"Attorney General Josh Shapiro today announced a settlement imposing injunctive relief and a monetary payment of $110,000.00 against California-based clothing company, LuLaRoe, LLC and LulaRoe, Inc. This legal action is the result of numerous complaints from Pennsylvanians owed overdue refunds for returned merchandise. “LuLaRoe misled and let down working people who were trying to start a business, or earn a little extra money, and we’re holding them accountable,” said Attorney General Josh Shapiro. ”LuLaRoe’s practices helped them make money, while forcing everyday people to risk savings and livelihoods. By withholding refunds, sometimes for more than a year, LuLaRoe broke the promise they made to Pennsylvanians and we’re stepping in to put an end to it.” LuLaRoe sold clothing to consumers nationwide through independent sales consultants, including more than 6,700 Pennsylvanians, who were lured into starting a business supplied by LuLaRoe with the promise of a no-risk opportunity. These Pennsylvanians spent thousands of dollars to buy the clothing that LulaRoe required so these consultants could start their business. “I invested a lot of money in this business and didn’t get back what I put in,” said Lesley Black, a former LulaRoe consultant. “Because they were so backlogged with consultants leaving, my paperwork to receive my refund wasn’t reviewed for several weeks, if not months, after I left the business. LulaRoe didn’t keep their promise to consultants, and didn’t care if we left, stayed, or even threatened to sue.” Instead, the company lacked the operational capacity or otherwise failed to process refund claims. Consultants spoke of unreasonable delays, at times more than a year, for LulaRoe to process their requests even when a refund was admittedly owed. Such a delay was not disclosed prior to entering into their consultant contract and was not expected with LulaRoe’s marketing their services as starting a risk-free business." www.attorneygeneral.gov/taking-action/press-releases/ag-shapiro-lularoe-will-honor-its-refund-policy/I haven't seen or heard about Lularoe for a while now. This story was in my news feed, but I wonder what their revenues are these days compared to the heyday of a few years ago where they were at every farmer's market, craft fair, pop-up store location, etc. I'm glad the AG went after them to get them to process refunds in a timely manner and in keeping w/their promises.

I haven't seen or heard about Lularoe for a while now. Our thrift shops are full of Lularoe. I will not buy it because I feel like it screams out what it is, basically shapeless stretchy and often poorly manufactured clothes. When I see it for sale on line it is always someone trying to get rid of their stock for pennies on the dollar. Very sad demise for the consultants.

Wow... I think LLR got away "cheap" only having to pay $110K. Of course, that's just one lawsuit... I predict a few more coming down the pike.

Wow! The testimony of the founder and her husband was ridiculous. Claiming to be clueless about everything. Maybe it was here I read it?

Wow! The testimony of the founder and her husband was ridiculous. Claiming to be clueless about everything. Maybe it was here I read it? I think maybe the WA AG case. It's the stupidest set of answers in a deposition I've read in a while: www.truthinadvertising.org/court-unseals-revealing-docs-in-lularoe-pyramid-case/e.g. to Deann Q: Have you ever posted bonus checks to social media? A: You asked that question before. No. * * * Q: And are those bonus checks that are in front of you [in the photo]? A: I don’t know.* * * Q: In the message that you wrote, you wrote “Woot woot yahoo. Look at what I get to do now? ? Yesssss I’m signing big BONUS CHECKS!” Does that indicate that the checks you are signing in this photo are bonus checks? A: Yes. To Mark: Q: What … is an Income Disclosure Statement? * * * THE WITNESS [Stidham]: It’s a — I’m not sure. That’s a broad question. * * * Q: Do you recognize this, Mr. Stidham? A: Yes. Q: And is it LuLaRoe’s 2016 Income Disclosure Statement? A: Yes. Q: And who prepared this? * * * THE WITNESS [Stidham]: I don’t know. Q: Were these prepared in any other years other than 2016? A: I also don’t know. Q: Do you know where the data came from that was used to create this? * * * THE WITNESS [Stidham]: Specifically, no. Q: And do you know when — so this was — we pulled this from your website — from LuLaRoe’s website. Do you know when it was available on LuLaRoe’s website? A: No, I do not. Don't seem to know a lot about their company these two scammers.

What a shit company.
I do still like to occasionally check the sold listings on ebay to see which leggings prints are selling super high. You know, the "unicorns."

Ugh. I really feel for the women who sold that stuff and ended up stuck with thousands of dollars worth of merch.

I know a woman that still sells this junk. She quit her banking job, the only job she's had since high school...in the 80s. She totally remodeled her gorgeous, finished basement into a Lularoe boutique. I hate to think how much money she has put into this.

I don't wear them when I do have to go out in public. I only have one pair of Lularoe...the stitching around the waist tore the first time I wore them. I got them as a gift from a friend who bought them from another friend to help her out. Oy.

I was recently invited to a zyia online party and I ended up ordering two pair of running tights. I liked the fun patterns and I figured I would give them a try. I really like them. They were pricey but it seems like everywhere I look for running tights I have nothing to choose from except black. Maybe the occasional navy. And I am much more inclined to work out if I have fun clothes. I know that might sound silly or shallow but it's true. And I've washed them several times now and I have absolutely nothing but good to say about them.

It's just that I keep getting those hosting party requests and then to be a seller of it!

It's just that I keep getting those hosting party requests and then to be a seller of it! I admit that I'm not one to host parties. I hate the uncomfortable position it puts my friends in. But I go to them. And I buy something if the product seems like it is something that will add to my life. I don't like high pressure sales pitches. I don't like using my friends for profit. I don't like being constantly spammed by email or Facebook from consultants. But I'm not a boycotter. I have bought Lularoe in the past. I still have a couple of pairs of their leggings in my closet. I don't like the dirty way they did their consultants at the end so I would never purchase again. But ultimately I believe in free will. And people sign up to be consultants knowing what they are getting into. So I feel no guilt buying from Zyia, or Pampered Chef, or Close to my Heart. Those are three I do buy from. And after my experience with Zyia I would totally buy more running tights from them. I haven't heard anything from that consultant either since I bought them. So my impression of that company and that consultant is favorable.

I understand how someone really young or desperate for cash can get sucked in - but wow! I wish they would teach kids in High School some basic facts of life, including learning about these MLM schemes! I see so many of my kids' friends "starting their business" selling mascara, lipstick, diet crap... the list goes on. I know they have invested a lot of money they really can't afford to spend on this, thinking they are going to be able to afford to live on it. But I don't know who would be brave enough to teach it, without risking offending all the teachers or their spouses that sell crap as a side hustle. I don't know if it is a small town thing, or what. But it seems like everyone has a side hustle with the MLM crap.

I worked with someone once who became involved w/ an MLM. In fact, most of her family did.
She poured time and money into the MLM. Her son and daughter in law actually relocated to another company to recruit new people into the MLM.
My co-worker quickly advanced through the ranks, but once she got close to the upper echelons where the real money was made, she found it nearly impossible to break through. One of the other directors (or whatever they called them) actually suggested that she take off work, go to the mall, and pretend that she was looking for an expensive purse. If the salesperson was good, my secretary was to try and convince them to join the MLM. I told my co-worker that I thought that scheme was ridiculous. I told her I couldn't believe she would actually consider taking time off from her real job to covertly recruit people to join an MLM.
Eventually, my secretary and her entire family became disillusioned and left the MLM. They were all so close to that upper echelon, but no matter how much time and money they invested in the pursuit, they could never break through. I'm sure their family made lots of money for those who were in that top tier.
