So, those of you who followed my breast cancer journey heard/read my pages long posts about the Navy reservist plastic surgeon who I was saddled with for the breast reconstruction at the time of my mastectomy. He was a complete ass that disregarded my wishes, made blatantly sexist comments (including going into detail of how women in Texas always wanted large implants, while those of us on the East Coast thought we wanted to be smaller), and, in the end screwed things up so badly that I had to have two more 5 hour long reconstruction surgeries to fix what he did. Even my husband- who I had started to bring to appointments- was offended by him. The second plastic surgeon they gave me to, after Dr. Wallace was sent back to Texas, refused to reprimand him for any of his inappropriate comments because Dr. Wallace outranked him. Gotta love military medicine. Anyhow, Dh just asked me, “wasn’t the doctor who screwed up your reconstruction Dr. Wallace from Texas?” He then showed me the following story in which Dr. Wallace makes an anti-Semitic comment in the new Borat movie and responds when the actress asks if he’d want to have sex with her with “if your father wasn’t here.” Dh is shaking angry. He filed one formal complaint at the time at Walter Reed, of which nothing was done since they sent Dr. Wallace back to Texas. And I spent a year in therapy dealing with my anger at the whole ordeal and still hate the breasts I’ve been left with. I’ve said here before and still say that given what happened to me, I would have chosen to just go flat without reconstruction. And it ends up that he really is the creepy dick that I found him to be. And yes, it was in my file that I’m Jewish, so I’ll always wonder if that was part of it. taskandpurpose.com/news/borat-2-navy-reservist-anti-semitic-remarks

Wow - that's horrible. Having watched the movie (which I do not recommend), I don't think the article exaggerated at all. It was definitely one of the WTF parts of the movie where you can't actually believe someone said that out loud.

He must be completely awful if he got pinged to be in a Borat movie. Makes you wonder what else he did to get to this point.
So sorry you had to endure all of that. 😟

What a terrible way to relive something that affected you so badly the first time around. I'm sorry.
Perhaps the justice in it will come now from the widespread negative backlash he'll get.

The way you were treated is reprehensible. It must feel like a further violation to learn that this jerk with a medical degree is also an anti-semite. I'm sorry, elaine. Do you think the Borat appearance will have a negative impact on his military career?

It was definitely one of the WTF parts of the movie where you can't actually believe someone said that out loud. Darcy, he said a variety of just awful things out loud, which is why I had to start bringing my husband with me. And, at Walter Reed, I wasn’t given a choice of doctors, so couldn’t just say “I don’t feel comfortable with Dr. Wallace, give me someone else.” He was brought in as a reservist, because they only had one other plastic surgeon there at the time, and with all the wounded warriors coming through, breast reconstruction - understandably - wasn’t a priority. He was a terrible doctor and not any better of a person. He violated the patient-doctor trust and did what HE wanted to my body in terms of my reconstruction and not what I wanted or asked for (which was well documented in both the cancer center and my plastic surgery file).

Do you think the Borat appearance will have a negative impact on his military career? As a reservist, I doubt it will have any impact unfortunately. The Navy isn’t his bread and butter. He has already written about the movie appearance on Facebook, joking about it, and one of his FB friends commented that she hoped he’d get more business from it. 🤬

What a fucking douche nozzle! I can only imagine how upsetting that process had to have been and then to have that dicktard on top of it. I wouldn’t have contained my anger easily.

Of course, knowing that this abhorrent quack is in a movie just re-triggers the stuff that you had to endure. Your feelings are completely justified. Do you have enough proof that he practiced below the standard of care? I don't know the military process for the board of review. I'm really sorry that you had to deal w/this awful doctor. The doctor that was responsible for my mother's death is practicing to this day. He has one hand slap for a prescription offense. The medical board took him to task when we filed our complaint, but he was reviewed by his peers in a tight knit community. No way were they going to revoke his license despite removing half of a melanoma tumor w/o clear margins, in his office with lidocaine, throwing it away in the trash in front of her and leaving the rest inside where it quickly spread everywhere. He did this to other patients. Then he blamed my father for being cheap. Why is he still practicing medicine? You must feel very invalidated. I'm sorry, Elaine. Sometimes the bad guys win.
What do you call a doctor who got D's in med school? ? UGH!

Elaine, it’s horrible you were violated in such a way. It must have been shocking to see him publicly exposed like that — hopefully this brings you some validation, and possibly a bit of liberation too. Maybe he’ll have to face his reprehensible actions now.

What do you call a doctor who got D's in med school?? UGH! A bad doctor! Even though I specifically brought up standard of care, and that I knew that he didn’t practice it, I got nowhere at Walter Reed. All the docs and residents in plastic surgery are military, and while my oncology breast surgeon and a number of staff at the Breast Cancer Center are civilian, they have to maintain good relationships with the small plastic surgery department, so I don’t think anything would happen there either. The military docs already basically told me that they wouldn’t support any sanction. It truly was/is an old boys club. The surgeon I finally ended up with has become the dedicated plastic surgeon for the Breast Center and he is a good doctor and surgeon, but some of what Dr. Wallace did couldn’t really be easily fixed. And I don’t think that, at my age, the military would okay pulling it all out and starting again. I’m left raging all over again.

elaine.... your feelings are more than justified! And I'm so very sorry. I wonder if it would help you to calm down (for your health) if you thought of it as being upset is just allowing him to hurt you even more.

I’m so sorry you had to deal with such an awful doctor.
Is this the doc in the movie who told borat he could improve his daughter’s tits? I don’t know what everyone thinks of the borat movies. I find them so sad. Dh laughed through it. I admit I chuckled during the debutant ball.

Thank you. ❤️ I’m having a stiff drink and it will subside with some more time. Although I may try to schedule an appointment with my therapist again.
