found out it was a group of European countries that have come together and said they one does not need a passport to pass in and out of those countries.
Then I looked up an address in the Seattle area that was given to me that didn't look quite right. Was suppose to be a house, but it had a Unit number on it. It was in a strip of offices, but none had names on them, so not sure whee I was being directed, but this was suppose to be for a person that works for Costco IT, so it was not his work nor his home.

2 little islands in the Maldives that were set to be transformed into another luxury resort but the local population fought against it and won

The home of a violent sexual offender that just moved into my neighborhood. I received a notice from the sheriff's department and wanted to be sure what house it was. As if 2 weeks ago it was for sale, looks like he'll be here for the long haul.

The town in Colorado where my sister & her fiance just bought a house so I could see where in the mountains it is.
The location of an acquaintance's house in town. She posted about storm damage & I wanted to see where she's at specifically because I drove near by trying to get home after the storm (had to keep changing my route because of downed trees & power lines).
Branch locations for my bank because my neighborhood branch closed last year & the other 3 closest to me have been shut down since March. I was tired of going so far out of my way to 2 busy branches...need to finally try mobile depositing since I no longer have direct deposit.

An address for an open house. I wanted to know where on the street it was since it's split in three sections with two main roads dividing them.
A couple of vintage/antique shops for vendor shows. One was in an area where there is three or four shops all within walking distance of each other. I wanted to make sure I was going to the right one.
Recently I looked up a couple of addresses that were listed in old photo albums of my parents'. Wanted to see how the area changed from the time of the photos.
I get curious about certain events in town or that mention streets that are near DH's office. I look them up to see how close or where it was.

When my kids were in college my naturally curious husband loved to Google Earth their friends’ hometowns until I told him the optics on that were really creepy lol.

my real searches are nothing too exciting-
1) a doctor's office location (foot specialist to finally find out what's been wrong with my foot since FEB)
2) the address of a dog owner we met over the weekend (we wanted to meet collies to see how they compare to our Shelties)
3) the addresses of some for-sale properties in a neighboring city (I check out what houses are for sale every once in a while, just for fun)
4) the address of our local bank branch (I can never remember if I need to turn left or right from the main road, lol)
Every once in a while I will see a location listed on Instagram that I've never heard of and look it up to see where it is... the last one was somewhere in Poland, I think.

1. Pennsic Troll - Pennsic is a large medieval recreation event that, of course, isn't happening this year. Friends suggested the search because there are a lot of pictures associated with that place name.
2. Tap o'Noth - a site with some recent archeological discoveries.
Anything else recent was to look up hours or the busyness graph.

1. Rest areas, we needed someplace to stop on our moving day. 2. Garnet Ghost Town, it's listed as one of the places to visit while in Missoula. 3. Dog parks. Whitefish, MT has the best dog park that we have ever visited.

Today I needed to go to a laundromat so I had to find one in the area as it is years since I have been to one. How funny, DSO has just headed off to the laundromat to wash all of our bedding and doonas! He washed the spare doonas a month or two ago, and I had to do the same thing as you, Google Map to see where it was because we'd never used a laundromat around here before. A couple of times I have had to google map the little Vietnamese cafe/restaurant we like, so I can ring them to make a booking. I can never remember the name of it, so I go to Google Maps, then street view, and zoom in on the phone number on the window.

Springfield, IL. They are building a Portillo’s Hot Dog restaurant there (Chicago favorite) and I wanted to see the drive time from my house in St. Louis. 1 hour, 36 minutes.
Neighborhood in St. Louis city where my MIL currently lives to the St. Louis city neighborhood where she’s moving next week to get an idea of mileage for the Uhaul. 3.8 miles.

My son (5) and I like to do random street view drops around the world. Last week, we saw a snapshot of a kid getting knocked off his donkey in Nairobi . It's been our substitute quarantine vacations. We spend a lot of time on beaches.

I'm boring compared to the rest of you who are looking up foreign locations. I need to start doing that. Hey, I wonder if I can get a street view of the area I lived in when I was in West Africa? In the meantime, my last Google maps searches were: 1. Our new pastor's house so I could drop off something for her. 2. An address right in my own neighborhood where I was going to pick up something from our Buy Nothing group...but that street is a divided road and I wasn't sure which side was odd numbers and which was even, and I needed to know which direction to come from. 3. The new Red Cross building so my husband could find where he was supposed to be giving blood. (as an aside to this one... if my dh would get his ding dang smart phone he could do his own searches, among other things! sheesh... his work has offered them iPhones now for ages -- it was a security issue why they didn't have them sooner -- but dh clings to his Blackberry. ugh However...I think it has finally died, so he's being forced to enter the 21st century! ) 4. NYC to find out where exactly the recent blackout was, because on TV it looked like it was right near where dd used to live. It was! 5. My ds's town in Georgia so I could see exactly where the path of the hurricane was going in relation to him. That's it. Like I said, I'm boring. Off now to see what comes up when I put in my little village in Burkina Faso. haha

It's funny before the Whittier Alaska post happened, I had been on Google Maps looking at downtown Alaska -- Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau but then towns like Seward. It's just so cool that you can go street level. Then I went to realtor.com to check out housing in Alaska. I don't know why I got on an Alaska kick.
