Is the soup already made, with the rice in it? I think you will be ok.
I wash rice out of habit, but I know many do not. One thing about washing rice, it makes the rice less likely to clump together.

I like sticky rice and have never washed rice in my life. I would think it would unstick in the soup if that is what you are worried about.

I wash almost all rice. The only ones I don't wash are parboiled and wild. That said, I wouldn't have a problem eating your soup.

Toss the soup? Why? There should be plenty of liquid to keep the rice from clumping. If not, add more broth/milk/cream. Live on the wild side!

I never wash rice. Is it because of arsenic? I always cook rice like pasta in lots of water and never use the absorption method - obviously not relevant if adding to soup.

I not only wash my rice, I soak it for at least an hour, and overnight if I can. But I only do that with basmati rice, because it makes it unbelievably light and fluffy, with grains that separate beautifully. I use basmati 90% of the time. If I’m using Thai sticky rice or arborio, I don’t wash or soak it.
I wouldn’t throw away your soup; the rice will be fine. 😊

Another that has never heard of washing rice - you cook it in water, why would it need to be washed first? I too use basmati around 90% of the time because it always comes out light, fluffy, and flavourful (I use an absorption cooking method).

Another that has never heard of washing rice - you cook it in water, why would it need to be washed first? And can have significant levels of arsenic. I’ve already had cancer, I don’t need to increase my chances for more. That said, I wouldn’t toss a vat of soup because of forgetting to wash my rice. The amount of rice per serving is fairly small.

Well good gracious, how did I get to be this age, and had never heard about arsenic in rice? And what’s more, I see that cooking by the absorption method is about the worst way of doing so. Just as well that we eat very little rice these days because DH has to eat low-carb for medical reasons, though I do have it for lunch sometimes while he is at work. Guess I will be washing it, and cooking it in lots of water now.....

We used to wash our rice when I was a teenager and responsible for cooking most meals. Our rice needed it as it was dirty some times it even had bits of leaves or twigs in it. But then when I cam to the States and found the rice was cleaner and was "polished" plus had added vitamins I quit washing it.

I have never heard of rinsing rice and so have never done it. However I might try it if it makes it fluffier. I have trouble making good rice.

My friend who is a retired health and safety director at a local university researched this arsenic-in-rice thing for me after my son got all worked up about it. She came back with instructions to use California-grown, organic, white basmati rice and we’d be fine. So that’s what I do. (Sorry, no link, but it’s somewhere on my Facebook timeline from a few years ago. HA HA) That said, I do rinse the rice when it’s going in the rice cooker, because that’s what the instructions say. But I think it’s to remove excess starch, not arsenic. I would never, ever in a million years consider tossing out a pot of soup because the rice (any kind) didn’t get rinsed.

I rinse rice because we eat it a lot and it does contain traces of arsenic. If I forgot once I wouldn’t worry.

Keep in mind I was a Japanese tsuma (old lady) and in Canada I never ever wash rice and I have no extra stickiness or anything. I did in Japan but not here. Ever.

I only rinse before cooking when the package instructions say to do that. I never knew about the arsenic but, having read about it, it’s not a big concern for me. We don’t eat rice all that often. I imagine that almost everything we do and eat is bad for us and yet many people are now living to over 100. Meh.
