Here in mostly democratic San Francisco. we have over 500 polling places (city is 7 miles by 7 miles).. or one polling place for every 1500 voters. and 50% voted before today..
never have seen a line. hgh school students are usually encouraged to work as poll workers. (not in charge.. but there).
we have in person voting for at least 3 weeks.. lots of drop off places. outdoor in person voting. it is easy peasy here.. and you can register at the dmv or online or on election day. mail in ballots are counted for days after the polls close.
anyway ..a report from the terrible san francsico...we get to vote on about 15 state propositions and about 15 city ones.. (i'm not looking it up.. just a guess).. and rank choice voting.

I’m with you. Voting is easy out here in the outer reaches of the Bay Area, too (and I’m in the most conservative Bay Area county, but we still vote blue overall). I will never understand why some states choose to make it difficult for people to vote. Even some peas think like that ... I remember a few saying people should be willing to work for it (wait in line, take time off work, etc.). I do wish we didn’t always have to vote on all those stupid initiatives, though!

I wish we had anything close to that. I live in central Indiana. Our county commissioners (in the county in which I live) consolidated districts and then failed to pass a resolution to buy more voting machines. Lines for early voting were long. DH waited 1 1/2 hours three weeks ago. I went yesterday morning and waited two hours. There were elderly people, people with disabilities that needed to sit and couldn't, and one lady with two small children. I felt so bad for them. Luckily it was reasonably nice outside.
There were only four machines at my polling place and at least 200 in line at during the time I was there. They ran out of ballots for a certain district and those poor people had to wait until more were delivered from the clerk's office. At some polling places people waited up to five hours to vote. People had to leave without voting due to family or work commitments. And then then Indiana was declared for Trump even before a lot of these people even voted!
A lot of people are very unhappy with our county commissioners. I don't know what they were thinking but I reasonably sure they will lose their reelection bid in two years. Some people are screaming voter suppression. I think it was just plain incompetence.

My town has 25K, and I think 19K registered voters. We have 3 polling places. I've never had to wait.
It's reprehensible that people have to wait hours to vote in other places. It's simply voter suppression.

I don't love all the propositions and such either.. and then I have to discuss my vote with my adult kids.. I pay more attention than they do.. and so though they may make other choices, they want to hear what I think.

They actually had an early voting location in my county this year. It's a huge area, but not a big population. Mail in voting is an easy option too.

I’ve never had an issue voting. The longest I’ve ever waited was when I was19 & my father insisted on going before the polling place opened so we could be first because he had to go to work. ( we still weren’t 1st either ) that was 1/2 hour and literally 5 minutes after they opened I voted because the poll workers check us all in but we couldn’t go to the machine until they ‘opened’ officially ( that was NY state btw )
I see the lines for voting in the news and I scratch my head as to why these places can’t provide adequate facilities. It’s not that hard it’s really not.
However, as for the future of voting - I didn’t mind the paper ballot/ballot box as much as I thought I would. (I did not trust the mail this year ) I did slightly miss voting in the machine but not as much as I thought, I thought voting early was worth it.
I’d love ranked voting i definitely think that needs to happen ( but I don’t think it ever will nationally - you know who would block it )
