So I want to hang out with the peas a little later, so started putting together a couple of page kits to use with the SKETCHtember challenges I have not yet done, and the photos I want to scrap next, of kids going back to school. I have been using a couple of collections that aparently escaped captivity early last winter, but I thought it was time to open up the FALL and SCHOOL bins.
AussieMeg's challenge was to use "fall colours" and something "scattered, like leaves". Sooo... I hauled down my huge Iris tub of all things FALL. And opening it, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning! So many pretty papers, and fun embellishments. It's not that I didn't know I had stored autumn themed scrappy supplies--it's that I had forgotten about exactly WHAT supplies were in that tub, AND how much I love them...
The SCHOOL bin yielded both traditional and newer school supplies, but also alphabets and apples and backpacks I can stuff with school supplies for a fun embellishment.
Sorry, Marie Kondo. But my hoard continues to SPARK JOY for me. When I stored this stuff away, I was tired of it maybe. Had no immediate use for it then as I started crafting Christmas cards. But although not joyful, I loved it enough to tuck it away. And now it makes me happy all over again, just like when i first saw it in a store...

You know what I found in my Fall bin last year? My Kindle. I think I hurried and set in there because I didn't have a case for it at the time and I didn't want it to be destroyed by my son.

My scrap supplies spark joy too. I have a hard time culling and donating. I like to just rummage thru the papers. Sigh. Look I don't get into expensive purses or shoes let me have my paper to feel 7 smell

You know what I found in my stash this summer? My wedding rings, missing for more than 10 years.

I can't believe what you're all finding in your stashes - A Kindle? Wedding rings? What a lovely surprise for you grammadee to find all those lovely products. You must be pretty much caught up with your scrapping if you actually box up your products based on season. On any given day I could be scrapping summer or winter, Christmas or Easter..... Even when I used to paper scrap I never stored stuff away. Hmmmm, maybe I just didn't have as much stuff as you!

Yeah, it is an Iris case--but a larger, deeper, one than most: about 13 x 14 I think, and about 5" deep. It has not only the papers and accessories not used in past years, but also scraps of papers, even some I coloured myself with spritzes and inks and stamps. Lots of stickers, too, even a 3-D layered one I got to use today.

Well, speaking as a person closer to the minimalist end of the spectrum, if it makes you happy, that's awesome! Keep it all! That's what the overused "sparks joy" thing is all about. Keep the things that you love and use, ditch the stuff that makes you feel bad.
If looking at the boxes of stuff makes you panic, feel bad about overspending, feel pressured to create when you're not in the mood, dread having to sort through to find anything, or any other horrible emotion, that's the stuff that's better off gone. If you never feel like you have any good paper because all the ugly stuff is hiding the good stuff, that's an argument for decluttering. Kind of like the "I don't have anything to wear" complaint.
Looking at your stash would give me very different emotional reaction because it's not the right amount for me. But if you feel good and you love it, keep it all and ENJOY IT!

I enjoy going through my stash too, but simply don't have the time. I need to MAKE the time!
I just bought a new Kallax to store all the stash that I can't fit on the three I have already LOL. I hope it'll be fun when I start going through stuff to fill the cubes.

I’ll be mindful of that as I unpack all of my supplies that I stored while I was selling my house. I’d like to get rid of about half, but which half? That’s the hard part.

I look at my stash and think "would I buy this today?" If it's old and I haven't used it, and I would not pay money for it, it goes in the donate box. I also take a look at the B side of themed papers and sometimes move the paper from Halloween, for example, to my orange cardstock.

I bought some things that I look at now and think 'what was I thinking?!?' It was trendy at the time, or I had an idea for it that I've long since forgotten about. Or it was for a project I've since abandoned. But other things, no matter what the age, I still look at and think "I could easily use that for a page I made today..." and those things stay. Making Memories, Rusty Pickle, Chatterbox, etc. I love looking thru my stash and re-discovering those things, sometimes almost as much as I like creating! (right now I'd settle for finding my red CM cutting blade in its holder. But I think the CAT misplaced that, not me... so fat chance of me finding it.)
