I’m a teacher and we head back tomorrow. On Thursday, we received an email that there will be a 15 minute staff meeting “in the cafeteria or virtually, whichever you’re comfortable with!”. It’s a meeting of about 40 people. The email goes on to say that we can socially distance better in the cafeteria than the library, where we normally have staff meetings. This is true, but I’m still a little surprised this is even coming up as an option. I think people will be swayed to do the in person option to please the principal, but may be (hopefully) wrong. Would you go, or watch from your classroom?
Edited to add - we are starting hybrid with kids in two weeks.

I would say cafeteria for me if you are stating in person classes in a week or so. Not like social distancing is going to help much when the kids come. If you are only doing virtual teaching... I'd pick classroom.

I'd pick classroom. yup. We didn't have the option as we go back in person tomorrow. Staff meetings were all last week and 90% of us wore out masks correctly even if we weren't completely socially distant.

I'd pick classroom. I should have added this! We are starting hybrid, so about ten kids in a room at a time.

I've been back to school for two weeks now. We've had a couple faculty meetings in the cafeteria and I felt comfortable. Everyone wears a mask, we are sitting with two empty seats between each person and we are all facing the same direction. We must wear a mask everywhere on campus. The only place you can take it off is if you are alone in your classroom. We began school all virtual last week and it's going ok. I for one, am very happy to be back in the building and feel comfortable.

I will be in the same situation in a couple of weeks ... I would be fine with being in the cafeteria with a mask ... you do what you can

Our super did the building meeting (instead of whole district meeting) in our smaller library. Our principal did our staff meeting in the cafeteria. We were nicely spaced there. Nothing was offered on zoom.
We are going back f2f, so neither were more crowded than my classroom will be. The classroom is my concern.

My opinion is I take every opportunity to avoid direct interaction with people. Fewer interactions means fewer opportunities to be infected.

I said in person because I love to see my fellow teachers after the summer break. It sounds like it will be safe.

I would take every chance to not be in a group I could take.

I did all but one meeting virtually from my classroom.
In the non virtual meeting, we were in the cafeteria (all 20 of my staff in a HUGE room) watching a zoom meeting.
I am teaching from an empty classroom and am not interested in coming in contact with anyone I don't have to!

I would attend from my classroom so I could see and hear better. In person meetings are usually just three dimensional memos anyway.
