I saw that on Dolly's Instagram page. I'm 42 but grew up only listening to country and still pretty much only do. I love the oldies still, I have many downloaded on Spotify.

I'm 42 but grew up only listening to country and still pretty much only do. I love the oldies still, I have many downloaded on Spotify. I'm 42 also. All my parents listened to was country. I definitely listen to more now. I listened to tons of Kenny and Dolly and especially their Christmas albums. I don't know if it's the pandemic or what, but I've been listening to and watching lots of old stuff lately. I just listened to a Johnny Cash song. Last week we watched Goonies. Blasphemy, my daughter had never seen the movie!
ETA: No idea why that quoted you weird!

I swear I almost started a similar thread last weekend. I am 53 and my father listened to country music when I was growing up. I still have several CDs (yes, I still have cds) and will regularly listen to John Anderson or Don Williams. Last weekend I pulled out my old K. T. Oslin and Charly McClain cds. Anyone remember them?

I grew up on Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty, Ronnie Milsap as they were my parents favorite singers. Johnny Cash was huge favorite of me and my sister. When we were very young my mom said we knew the exact day and time The Johnny Cash show was on and wouldn't miss it. I love Patsy Cline, Johnny Horton, John Denver, Charlie Pride, Charlie Rich growing up too. Current favorites of mine are Martina McBride, Alan Jackson. Gary Allen, Thomas Rhett and Eric Church.

Great news! I can't wait to hear Dolly's new album.
When we lived in Houston, there was a radio station that played nothing but classic country. I listened all the time. One year we went to a Brad Paisley concert at the Houston Rodeo and the Gatlin Brothers may a surprise appearance. Brad performed Houston (Means I'm One Step Closer to You) with the Gatlin Brothers and of course the crowd loved it. It's so nice when the newer artists acknowledge the contributions of the older artists.

We like old country (DH And I both grew up on it) but aren’t fans of the newer “bro” country.
I feel like some modern folk rock or bluegrass is the more natural evolution of old country.

My parents were huge country fans and I can still see the Conway Twitty eight track next to the Charlie Pride eight track in the storage compartment of our hi-fi system LOL. My musical tastes tend more towards pop and top 40 but I got a blast from the past the other day in my own backyard… The neighbors were listening to music around the pool, you know, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Charlie Pride LOL! singing crystal chandelier.

Ahhh, Charlie Rich singing Behind Closed Doors. There were 8 girls in the office and all work would cease while that song was playing. Love my country music, old and new.

I grew up on old country! Every Sunday, the big old console stereo would come on the the sounds of Conway Twitty, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams, Ray Price and evening Tennessee Ernie Ford.
Years later the first place my husband and I lived was a duplex. Ray Price’s mother owned it and lived in the other half. Clara Cimini, she was 92 in 1995 and she would have me come over and open her bottles of wine and let me take some homemade meatballs out of the freezer for my trouble!! LOL! I love that memory!

Our local country radio station plays oldies on Saturday nights, so if I'm driving during that time that's what I listen to. But I also own my own collection of old school country music and thanks to Amazon Music I have access to a lot more. I love Don Williams. And Glen Campbell. Old country music is like comfort food. It's what my parents listened to so it brings back memories from my childhood. I still remember when we bought my dad Kenny Roger's Greatest Hits and a Dolly Parton 8-tracks for my dad for Christmas. Every time we rode in his Ford Bronco we listened to one of them.

Love old country, it’s my favorite genre to sing and to listen to. Willie’s Roadhouse on Sirius is always on in my car. Dh and I went to Nashville on our honeymoon in 1972 and saw Dolly and Porter (and many others) at the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman. 💜💜💜

OMGosh on the Dolly Christmas album!! I am so excited about that! I was able to take my kids to see her when she played locally a few years ago. They had no idea who she was, they still don’t like country, but, they LOVE Dolly. She was better live than you could ever imagine.
I love old country. Loretta Lynn is probably my favorite, but, I also love Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, etc. I listen to a few new songs-I just went to a virtual Blake Sheldon concert, and he was GREAT-but, I generally stick with the old stuff.

Me! I love Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard and the rest of the greats. Like many others, I was forced to listen during my childhood years and now I am so grateful for my appreciation of the classics.
OTOH...I also love Nellie, Green Day, Beyonce and Gwen Stefani. So I am in that group of people that appreciates all kinds of music!

I had the great privilege of seeing Loretta Lynn in concert at Winstar a few years ago. She was amazing. Her band and family really love her. They take great care of her when she is on stage.

KT Oslin’s, “I’ll always come back” played on Sirius when I was heading to the dentist yesterday. I cried like it was the late 80’s all over again!
Loved all the above including, 60’s-80’s country. Lynn Anderson, Earl Thomas Conley, Emmylou, Gatlin Brothers, Lorrie Morgan, Juice Newton, Donna Fargo, Ronnie Milsap, Roy Orbison...
So many!

I love the old country songs too, He Stopped Loving Her Today is one of the greatest songs ever written. I will also admit to loving some Randy Travis because he reminds me of the old country singers. Normally I listen to Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears, Pet Shop Boys and all the 80’s goodness, but I do love the old country songs. We used to watch the Mandrell Sisters with my gramma. And in Alaska there was a showcase called Diamond Studs or something like that we would go see every summer that was like a variety show with old country songs. I don’t care for whatever passes for country today. ShaniaTwain was the beginning of the end as far as I am concerned.

Yes to all the old country singers, but a huge yes to George Strait!!!! I saw him in concert in 1998. There's just something magical with him. It's just George and his guitar, but oh my! And on a side note, he is amazing in Wranglers! I'm not normally one of those Wrangler butts drive me nuts kind of people either!
I will also admit to loving some Randy Travis I really like him! When they did a tribute to country music at the CMA's (I think it was celebrating so many years?) They had Randy sing his Amen at the end. I got chills. So very sad he had a stroke.
We used to watch the Mandrell Sisters with my gramma. I forgot about that one! I thought Louise was gorgeous! I like her best out of the three. It's been so long, I don't know if I'd have a preference.

Country music was pretty much all my parents listened to when we were growing up. Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, George Jones, Roger Miller, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, and of course Dolly were all favorites. It been nice to see Dolly gain popularity with the younger generations.
I used to listen to country a lot, but some of the newer stuff just doesn't do it for me. The one exception is a newer group I recently discovered - Midland. Their sound is more like the country music of the 70s. George Strait is my all time favorite though.

Willie’s Roadhouse on Sirius is always on in my car. That's my husband's favorite Sirius station in his truck and I've picked up a lot of songs off of it to add to various playlists. We also have a local classic country radio station. I listen to them for local announcements and news, but I've discovered lots of good country oldies there too.
