I'm an hour south of PDX but the smoke blew in this afternoon and the wind picked up this evening. Our back fence fell from the wind and apparently it's going to be windy for awhile. The power company has been talking about preemptively turning the power off so that if a line goes down it won't start a fire. We have been hot for days and a fire would just explode with this wind.
2020 man...where is my bingo card?

I’m in Portland, and the winds really picked up around 4:00. The sky is totally the wrong color and the air is so smoky.
I have asthma so we have closed up all the windows and have the air purifier running on high.

Our huge oak tree is dropping small branches on the roof which always stresses me out. I hope nothing big comes down.
I also have asthma, so I'm sealed inside with the AC on and hoping we don't lose power. I'm so glad I just picked up a new inhaler.
Hoping fervently for no stray sparks and fires!

The smoke is so bad tonight! Earlier this evening I popped out to take a walk around the neighborhood, but I turned around and came right back because it was to hard to breathe!
I grew up in Salem during the time of autumn field burning, and the peachy-orange sky reminds me of those days, but this smoke is acrid and makes my eyes burn!

Down here in Salem we are not getting a lot of wind, but it certainly was enough to get the smoke and haze to come hang out.

Just north, wind was freaking the cats out although it has calmed down considerably. My husband caught my Halloween wreath that was skittering down the street! Very smoky, even with all windows and doors shut you can still smell it.

I'm in far east county and it's been a little scary out this way tonight. Trees down on a couple of houses, roads covered in downed trees and limbs, blowing transformers, and lots of power outages. Thank goodness no fires have been reported so far though. The smoke has been awful. For those of us in this area it's very reminiscent of the Eagle Creek wildfire in Sept. of 2017 when so many in my community had to evacuate.

I’m probably close to you, Fiddlesticks. If so, we’re supposedly in the “hot spot” for the most dangerous conditions. Lots of wind here, power out from a transformer explosion earlier (now back on). The smoke came in fast and strong earlier. Windows are closed up and the air is on. Hopefully no one does anything stupid to set off sparks.

I’m right on the west edge of Portland (literally two blocks from the border....)
The air quality is soooo so bad tonight. I just drove my daughter home after work, less than five minutes up the road, and my lungs were burning by the time we got there.
Roads are messy. Lots of tree debris to dodge. Thinking I won’t drive my little sporty car tomorrow. SUV seems safer.....

Man, the wind was crazy last night. One of my cats was very restless and between him and the wind howling and imagining the neighbor’s giant tree squashing my house I barely slept. I feel so awful for all the nature and critters during this time. Air seems better today, man, I hate that this is becoming a yearly occurrence.. I don’t remember this happening so much 10 years ago,

We drove from Hillsboro to Newberg last night for dinner. It was CRAZY. The wind started so suddenly, while we were driving. When we were going over the hills, we had to stop and pull huge branches/small trees out of the road three times to get through. And the smoke appeared from nowhere. We'd been up in the hills earlier in the day and it was totally clear - could see Mts Hood, St Helens, and Adams. We couldn't even see the Chehalem Valley by 5:30. Just nuts. We stuck to 99 on our way home and saw lots of power outages, debris in the the roads, etc.
We'd reserved an outdoor table for dinner, but they closed the outdoor dining due to smoke, so we ate inside. We could barely see the trees the were at the edge of the property, the smoke was so thick.

I'm in Albany, I couldn't believe the sky this morning! And ash everywhere! I'm working from home but I have a couple of people working at our facility in Corvallis and they are asking to go home because the air quality is so bad.

I can't bring myself to "like" your posts but if I do, it means, of course, that I care and I "see you/ hear you" and am concerned for your safety. I hate living with year round wildfire risk now... and with so much of Cali on fire... and me so sensitive to smoke, I really don't know where I'd try to evacuate TO. Stay safe, and please keep us updated on how you're doing!

I'm north of Seattle and woke up at midnight, thinking there was a campfire burning in our bedroom. We've had our share of yellowy skies during fires, but never the smell like it is right now. It's better this afternoon, but I can still smell smoke.

Just north of Portland the skies were blue all day, while my Facebook is full of red sky and people talking about evacuating and ash everywhere because my hometown on Oregon is about 15 miles from one of the huge fires Also another place I lived (in Southern Oregon) is also on evacuation watch... It's scary.

It was clear most of the day today - but still very windy - but about an hour ago, the smoke from the Detroit area fires started rolling in. It looks like dusk now.
Trees and power lines down all over. TV Highway not far from us is closed for about a mile due to downed trees (and I suspect power lines too, but not sure on that). Smaller fires and lots of road closures.

Who knows what could happen. 😩

We just came back from the Beaver Creek area, about 12 miles east of I205 trying to help a friend clear some of the animals from her property.
At 7pm, it was PITCH BLACK and ash was falling like snow. It was honestly scary driving into it. They’re all of 2-3 miles from the red zone (llevel two “be ready” evacuation level where they are).
Our own home is nowhere near any danger areas, but a few of DHs friends have likely lost their homes. It’s heart breaking.

I am well south of Portland in Douglas County, Oregon. Our whole little town was evacuated. I loaded up a few boxes of pictures, a couple of suitcases, some blankets and pillows and towels and drove away. This is surreal. And there is a very real possibility that my home will be lost.

One of my brothers lives in Portland and the other lives outside of Oregon City. One was posting about camping this weekend and then Monday night posted a pic of them all sleeping in the living room In case they need to evacuate. I haven’t seen any posts since that. So scary that these fires seem to get worse every year.

Our oldest DD lives in Wilsonville (about 15 miles SW of Portland) and she's been sending me photos of the sky all day. On the day the pool and playgrounds in her neighborhood were to finally open... and now this. She's a SAHM with 3 kids (7, 5, 5mos) - she had a couple of very disappointed kids today. 2020 sucks. Stay safe everyone.

It’s the light of day and we are hopeful. Neighbors with battery-operated ring systems can still check in and see their house!
