I deleted the original post because I went to copy one of the links posted here to put on my FB page and accidentally posted a link to this thread. I immediately deleted but I hope I didn't lead anyone here. Not just because of this thread, but because this is my anonymous safe place to post.

It is your facebook feed. Delete the comments you don't want there.
ETA: Them being triggered is a somewhat good thing. They don't like having to face the reality of the situation and instead become defensive or name call. But maybe, just maybe, it makes one person think about it in a different light

Anyone with half a brain knows what you mean. I wouldn’t feel the need to respond.

Delete the stupid comment (if it makes you feel better) and pat yourself on the back for standing up for BLM. You are not ignorant.

You don't need to defend your position. Sometimes you need to remember that nothing you say is going to "change" their mind. I had someone tell me that when a color is added before the words ... LIVES MATTER is racist. You can't win. I just smile nod and scroll on by.

I just ignore negative comments. I've said what I want to say and it's not up for debate for me. You want to criticize it? Have fun, but I'm not playing. That being said, I don't do it to other people either. If someone posts something I disagree with, I just scroll on by. Or unfriend them. Depends on how heinous it is. If you really want, you can always just "fact slap" them with an article contradicting their point: www.tampabay.com/news/nation-world/2020/07/22/politifact-is-black-lives-matter-a-marxist-movement/

I don't feel right deleting it. A) That seems like censoring B) It's my 85 year old aunt who I have to say compared to much of my family has at least TRIED to have real conversations and seems to want to understand somewhat.
I may use Peabay's article. I don't know yet.

I hear ya. I live in a very redneck conservative area. I usually don't post much political stuff on FB, once in awhile I will. I will aslo post masking meme's and articles. I don't know WHY masks have become such a huge politics divide, but basically most republicans don't believe in them. So odd. My dh has a good friend, I am friends with also. I like him. He's fun, and usually a good person to be around, BUT he is very republican, and very anti masks. We have gone around and around on FB about things. I know we won't change each others minds, so I snoozed him. But then he tags me on stuff. I don't want to unfollow him. I honestly like him. I just don't like his politics. Same with my aunt, who I DID have to block with all her comments, and shaming. I don't know why this president and these issues have so divided us, as a country and people.

I would post: Black Lives Matter - is the bare minimum of things that can be said about black lives and people of color. The bare minimum. Black Lives Matter, means just that, black lives matter. All lives can't matter, until Black Lives Matter. I would also post this link from Billie Eilish's IG page. Maybe even just screen shot the 4 slides: http://instagram.com/p/CAzwncfFm7G

When people post things like that (which I’ve seen quite a bit lately) I usually just use the laughing emoji because I think it is ridiculous.
Otherwise I would do what Peabay said and post something factual that contradicts what they said. You could also ask “what makes you think that” if you want to have a discussion but in most situations I think that is pointless if someone is in a place mentally where they think blm is a terrorist group. But there may be some people who would learn something I guess.

I guess I’d ask if it really matters what the “official” BLM entity stands for? Most people who were out protesting likely didn’t even know there was an official Black Lives Matter entity, they were protesting injustice and for what those three words meant specifically to them - for Black Lives to Matter equally. That’s powerful, regardless.

I have commented to similar statements by saying that using the phrase "Black Lives Matter" doesn't mean you have to support that specific group. It means that our black friends and neighbors need our support. If you don't care for that particular group and want to donate, there are plenty of others.

I am sorry you are dealing with it. There is a point at which I honestly think people aren't acting in good faith, and you don't have to treat them like they are, however you decide to manage the situation.

I don't argue politics or religion. It just isn't worth it to try to talk sense to someone that doesn't have any!

It’s not so much the statement black lives matter that trigger people, it’s the organization and the majority of people can’t separate the two. Co-founder Patrisse Cullors have openly admitted that she and co-founder Alicia Garza are ‘trained marxists’. I think the organization is viewed as a move toward socialism, which most people oppose. I support the statement black lives matter, I don’t support the organization.

My mom, for example, has little idea who she is and would take the advice of anyone other than that white 18 y.o. singer with weird hair and nails that she saw at the Oscars making faces in the audience. On a serious note, what are Eilish’s experiences with BLM? Why should we listen to her above POC speaking out? I think that BLM’s message is a crucial one. I can’t imagine anyone over the age of 16 who would be influenced by Billie Eilish. Especially those who are reticent to begin with.

I do like that, but it made me chuckle because a lot of people I know DO use posts about one type of cancer to comment about another type. Happened to me once on here. Anyway, carry on! OP, it's really hard to engage with people politically on FB. Is there any chance you could have an in-person chat?

OP, it's really hard to engage with people politically on FB. Is there any chance you could have an in-person chat? It even happened here on my Cancer Warrior threads. At one point the “I hate that breast cancer research gets so much funding compared to XYZ cancer” posts were so numerous that I threatened to stop participating.
