Bottom line: how I wish they had come out with this ages ago!!
Long version :
We are still in our two week trial period and have made 3 medium sized orders, each time testing a different thing to see how well it arrived.
Frozen food was still quite frozen, cold stuff cold, and today's test was deli meat and bread. I ordered a half pound and got just barely over, probably half a slice (.525) at the store many times they will over slice by as much as a quarter pound and expect you to be fine with it, which depending on how cranky I am I take the extra or refuse.
The bread. THE BREAD! It arrived lovely and unsquished, which is something even I have trouble accomplishing; no matter how careful I am it gets smooshed somewhere between the store and my counter.
So normally I would have had to go to Walmart today. I would have spent at least 30 minutes putting a list together, even with the running list we try to keep. Then showering and trying to find jeans that fit (HA!).
Then I would have had to get out in the cold and damp and drive to the store, walk in from east BFE where I parked, sanitize a cart and then push said cart all over the store from one end to the other getting things on my list, backtracking because I remembered something we needed that wasn't on the list, all while avoiding the People of Walmart.
When I would finally be ready to check out I would have to wait in a line because they only ever have 3 or 4 lanes open (one of. Our local stores did a renovation and took out all but 8 regular registers and a out 3/4 of the front is all self check, and they usually only have 3 of the regular registers open).
So the wear and tear on my back from having to take everything out of the cart to load onto the belt, then lift the bags back into the cart then lift them into the car before carrying them into the house is pretty significant.
All told, that trip to Walmart (there, shop, back, unload, put away) would have taken me a good two hours at a minimum, more depending on the length of my list. And then I would have to spend an hour or so just resting my back/shoulders from the strain.
So with Walmart+ DH and I have been adding things to the list on our phones all week as we think of things /plan meals etc. Yesterday afternoon DH checked with me to make sure that I was done and then he set the delivery time for today between 9 and 10am.
Got an alert at 9:05 that they were on their way and would be there in 10 minutes. At 9:13 the doorbell rang and I opened the door and my entire order was sitting there on the porch right next to the kitchen door. Had to carry the bags all of three or four steps. Everything was unloaded and put away by 9:25.
As I said, wish they had offered this sooner.
Yes, it costs a little over $12 per month, but it is worth so much more than that! Not only saving lots of time, but physical energy, and even with he monthly cost +tip we are saving money by not making all the random "oh this looks good!" or "oh I didn't know I needed this, but sure" purchases, not to mention staying out of the clearance aisle.
I know so many people hate Wal-Mart, but we go there for the lower prices on toiletries, pet food, pantry staples etc. This service also keeps people employed, while they may get away with employing fewer checkers, they have to have people to shop, bag, and deliver my order.
So if you want to save time, energy and money, I would highly recommend checking to see if it is available in your area.
