Oh my, I am so excited to cut out more masks now. Someone on the Ravelry board I belong to suggested using an anti-skid cutting board for the pattern piece. So, I purchased some, and I cut out my pattern piece yesterday. This will solve several problems with my paper pattern. Such a GREAT idea that I thought I would pass on. 🙂

Great idea! Is it thick enough to guide your rotary cutter? I did this with some 120 card stock, but I still cut slivers off. So, I went back to lining up my Olfa ruler along the edge. When I use my Sweet Red Poppy pattern, I’ve been using a new pattern every 50 masks or so.

basket1lady, I was using cardstock before too and still had to use my Olfa ruler. I have not tried this yet as I just cut it out last night but I believe it will be fine to use on it's own. If not, it would be super easy to trace around quickly and cut many masks that way. I will update later when I give it a go.

Good idea!
I use IKEA placemats for things I cut out repeatedly:)

Ahh I need this! Where do I find one of these? I’ve been using chipboard and have shaky hands, so it’s all chopped up.

A woman in a small local fabric store recommended this to me and it was a game changer!!
Now I’m trying to cut out the masks using a rotary cutter!

I’m cutting one mask at a time (sometimes 2) by pining my copy paper pattern. Takes so long! I should totally make a harder pattern. I have gobs of vinyl binders that I’ve removed covers from.

Oh boy, if you had this and a rotary cutter, you would be a changed woman. And if you want to stop using pins, look at these. They are a game changer too. I quit using pins (for the most part) several years ago. I LOVE these!

Sewing ClipsI wasn't sure of the quality of the ones on Amazon and didn't want to get the Dritz ones and hate them.... I grabbed some of the .5" binder clips from school. They're AWESOME! LOL I DO have a rotary cutter. That sucker is SHARP! I've actually chunked up my quilting ruler with it!

Patter— We have the same rotary cutter. I love that thing. I could never use the kind where you have to squeeze down and cut at the same time.

I ended up cutting my ask patterns out of flexible cutting boards I had here at home, too. I kept cutting up my cardstock patterns too often. Patter, do you mind sharing your mask pattern again? I tried searching and couldn't find it. Thanks!

I have this set from Amazon and they are identical to the Clover Wonder Clips.

seaexplore, the clips I linked are identical to the Clover Clips. I bought the Clover ones first, and then kicked myself when I found these. I have used them for years, and I have not had one break yet.

Patter, did you use the rotary cutter to cut the pattern out of the cutting board? Does it handle something that rigid OK? Could you link the rotary cutter you use? I've been using pins with paper patterns too (and my good fabric scissors) for my masks, and it does take longer that way. I made a chipboard template for the pattern piece, but I don't like using it as much as I like good old pins and paper (more comfortable, I guess?), so I went back to that. A rotary cutter would probably change that and make things faster, so I've been thinking about getting one. I've been wanting one anyway, and this is just another reason. However, I don't want to have to go through a lot of crappy cutters before I find a good one, LOL.

Think Joanns/Michaels and coupons. Walmart sells them too. I think I bough a package of blades on Amazon long ago! The name on Patter 's Olfa and you know she went with style/color.. I think I have one that's teal and the other one is orange! They work!

With quilting my mother used sandpaper for her smaller pieces. With other projects I have used the plastic heavy duty report holders for patterns.

Great idea! What did you use to cut through the green cutting board? If it’s like the flexible cutting boards you can cut it easily with a scissors. I cut some of mine down because I wanted a half size version.
