Oh this thread is causing me to have IKEA flashbacks of the last time I was there. We were trying to buy a bed and desk for DS and we got 3/4 of what we needed. We just needed the desk top and then we were done. They were out of stock but we were assured the next shipment planned for Tuesday would have a pile of them. I checked on line, and yes they had 10 in stock. I immediately went to the store, and yes they had received a shipment however it was really supposed to have been delivered to St Louis, not KC, so they refused to sell the items. I'm not proud but I lost my sh!t !!! I was so so so angry over this stupid desktop. I was mad that the item I needed was right behind the swinging door and they refused to sell it. They did offer to allow me to purchase the floor model, which of course I agreed to but then the manager changed her mind and wouldn't let me buy it. We ended up returning every single thing we purchased there, including lamps, light bulbs, etc. and ordered equally priced and quality items from Amazon. I love the items they sell but I still get angry when I think about that experience. I was a real 'karen' and feel bad about it. Maybe someday I'll go back.

Too bad about you not being able to find desks. Who could have imagined that would be an essential pandemic item?
I ventured out to IKEA on Saturday also. Haven’t been there for at least a year. I’m moving and wanted to check out some things for my new place. It was not a good experience — long lines, lots of people inside, crummy looking furniture. The things I wanted to see in person were really disappointing. I remembered why I dislike IKEA, and decided I will look elsewhere.

Why not do pickup?

Cannot get pickup at either IKEAs near me. There are never any slots available for the one in College Park and the one in Woodbridge doesn’t even show up on the drop down menu as a possibility for pickup. And even if I could get pickup, no desks were available. And interestingly, when I checked when I got home, the sawhorse legs I did buy for the one table top I found were shown as unavailable, even though there were plenty at the IKEA in Woodbridge. Same with the Skadis cups. I don’t have faith that their inventory online matches what is actually in the store. And, up thread someone mentioned that half of her pickup order wasn’t pulled for her, so she had to go in anyhow.

I tried to go to Ikea once since this started, got there at opening, saw the packed crowded line, and have not been back.

I tried to go to Ikea once since this started, got there at opening, saw the packed crowded line, and have not been back. Weekends and opening are the worst time. 30min after opening the line will probably be completely gone. If you head to exactly what you need vs following the arrows and browsing there probably won't be a line for the registers either.

I don't know if it varies by location, but so far, I've been unable to get a pickup order (I have heard they release slots but have not had time to try to figure out when the slots get released). At some point I'll have a day off mid-week and will try again then.

You have to wait for the inventory to reset. I am Mountain time, so at 11:00 pm the time slots opened up for pickup within the next day or two. Good luck. I was able to get two beds, mattresses and a desk.

I ordered from Ikea on their website in June and it was a nightmare. Items didn't come and it was ridiculous trying to get them by phone or email. They limited the phones to where you couldn't get through without a busy signal or just hang up and the email was only available to cancel an order. I even tried their social media. I ended up disputing the charge on my credit card. I had to do the same thing! I thought I was being safer by getting delivery. I went thru so many call transfers then it just said "no one can take your call" and hung up. I had 2 separate orders to get cheaper shipping on different days. Then I read about orders not showing up and no customer service, so I cancelled the orders. My one dispute is still messed up because the credit card company thought one of the return orders was a partial refund. I never go there on weekends. I went one evening after work, it was busy, but no lines like that. I checked the stock online before I went.. I think you can do this by selecting your store by the item, not by putting it in your cart. I read unless it is green/in stock then there is no guarantee it will be there. I wanted an item that came in more than 1 color. The first choice said "limited stock/yellow" and the second choice said "in stock/green". When I went to bin, there was 1 item left in the second choice color, absolutely no other items! Needless to say I picked that one. I had my items picked and bin numbers recorded in my phone, so I just went straight to where I needed to pick it up. I was only there 15 minutes. I guess people are still going and purchasing even with poor customer service, kind of a shame.
