Hayjaker, I'm so sorry to hear that you had to evacuate and I hope that your house was spared. Everyone, I hope you are all safe. The last time I checked, there were over 40 fires burning in Oregon alone, not to mention what is happening with our neighbors to the north and south.

I am well south of Portland in Douglas County, Oregon. Our whole little town was evacuated. I loaded up a few boxes of pictures, a couple of suitcases, some blankets and pillows and towels and drove away. This is surreal. And there is a very real possibility that my home will be lost. I am so sorry. I will keep you in my thoughts. Let me know if there is anything tangible I can do to help.

My MIL and FIL live in Salem and the air is bad. They are not in an Evacuation zone but it sounds terrible and smokey...my DH seems shook up. They are 74...tough and healthy but I just wish they would move back closer to their kids...they love hiking and nature. I hope things will get better soon. Somehow everything seems so intense this year. Not sure how much to worry.

It is awful outside abs supposed to get worse this weekend. I only hope that the wind shift helps with the fires. It literally smells like someone has a bonfire on our porch, advisories are saying pets need to limit their time outside as well.

I have several family members who lost their homes near Lincoln City. Three different houses.

No word on their homes. We have other family just waiting to hear if they need to evacuate and closely monitoring. It is just awful. The scrapbook retreat I went to every year near Eugene is completely gone. I feel so bad for the people that work there as it was both their employment and their home. Talent, Oregon near Ashland is apparently nearly completely gone. I heard they were evacuating parts of Clackamas and Coffee Creek Correctional. It is just devastating and heartbreaking to watch the news. I just cannot believe the horror that is this year.

I’m so sad for Oregon. Texting with my cousins and aunts in Bend and Portland. Air is barely breathable. I was supposed to head up next week but obviously that is on hold.

I hope everyone is safe!
My brother who lives outside of Oregon city has evacuated to his in-laws. My other brother lives in Portland and I don’t think they are in danger except for the air quality. But I could be wrong. It sounds like the air quality is horrible. Is it bad even inside? I don’t think they have ac so it is probably pretty miserable inside.

PDX is fire safe, but the air is terrible. They are saying pets shouldn’t be outside, in Vancouver the air is yellow and smoky. I don’t think it is terribly hot, but we switched our ac to recirculate. It is a little noticeable in the house, but not terrible. I hope your brother’s home is safe, the video footage is just horrific. Breaks my heart to see the devastation and entire towns wiped out. Glad they arrested the asshole the helped contribute to the fire near Medford, hope his penalties are stiff although they can’t possibly extract equal justice for what he has done.

This has been absolutely harrowing for so many people. I am so sorry for those who have had to evacuate and devastated for those who have lost homes and family members. I keep bursting into tears thinking of Wyatt Tofte, the 13 year old boy who tried to drive his grandmother out of the fire and was found with his 200 pound bull mastiff draped over him in the car. I went in to work yesterday (Portland), but the smoke was so bad inside the building that we were all wearing N95s inside. I lasted an hour and a half before I went home with a horrible headache. I spent the day making sure my go-bag, dog crate, etc. were ready and told myself it was a planning exercise. Honestly, if Portland itself ever had to evacuate, I don't know where we would go. The roads would be gridlocked. It's so surreal that our COO actually had to send an all-staff email telling staff in Level 2 evacuation areas to get off their Zoom calls and take care of themselves and their families! According to my firefighter relatives, it's not unusual for people to try to deal with stressful situations with denial and sticking to their routines, which can have tragic consequences. I really hope the forecasted rain shows up on Monday.

I’m home! I returned home late yesterday. We are used to wildfires around here but never has one treated our whole town the way this one has. It has taken many structures and so many people lost everything. Tonight I am so grateful for the efforts of private landowners working tirelessly in addition to pro firefighters from local agencies and USFS. Without the citizens defending our community a different story may be told.
So much devastation and loss throughout Oregon.

I am also heartbroken over the loss of life in the Santiam River Valley, and all of the destruction. This is the route we take to visit my parents in Salem from Bend. Little towns all along highway 22 are GONE.
We had horrible winds on Monday, and the air quality index has topped over 500 every day since Wednesday. I learned my lesson several years ago when we topped AQI of 400. I am glad I still have at least one N95 mask to use while I'm outdoors doing my daily farm chores. Otherwise my lungs would ache for hours. Thankfully it's down to 224 right now.

I am hoping the rain comes. The air is terrible here, still close to 500 last I heard. I went to go get groceries and my grocery store had to shut down because the smoke was so bad inside the store. We are safe from fire here, but the devastation is just heartbreaking. All those lovely little towns and homes and wildlife just gone. Which reminds me I need to go put out fresh water for wildlife.
