So, Instagram turned off the ability to search for recent posts by hashtags because they are worried about misinformation being spread about the upcoming election. ALL hashtags! Even “innocent” ones like “scrapbooking”. I think that is ridiculous! Is it Nov 4th yet?

Yes, it is ridiculous. Instagram, owned by Facebook, hasn't done the work over the last 4 years to deal with the true problem so they are patching things together with blanket solutions. They are acting like our current administration.

Meanwhile, Facebook was complicit in disinformation campaigns that impacted the 2016 election and led us to this day.
But sure, ban hashtag searches. Stupid.

I did a search and found some posts. I wonder why recent ones were turned off? I mean, the political season has been happening for a bit now. What is their line of cutoff?

I was wondering why I couldn't search yesterday. I guess this is better than what happened in 2016.

You can search for hashtags and older posts will come up. They turned off showing the “recent” section in the results. Not great either, but let’s look at what was actually done.

It appears to work for me! So maybe just Americans are blocked from seeing recent hash tags.

I follow a couple of hashtags on a daily basis. The posts I see now are the ones that are usually in the “top posts” section, not the “recent” section. I don’t see any posts newer than 1 day ago, and there are always new posts daily for those hashtags. I saw on Twitter that people who sell things or are influencers are upset because their traffic is way down.

I'm okay with it, but it seems a bit late to make a difference.

One week before the US election is what they announced for their "general" measures. I assume they might've noticed people were jumping on hashtags as an attempt to use a loophole so they went ahead and deactivated the recent search history for US users.
